Administrators gav240z Posted February 3, 2017 Author Administrators Posted February 3, 2017 Agree, it's worth about $30k to the right person, but that right person may have lost interest now. Quote
Agno Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 From the latest ad... It seems like someone has been reading this forum: On 03-Feb-17 at 11:57:04 AEDST, seller added the following information: We have been informed by all the Experts and nit pickers that technically it is a 2nd owner car because we purchased it from the original owner. We have brought the car to our home and washed the outside and are offering it for sale.. The car is not registered and has not been registered for around 25years The car has not been transferred into our ownership,,,so technically by paperwork its a one owner vehicle. Scammers not to bother or waste my time. To all that waste my time asking me for extra pictures and info and then not reply to me,dont bother at all. If you need better pictures or want to put money into our bank account YOU WILL HAVE TO VIEW THE VEHICLE FIRST. Thank you Dion. Surely they have sold a car before. If I was dropping $30k on a car I would NOT be paying someone a deposit to take a few more damn photos! Lazy salesman! andyk_79 1 Quote

Dionysus Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Over the past year I've seen several cars not sold on ebay and over the course the highest bid reduces as time goes on, almost like the credibility of the auction is lost. My opinion is the 30k bid was a solid price to sell it for at this point in time, I just hope they bottled the "barn find" dirt and sell it with the car. gav240z 1 Quote

If you have a limit of $xxx and that doesn't meet the reserve the first time you don't bother bidding next time around. Only exception is if a new buyer comes along that wasn't bidding first time. As Gav points out though, you need two buyers (or one buyer who places a bid above the reserve) Edited February 3, 2017 by 1600dave Quote
1600dave Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 No idea how old this listing is, but at current price it seems a bargain even if LHD. Topy steel wheels and hard top. http://www.autotrader.com.au/cars-for-sale/1966-DATSUN-FAIRLADY-CONVERTIBLE.-JCW3552452?backurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autotrader.com.au%2Fcars-location%2Fmelbourne-vic-3000%2Fdatsun&backtext=Results Price is reasonable, maybe not dirt cheap. As with zeds, LHD instantly wipes off the $$$. Also, 1500/1600 versions of the fairlady are much cheaper than the 2000's. That particular one has been for sale for quite a while. Quote
AndBir Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 A buy it now sets a fixed price on what something is worth, where as in an auction it could exceed said "buy it now" if 2 or more interested parties bid up the price. Of course the best way to achieve the highest price is a sealed bid sort of auction where potential buyers put in their best offer. An auction will only ever get you the second highest price someone is willing to pay. When I bought HS30 00150, the under bidder was only willing to go up to around $5,500. But I was prepared to go to $10k from memory. I was delighted when I won the auction. I understood you can have the best of both worlds with eBay, have it up for Auction and at the same time have a "Buy it Now" price on the same listing. Quote
Dirt Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 I understood you can have the best of both worlds with eBay, have it up for Auction and at the same time have a "Buy it Now" price on the same listing. I think the Buy it Now disappears if normal bids are placed, so it isn't always super useful for a seller. Don't know if this applies to Car auctions. Quote

HS30-11901 (which makes it a 1972 not 1973) L24-108979 I notice that the seller has lowered the reserve but it's still not reached it at AU $21,100.00 with 17.5hrs remaining. I've sent them 3 messages asking basic questions about the car and not had a single reply so there's no way I'd bid on it if I don't hear back. In fact, the seller doesn't seem interested so I think I should take it as a sign to walk away. Has anyone been to see the car or had any contact from the seller? Quote

I sent a question to the seller last Thursday (Feb 2), simply asking which suburb the car is in and I did not get a reply either. The price is now at $24,500 and the reserve has been met. Moderators PB260Z Posted February 7, 2017 Moderators Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) Did everyone happen to miss this ad I posted earlier? Hi I saw it, but to be honest a phone screenshot of a FB Page does not really allow you anyone to get decent look at the photo's. The screen shot doesn't show the FB page name either. If you posted a link to the FB listing you might get more comment, assuming it is an FB group that is public. Just my 2c worth Cheers PB Edited February 7, 2017 by PB260Z gav240z 1 Quote
