I think this was for sale in Tasmania for around $7k, maybe 12 months or so ago...

Possibly bought it thinking they'd remove the fiberglass body etc and then discovered how difficult it was? Maybe found rust? Either way they're making a tidy profit at $14k.

Someone else might remember the car/confirm price?

Doesn't then L in the vin number mean it was originally left hand drive so I assume it has had a RHD swap at some point?

Yep

If you back track this thread I'm sure I listed it here, will look later if I have time.

It is odd that it mentioned HLS30 for chassis prefix, it certainly looks RHD to me and I'd be surprised if it wasn't a HS30 car or S30 prefixed car for that matter.

The amp gauge has been changed to a later volt meter, it has the early looking console. So it looks to be a 71.

It's difficult to value this car, so much has been changed, it would be a big job to go back to original, thankfully it's not got a sunroof about the only faux pas it hasn't done to upset a purist.

I can't decide if I hate the seats or the rear light treatment more, I think it's the rear light grille slat thing that irks me most.

I'd say it's worth about $7k at most, with a view to selling the wheels, seats, engine and removing the flares, but judging by the surface rust on the 1/4 window I'd say you're gonna find a lot of bog in that rocket and if it lived in Tasmania probably has high moisture content in the air which has caused it to rot inside out, it's just not coming through the paint yet.

A brave man *edit / or woman /* would tackle this resto....

20K is a drop in the ocean compared to what it would cost to bring a lot of the regular rust bucket 2+2's up to this condition. So for someone looking for a tidy 2+2 it's a bargain in my opinion plus you can jump in and enjoy it. Not spend hours fixing it up. :)

Very good point, a true "nothing to spend" car.

true, id even consider 25k a good price for a fully restored 2+2, id never try and push 35k for one, i know it wouldn't sell, just doesn't have the desirability of 2 seaters.

What i find funny, and i think about it alot,  is the fact i was more than happy to pay 25k for my S15 when i bought it,  yet if i see 25k for a S30z i go ooohhhh..... pricy!

Even though it might have been a complete nut and bolt restoration, as new condition, id have a harder time forking over the money for the zed than the silvia.

I know in my head it is well worth it, because it would have cost at least double that to restore it.

I just think subconsciously we have all been groomed by society to think old = less value, Old = worthless, our society has the mentality to throw everything away, everything is just disposable, once it breaks, buy a new one.

So when we see a car made in 1971 selling for more than a new car, or near new car, we all say "thats not right!" I think we have all been conditioned in this way of thinking, so we instantly say, "dam expensive" but then people like ourselves snap out of it, and go, wait a minute.... this is worth it....

i dunno, im just rambling now

Datsun 260z 2 + 2 with RB25DET registered in NSW

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-2-2-with-RB25DET-registered-in-NSW-/321717178988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4ae7d6926c

"The car is fitted with a Nissan RB25DET engine and gearbox. All running smoothly. In the last two years the car has been fitted with new struts, most bushes, clutch, diff mounts and it has new Pirelli tyres. The car needs a paint job. Currently it has a tailshaft rumble (probably universal joint) Small bits of rust, nothing substantial. Whoever painted the car before our time did a crappy job. Looking at the photo what you see for example around the rear door frame is not rust but peeling paint"

"The car can be seen at Avalon NSW. Call 0414496972 to make a time. The car has been blue slipped and the engine is on the rego papers. The motor is standard and is rated at 187 KW I believe. The motor and gearbox were mounted professionally. With a decent paint job and the tailshaft (driveline) sorted this could be a magnificent sports car. Please, no gawkers. Only see it if you are genuinely interested in buying it and only bid if you can pay for it"

EDIT: I just discovered that this is a member's (garahamv) car and the subject of this thread;

My loss is your gain

I aquired this tidy example of a 1973 Datsun 240z in its current condition with the best intentions to have the car ready for the 50th year anniversary of the Z car.

Unfortunately due to a change in employment conditions I cannot see the project progressing for the foreseeable future.

The chassis is solid with rust work to be complete around the taillights, hatch, rear quarter panels, bonnet, minor floor pan, roof ect ect.

On the upside, the roof⁄ hatch hinge areas are in great condition, the car comes with new front fenders and door skins. All parts will be sold with the chassis, these are boxed or wrapped up for transport. Inspections are welcome to asses the whole package on offer, it is a non rolling shell.

The car comes complete to the best of my knowledge minus engine, gearbox & steering wheel. It was last registered in NSW they must be over east.... But an L28 or RB engine conversion is a very popular.

I have included a few photos of the 240Z but I encourage you to come down and take a look in the flesh. Inspections welcome this weekend 18th & 19th (Helena Valley WA)

Another one in Blacktown - No photos yet.

Says low chassis # and asking $20k

Great car up for grabs, has interior retrimmed, SK Triples other fancy bits and pieces.

Fantastic history from the previous owner, just needs to be put back together, lack of time and space to complete. Would suit a savvy well equiped buyer who has the space to complete this awesome project. Registration has lapsed, however I do have a pink slip and can supply rego if required. Also Rubbers and everything else will be supplied to complete. nothing else to spend except Labour.

Please dont call unless you are genuinely interested in this beauty.

Photos will be posted once the car has been pulled out of the shed this weekend.

Thanks for all your interest.

Too cheap?

Too cheap?

I think it's pretty fair. Especially considering what you get for an extra 5-6k more (a running car in pretty decent condition!)
