Hi Lurch,

Have a manifold set aside and about to go 3 new Weber's once I get a price estimate though the mechanics trade account. Don't want to wast your time but if were talking similar money as is 25% more pm me the ballpark figure. Some source appear to be indicating 2.5 - 3k but are smaller.

If it's far more happy to proceed with the weber option.

I wouldn't expect much change out of $10k for these... Crazy what they sell for now.

Realy?? Wow. Wouldnt you just got with the tripple style efi set? Be way less than that.. and better than a carb.

People don't buy these because they are better than EFI though. They buy them because they want carbs and want a period correct part.

Value is due to rarity and demand.

I used to think carbs were more period, but most of the race cars were injected, so is this really a bit of a misnomer?

No carb is better than equivalent  ITB EFI from a technical point of view either. It's hardly fair to compare triple side draft carbs with stock 280ZX injection either.

Electric.

13b I reckon...

don't know how you came up with that conclusion. I've never seen a 240Z or 260Z in race or rally form from the period with injection. Maybe someone somewhere may have dabbled with mechanical injection, but definitely not EFI.

I would call that much more than crazy. I just don't see it.

I meant to say factory race cars sorry.

Factory 'Works' circuit race versions of the LY ( some of them internally nicknamed the 'R390' engine ) on ECGI injection and with dry sump were giving well in excess of the figures quoted for the privateer versions....

Just to clarify: The engine pictured is using a genuine Nissan 11041-N3175 'LY' / 'Crossflow' cylinder head. A two-valve, semi-hemi chambered design using a single camshaft with twin rocker shafts and diagonally acting 'finger' type rockers. The first 'LY' heads were seen on factory race cars in Japan in late 1972, and were being used in competition by the Works team in early 1973. The LY was designed to be used with Nissan's own ECGI ( Electronic Control Gas Injection ) 'computer' injection system, and by the end of 1973 just such a setup ( LY with ECGI ) was being used on L24s mounted in factory Works rally cars competing in the World Rally Championship. The factory called these complete engines 'LR24', and sometimes LY24-R'. Later, bigger, versions used in circuit racing in Japan were also nicknamed 'L390' - in a tip of the hat to Nissan's defunct R380 / R381 / R382 / R383 sports-racing cars.

Not that Lurch has said anything to me ;)

But he was amazingly impressed with power of my 4.5 Twin Turbo Diesel Landcruiser

Clearly he's putting the stock engine back in so he can sell the car and buy a 120Y

Or a Datsun Sunny, just like a 120Y - only heavier.

SOLD.

Congratulations.

And to think I was starting to feel a little guilty for turning your "for sale" thread into a circus.
