That's a bargain, if the descriptions is accurate and pictures are a good representation of the true condition. Wont last long at that price.

Agree, looks to be a good opportunity for someone.

Has anyone actually inspected it ?

^ Were many Australian 260Z's fitted with an 8-track?

I'm not aware of ANY that were fitted with 8-track players. My guess is that it was sourced from Japan or the US and fitted to this car to give it the "authentic" 1 owner Grandma look. ;)

The 8-track was an option in lieu of the standard push-button seek radio, for 2+2 models only (quoting original advertising material I have collected), in various markets. So there's no reason AFAIK that it couldn't be original to this car. I don't think the 8-track was available with the earliest 2+2s, but certainly by '76 which is the year of this car.

Thanks for the clarification, but were 8-track's ever big in Australia? I feel like it was never a big format over here? Having not lived through the time though I'm not sure?

Well I remember friends in NZ who owned mid to late-'70's English that had 8-tracks fitted from new, but that then-new technology didn't seem to last long, I think maybe just a couple of years? A friend's '75 or early '76 MGB (last of the chrome bumpers) bought new in the UK then brought back to NZ was one example with the factory 8-track. The problem that owners found was that there didn't seem to be many 8-track tapes available over the counter in NZ. But I think very soon the 8-tracks had been dropped in favour of tape cassette units. I presume Australia was much the same.

Not sure if you could say they were "Big" in Aus, but I removed quite a few in the 80's and replaced them Cassette and Booster/EQ units, so they were not uncommon.

Cheers

Damn, the temptation is very strong. Has anyone gone and had a look yet? or know of the car?

Do it...do it.

I don't know of the car anymore than what the ad shows, but if you want me to go look at it I can try and help out?

I had a look at it on Sunday morning. There was bit more rust than ( Theres only a couple of small spots of surface rust, nothing more ? ) Nothing major that I could see, right side rear pilar near roof was cracked most of the way, left side cracked about 1/3,   Surface ? rust around rear side windows, a few small holes under the passenger door rubber bottom front corner sill, some bubbles bottom left corner panel that the rear hatch closes to, a few dings and scrapes, paint on the roof was cracked and peeling, had minor body repairs done to front drivers guard and repainted years ago. Looked pretty good under car, without pulling all the carpet out the floors looked ok, spare wheel well clean and dry. Door cards looked good, seats need redoing centre console and dash cracked it was bit mouldy on the inside. Motor started fine, a little smoky ( 10 years sitting would do that ? ) Gearbox was reconditioned before being taken off the road, spongy brakes, did have Air con.

This could be a good project for someone that has Panel/Paint experience. I am no expert and have only owned my Z for a year and am still learning about some of the body issues these cars have..

Gav, maybe. Need to convince the boss first.....might be gone by then.

Jeff, maybe. I get the feeling people only want the cars that are cheaper but need work. Like me. Even though I have no experience. Haha

Scotty, thanks for the info. The roof does look quite faded in the photos, i thought it might have just been photo quality.

I might just stick with my bus for now.

There was a really nice example of a 260Z 2 seater on carsales.com a few months back for $35,000

Silver in colour and had a restoration already done.

The blue 260Z for $21,000 seems like a good buy on the surface but It's going to cost to restore properly.

Makes me wish I had jumped on the silver one!

2 1971 Datsun 240z s. The green one is matching numbers all there and original but rusty and in need of a rotisserie restoration. The other unfortunately has had an engine transplant, and in similar condition. Will not part of seperate. These are a huge project, please don't wast my time, if your not looking full restoration these are not for you.

Both cars were recently sold in the past 6-12 months. Green 1 was pretty darn original when it was last listed. If it still has it's original parts probably a good restoration candidate.

Spoke to the guy this morning, he said green one all original with matching numbers and the one in better condition. Chassis is belted with rust but salvageable. Red one has an L26 in it.

Red one as doner unless you have deep pockets.

He did say he has a few callers already today and one guy going out this afternoon to have a look.

Not negotiable on price as it "owes him more" than his selling it.

Wealth of knowledge you are Gav!
