Importing Panels From North America (Mostly 240Z)
MichaelT replied to gav240z's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
ISPM-15 is the international standard for heat treating / sterilising wooden pallets. All whole-wood pallets should have the ISPM-15 stamp visible. I had read, before organising my shipments, that non-compliant pallets are not allowed to be exported from the USA. So I am surprised that the wood got through, however I have never tested the 'theory'. Other forms of processed wood (ply/fibreboard/wood composites) are acceptable in an untreated state. If lucky and you have no other options, you may find IPSM-15 stamped pallets on eBay local to the seller. Otherwise some importers will help you source them. The importer I use offered to swap my pallets over if needed but I always managed to get my stuff packed onto an ISPM-15 pallet. -

Funnily the last engine I received through customs, a couple of weeks ago, got pinged and had to be cleaned. First time for me. Came through Brisbane. I wonder if they are scrutinising car parts more now (Asbestos hysteria) or if its just bad luck / chance? Previous shipments sailed through with all kinds of quarantine nightmares. One batch of suspension parts had all sorts of mud nests on them and were covered in dirt. When I asked about the engine they said there might be grass seeds in the grease stuck to the sump etc. On the plus side, the engine was very clean when I picked it up!! -
Not dismantling. My engine (U20) came in a container with vehicles as habe all the parts i have imported. It all got inspected as you would expect and this time my engine got cleaned as it had heavy grease staining and some dirt on it. It's going to be customs officer specific though, as you'd expect, and all the suspension bits i got in a previous shipment were heavily soiled with dirt but got through on other shipments. In the brief discussion we had, the guy said the customs inspectors that inspect the cars seem to be interested in brake pads etc and maybe gaskets but they have not had any dismantling done yet. I wonder if the Ferrari story involves a little Schaudenfreude and officers with a chip on their shoulder. Time will tell and hopefully some commonsense prevails.

I was talking to a vehicle importer today out at the Port of Brisbane while picking up a pallet and he was saying zero problems so far including with American cars. But time will tell.

Be good to have this story validated.

I brought 3 pallets of Datsun 2000 parts this year. PM if you have any questions. Was a good experience and only taxes were GST. -
He may not have received it.... I've always had a reply within 48 hours.

MichaelT replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I do like the way sensible conversation about cars continues on, despite the audible screaming of children in the background. Are too! Are not! M -
Love the engine sound in this. Action starts 1:10.

Given there were Toranas and Geminis (badged, not isuzu) there. Wasn't sure what was going on there.

Carrying on about nitpickers and having a rant on the auction is not confidence inspiring for myself. -

Fairlady? Yes same garage. The brick markings between the door handle and fly screen are the same in the Honda and 240z pics. -

The Ebay Thread #2 - Post Ebay Parts Here!

Ordinary pics for 600,000Yen asking price. I'd want a better look at them. -
Bugger about the water temp sender. My car has separate guages so none of the original are used. I want to change that one day. But I have other fish to fry at the moment.

Thats the one I have. It's best to hook up a laptop rather than use hand controller. The cable can be purchased fairly easily. But you need to buy a 15 to 9 pin RS-232 cable: http://www.wolfems.com.au/products/v4-pc-link-cable (there are some available from eBay for $7 but I didn't know my way around these cables so coughed up the money. I have no idea if this will work the same : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-4M-VGA-HD15-15-Pin-Male-to-DB9-9-Pin-RS232-Male-Adapter-Cable-Lead-Converter-/400953982153 Then you have to buy the USB adapter cable from Wolf - available online. It's bloody pricey. You can buy other cables with the same chipset but some people have had trouble with "non-OEM" ones and WOLF wont offer technical support if you don't use theirs. http://www.wolfems.com.au/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=9561935&A=SearchResult&SearchID=1740981&ObjectID=9561935&ObjectType=27 Its about $175 otherwise. Massively overpriced. But their setup works and I saw forums where others bought "non-OEM" cables and had problems. I considered it relatively cheap access to my ECU. Either way. The hand controller looks like the worst invention possible, and using your laptop is so much easier. I can alter cells on the ECU map while driving and upload new maps, again while driving. Obviously you want to optimise your ignition and fuel base maps on a dyno but for accel enrichment etc, you need to be out on the road. I consider the cables a worthy expense. I bought mine under duress because my crank sensor broke and I had no idea about how the EFI worked (came with car when i bought it an worked well). So buying the cables was cheaper than towing it to the nearest WOLF specialist. But once it dies...that access is very good for diagnosis. P.S. interested to know your experience with the WOLF people. I've found them very helpful a lot of the time. Their website is not too helpful though. Michael

Not able to hook up a laptop and use the PC software? I went this way and it makes life so much easier. Especially when you can sit it on the passenger seat and tweak it as you go. What ECU do you have?

Yeah its daylight savings. I was being a bit cheeky. The ad was posted a few minutes before I logged in. Seems like a very good buy.
