Wow. You have to wonder if sellers aren't asking enough when they go this quick...

I don't wonder, I know they aren't asking enough. Hence my 24 hour prediction.

Comes with free spider webs, no price listed. Not in a rush to sell ;).

Has early console, but later speedo. My guess is 71 model. Ad says it's a 73 so could equally be possible that someone swapped the console out.

another two 2+2's for sale, once again both from opposite ends of the spectrum:

The bad: $3000, pretty sad looking turbo L series with a pretty sad looking body and a very desirable rag top sunroof.

The good: $22 500,  looks the goods, but id want to see full documented restoration on a rotisserie for that kind of coin

Carsales must give you the option of inserting prewritten text about a car. It very much reads like template based text. I thought it was typical car dealer speak but I'm seeing it in all their Ads recently.

If I was in the market for a 2+2 I'd seriously consider it. Hope inspection means it lives up to it's description, certainly sounds like a good little unit and air-con to boot!

Weird, should be a 1970 with that chassis number. Maybe it got delayed somewhere until it got complied.

Hmmm #150 was complied in the 11th Month of 1970. So it seems reasonable that this was complied in 4th month of 71.

Interesting that the compliance plate has paint around the edges so it has been taped up when the engine bay was painted , but on the other side of the coin is that instead of rivets it is fastened with self tapping screws and has tears in the alloy behind the screws from where it had been removed at some time. Makes you think. (Conspiratory theorist). ;)

Well... it might be the "Stevie Wonder special paint job". Notice how the rear licence plate light globe holder wasn't properly removed? So it's been painted red... The panel gaps look ok though and the paint might come up ok. The big question is what was the repair work like?

note the air vent on the  passenger rear c pillar is from a post HS3000500 , possible entire rear 1/4 has been replaced? also would want a to see the chassis number stamped on the firewall

Good pick up and I'm all for critiquing a car for sale, but without vents in rear hatch it's possible that the non-vented 1/4 panel is not the factory fitted 1/4 panel? The thing is I always hear this information that HS30 000500 was the cut-over point and from then the minor revisions occurred, but I'm somewhat sceptical because I've never seen any solid data to suggest this is the case. It seems to be S30z community folklore, I'd be interested to see who has the highest chassis number S30z that retains the early car features like hand-throttle, early console, rear vents in hatch, 240z C-pillar badges, solid steering wheel etc..

As a side note I do believe this car would have the vents in hatch and early S30z features...

The race shell I bought off Matt is 0672 and it has no vents in rear quarters, and I remember him saying it came with air vents in hatch, it also has tool boxes.

The photo of the drivers side  rear 1/4 doesn't have the vent, i have a mate who has #409 which is an early girl (no tool boxes  and no tool boxes built in) and has a compliance plate. but i think i have heard of one slightly higher,

from what i have heard all cars sold from 1971 in Australia had to have compliance plates fitted, so i recon a few cars of the 1970 cars remained unsold and then need to have the compliance fitted.

My gold car (see me avatar photo) is a 71 and is #521 with c pillar vents and tool boxes i will see if my gold car still has a compliance fitted and i will check the date

According To Nissan's 280ZX Book, Production and Distribution For The Datsun 240Z Australia got 319 of the 1970 production cars

Odd it has tool boxes if it's an early car in other respects.

My 72 has no compliance plate and it's never been an issue in terms of road worthy checks and registration. So I'm not sure if that's true. Interesting regarding your 71 and tool boxes etc.. Does it have the early console and other early features?

In terms of that book, I'm really not sure how much I trust those numbers. We don't know much about how those figures were validated or where they originally came from. Although it wouldn't surprise me if we did only get ~300 240z's in 1970. You certainly don't see many for sale these days. Survival rate seems to be really really low.

Hi guys, I am the owner of the red zed for sale on eBay. As for questions doubting the cars number. I cannot be 100% but who can. I bought this car long before there was interest in them like there is today. I bought it of an old guy for $1500 about 17years ago. So I don't think he would have been interested in faking a body number. I am no expert on zed's by any means. I can tell you it has no toolboxes inside and as fare as I know the rear quarter was never replaced. He never said it was and I never new enough to ask. All rust was removed from the body an replaced with metal. There is still some small areas of rust in the floor pans the passenger side has had a new replacement pan welded in and there is one for the driver side. The rust that was removed was minimal some in the door sills and a few pinholes in the quaters. The minimal rust condition of the car was the reason I bought it.

The paint was done about eight years ago and no rust appers to have returned.

If anyone wants to know more I'm happy to answer any questions. You can contact me on 0437239917

I don't want and nor am I trying to rip anyone on the sale and I think for the price on it it would still be a good deal even if it wasn't the wright body number. Which I believe it is correct.

Thanks

Luke

Thanks for chiming in Luke, we all like to critique cars for sale so it's nothing personal. I do believe this car should have a vented rear hatch and it looks like the rear 1/4 panel was replaced with a later style version (with the circular hole). That's not a bad thing and I'm sure not unusual given the way these cars rust as we've all seen.

It certainly looks like a solid starting point, far better than a lot of rust buckets that have been on the market.

If you get a chance to upload more photos of what you mentioned regarding rust repairs etc.. please do so I think it will help your sale.
