csp-311 Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 A bit behind the conversation, but instead of making a solid metal fuel line, what about this?; A fuel rail designed for triples, a repro of the Sports Option one for the S30. I have one on my triple set-up. Love the work and the project, keep it up Quote
Wags Posted July 2, 2021 Author Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) Some more photos from Locky. The dash was put in to turn the engine over. It comes out again as we still have the gauges to clean and the clock is having modern (more reliable) internals installed by a Melbourne instrument maker. The new: vents, dash emblem, heater panel etc will go in when that comes back. Meanwhile, the new shift knob reproduction I ordered is sitting in place now on top of the short throw conversion gearbox with brass synchros…going to be nice in the change! Do you think (what appears to be) standard brakes will be up to the job? Jeff I won’t be tracking or racing the car any time soon so we won’t need to take care of brake upgrades right away. Brake upgrades are fairly easy to add after completion, if required. Locky is doing a couple of things to my brakes that he did to his similar setup 240z when he raced, so the current brakes should be up to the task of cruising around, hitting a Sunday beer garden and getting the odd coffee for now. C.A.R. Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 As Jon said above, the brakes can be changed at any stage in the future if Jon requires an upgrade. People think standard Z brakes are crap on the road, but then you cant compare worn out 50yo brakes to new ones... I'm now waiting on my painter to have a spot open up in the next few weeks, so the Z is paused for the moment. OdinZ and Wags 2 Quote

Wags Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 Original Datsun horn pad arrived at Locky’s. Not cheap but it is a good centerpiece. C.A.R., OdinZ, Mike_F and 2 others 5 Quote
Wags Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 Working clock…check! So Locky and I found an aviation instrument/clockmaker manufacturer and restorer in Melbourne who fit a very reliable and modern electronic internal to the existing clock gauge whilst keeping the original face. They then tested for a number of weeks and made any adjustments so it holds time like a digital wrist watch. The face lens still has to be cleaned and polished but you get the idea. Also the tach was converted for use with electronic ignition. gilltech, OdinZ and gav240z 2 1 Quote

It took a bit of searching on the interwebs and a bit of a call around to the places but we found a good place. Good to know I won’t have an issue with the clock rather than risking fixing the original. Even when they were new the reliability wasn’t spectacular. gav240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 12, 2021 Administrators Posted August 12, 2021 I'll look into it, I've got a bunch of clocks that I got as cores after selling a few I had restored by Ron, but haven't been able to find many 280zx clocks as donors to repair them. So any alternative sounds good and I can do something about a stash of S30Z clocks sitting in a cupboard lol. Wags 1 Quote
Wags Posted October 3, 2021 Author Posted October 3, 2021 And into the painting booth for the final spray. Then a polish and denib I’m a few days time when the paint hardens. Locky at CAR has done an amazing job with the body. CBR Jeff, C.A.R. and Ponyo240z 2 1 Quote

I actually was going to get their help with reproducing a 10K cluster for my Stagea 260rs - since it was missing when I got it due to a previous cluster burn out issue. I came across their reviews on Google which kind of put me off at first, but I contacted them and they said in order to reproduce a custom tach I'd need to have a lot of orders otherwise it's simply too expensive. The lady working there told me that even if I had to pay up to $1000 for a second hand 1 it was worth it.. so that's just what I did. Although I found an entire cluster at $600 AUD - which based on what they told me feels like it was a realistic price. I've since noted someone asking $4,000 AUD for 1 on YAJ! - I guess I got mine just in time.. Quote

Wags Posted October 18, 2021 Author Posted October 18, 2021 Looking at seatbelts folks…any recommendations? At this stage I (already bought) have the MSA z store retractable aircraft style seatbelts not even thinking about ADR. Anyone got any recommendations or advice on their legality and/or some recommendations for alternatives if they are not legal? * please DM me direct so this thread doesn’t turn into a seatbelt thread. There is a guy in Sydney, near me, in Girraween called Rays Auto Seat. http://www.rayseat.com.au/ He mainly fits car seats and child seats, but he can also Re- reel your old belts. He gets ADR approved new reel, and fits your buckles and covers to them. I think I paid $80 each? Rudi. Wags 1 Quote
