Yes, please do. Otherwise I'm not going to have any free time either ... Lol

Yeah sorry about that, I managed to string a good lap together for that 2.23.1. I am just a little bit competetive with this sort of game. I did manage a couple of hours in the shed this morning which felt so much more productive than if I spent 2 hrs on PC2.

Nothing wrong with some friendly competion though!!!!!!!!!!

Quick update as it has been a while, it has been good to make some progress. The shell has been at the painter since mid April, unfortunately there has been no progress on it to date, hopefully they can get to it soon, I will be happy if I get it back by the time the good spring weather comes along.

In the mean time I have been working on suspension and engine, enjoying a bit more space in the shed while the shell is away.

The matching number engine has been detailed and the carbs and extractors have been mock fitted to allow for me to make up a custom linkage setup. Most of the suspension has been painted and I just need to finish putting it back together.

Check out the pics.

Cheers Jeff

Thanks George. I have no doubt your suspension will look immaculate like the rest of your car. Good to hear your making progress on your suspension, I think it's nice when these projects get back on there wheels again. Mine will be about 8 yrs by the time it gets back on it's wheels.

My car unfortunately has to be built with budget in mind. I would have liked to put a Mangoletsi inlet manifold on but just couldn't afford to go that way. I just try to do the best I can whilst trying to not spend to much money, which means making and doing as much as I can myself.

...How did you refinish the suspension components?
Sand/wire wheel/media blast?
And what paint/s did you use?
Sprayed or brushed?

I just had a weird premonition that Jeff's answer may include the letters K,B & S :o

And the winner is!!!!!! Absolutely spot on, I used KBS rust seal for all the suspension components and brushed it on. I degreased everything using KBS aqua clean and a pressure cleaner then wire wheeled all of the bigger components and sand blasted some of the smaller parts in my small sand blasting cabinet. I then gave them all a hit with the rust blast - which is just an acid etch which helps to treat any rust areas and give a good surface for the paint to adhere to. Brushing the KBS onto all these parts is actually quite difficult with all the curves etc and brushing whilst parts are hanging is also difficult. In the end I was pretty happy with the way it all came up.

I used KBS motor coater for the engine and it is the same process for that, brushed on etc. I was really happy with that product - lets just see how it goes over time now.

Thanks for looking, cheers Jeff

Sounds good, having used KBS rust seal before. I'd probably spray it on, rather than brush for a more uniform finish. It's definitely durable.

I used it underneath, inside the car and in the scuttle area, it works really well but I don't know if I'd want to spray it on and get it in my lungs

That's the main reason I don't spray it either Mossy.

A few more pics, just about done with the suspension, a few small bits and pieces still to do - steering rack mount caps and tension rods. Also waiting on some bump stops the finish the front struts, they were missing from the kit I got from the USA but hopefully some will be sent soon. Diff and half shafts have been detailed as well, still have the gearbox and tail shaft to do.

To be honest I haven't got that far. I recall there are some options around including the one Arizona Z car now do. I might just go with leaving it in gear, a set of aluminium wheel chocks and the rear brake line lock off valve that came with the brake setup. The way this car will be driven means it won't be to critical.

Open to ideas.

I'm not too sure if you are registering the car or not but I would guess you'd need one for rego. The brake line block off valve would be illegal and never accepted.

There is an old thread (here) by 'WOSA' who made new backing plates which facilitated the mounting of the Wilwood primary calliper and also their parking calliper (Go-kart calliper). I believe he offers the drawing free these days for you to make your own. He has in recent times revised the concept using a Wilwood calliper which incorporates a parking function, but he needs a certain quantity to do a production run. In the original design the cables were too long, creating too much slack/free play, as they incorporated a large sweep arc to facilitate connection to the parking calliper from the rear.

To be honest, and I say this for the benefit of others who might be going down the 'Arizona Z - Wilwood' track, the rear brakes are an overkill for road use or light competition. I think one is better off with a road car set up (Skyline ?) which incorporate a functioning handbrake. I will add that the performance of the brakes is phenomenal but the parking brake is a PITA.

Jeff, I appreciate this may not be an opinion you want to hear but I offer it in good faith and from my own learning experience.

(edit) Just to twist the knife while I've got it in. I'd recommend you remove the pistons and flush the callipers out before fitting. I don't know if it was machining coolant or what but mine spat out horrible gunk when I first bleed them and I had a weeping seal which seemed to right itself after I removed the calliper and flushed it.

The joys of 'building it myself'.

I fitted a hydraulic handbrake to the rally car a couple of years ago.  Haven’t used it yet.

The brakes are overkill but my God they make the car pull up. I run the same setup with a spot caliper handbrake on the wear as per Waz's setup.  Passed ACT rego and engineering no probs, however I still wouldnt be confident relying soley on the handbrake on a hill.  But the Willwoods are fantastic.

Jeff, you make need the proportioning valve too as I needed to adjust my bias away from the rears - the rear end kept locking up under hard braking.

Got the proportioning valve already so all good there

G'day Lads,

I got an unexpected phone call from my painter yesterday evening to say my car was painted and I could pick the shell up on Sat. Here are the pics from picking the shell up literally 2 hours ago - I thought you guys should be the first to know.

Cheers Jeff
