Thanks for your post Luke and clearing some of the questions up.,and i totally agree with Gav240z post, just critiquing, not pointing a finger of something doggy. i wish you had the original engine as it would have made it more desirable and good luck with the sale ,

I checked my gold car and compliance is missing, re #0672 lot of people own cars which have filled the vents on the c pillar in, as no badge there means miniscule aero improvement, (or just not having any badges to fit). I am sure loads of compliance plates have fallen off over the years

I have attached photos of #0521 interior, previous owner and myself have removed most of it  :D and it definitely has the vents on the 1/4

She has the correct tool bins.

I also own #888 and she has the vents and the tool bins compliance 6/71 (will under go total restoration one day)

I have just looked at the WA Z Car Register and it shows #0501 owned by a  D Naughton and address is listed as WA, if he is a user of this forum or anyone knows him we might be able to find once and for all, if from #501 they were the second series of the 240Z sold in Oz

I can't confirm if this has been done, Matt owned the car for 20 years and had it as a road car he maybe able to bring some light into it, But I have just looked inside the rear quarters and there is the same pressed inner hollow cup the same as my #1052 car, if the holes were welded up the back of welds will be hidden inside the pressing, do the early cars have that same pressed steel cup there where the vent should be. BTW my 8/71 #1052 has compliance plates.

No they don't they were added on the series 2 cars to help with air flow in the cabin.

Easy fix on the car in question fill n the vent hole and get holes cut in the rear hatch, the rear hatch inserts are still available  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-1970-71-Rear-Hatch-Grille-Vent-Set-NEW-OEM-Nissan-/331495590256?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d2ead4970

Yep cutting holes in rear hatch should be simple enough..I'm fabricating an entire lower section of an early rear hatch due to rust and damage. I originally sourced a vented hatch, but it seems that was a rather futile thing to do as I'm cutting that hole piece out anyway.

When I remove the 1/4 plastics in my early car I'll take reference photos of the badge area.

#501 was the first HS30 off the production line in Jan 1971 (according to a Nissan parts manual). It is what we call a series 2. (USA have different numbers for their series classifications, but they are really just splitting hairs)

It has quarter panel vents and metal tool bins.

The red rolling shell has been taken off ebay?, either the seller started regretting putting it up or someone payed a very pretty penny to just buy it outright off of ebay. Bit strange, wonder what $$ it took

Someone made an offer they couldn't refuse I guess. I would guess 10K. I guess someone wanted an early S30z. No surprise...

I'm either blind or last night that car was listed around $14k - looks like it was revised?

I also saw this 76 260z 2 seater shell for sale.

Bit of a prick, I don't like his method. If you get an offer and accept it then sell. Don't dangle it out there looking for a better offer.

Looks like quite a bit of work in that.

She is rusty but what zed isn't in that price range. Well there will be a project thread started over the weekend if I get it if not I hope it goes to a good home. He is a good guy but looking at going on a holiday in the near future and there is a lot of centimental value in it for him so just chasing what he can get. I would be down there tomorrow to pick it up but last I heard he was busy all day so Saturday is the only option.

Hopefully things are on my side and we have another zed getting restored on the forums.

Posted

Yeah I'm the buyer for the car. Dreamt of a 240z for ages so hoping this still goes ahead for me to pick up on Saturday.

I texted him and asked why he wouldn't just accept the 4k offer... his reply was "cos i got offered more"

Then why not take the 'more'? Sounds like just fishing for the highest price

Yeah as mentioned he needs cash so he is just trying to get as much as he can for it. It's outta my hands now so will see what happens.
