Riceburner Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I saw the car all the time in Parkdale, up until I moved very recently. It was on full reg and seemed to be used most days. I actually saw Waz at Zworx in Mordialloc do the bodywork and spray job on it (metallic brown?), that'd be at least 7yrs ago now. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Was in Perth for $6500, apparently in a lot worse condition than the pics. A review by someone that looked at it: Such a piece of crap, drove over hour and 15 mins to see it. Holes through the sills you could put your fist through, holes all over the floor inner arches, rear valance, list is endless. Every panel had bog on it, all flaking off because it had terminal rust underneath the bog. Interior was completely rooted too. It was running but we never even bothered to start it. Never seen such a piece of crap, would be hard to give it away serouisly. Stevie wonder welded plates into the floor, it's not even a parts car. The man is on crack to think it's worth $1000 not to mention the 6500 asking price. Those were not recent pics as the car didn't move for 2 years and tis not the same house. And from the buyers mate: Yea well we had a look at it and my mate bought, it's rego'd we got it running but only thing bad is all the rust, but all the rust bits as in floor and panels you can get floor pans and everything from the U.S. So I think that's the part my mate will be going down, it'll be expensive but it's his dream Quote

We bought the car painted not sure if there's any rust cannot say as I'm not an expert, headlight surrounds, spoiler & tailgate not painted. Engine is in car not running 90% complete requires electrical wiring, really suit car enthusiast as it is a maching numbers car original 6cyl twin carb engine. Rear left tailight & number plate bracket, inspection plates near bonnet and petrol flap missing. Needs work. I recommend viewing the car. Must sell due to lack of space and time No time wasters, car is sold as is no warranty given no refunds given I almost got excited thinking it had a Rally Clock, but upon closer inspection it has an aftermarket tach and likely some other aftermarket gauge in the clock position. Iceberg Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 This may save someone a trip. The White 240z looks good from far but is far from good. Owner could not tell much about the history. Rust is held together by aluminium right angle and rivets around tail lights, doors and other common rust prone areas. Filler is visible on a quick inspection. Has has been in a front end accident and has been on its roof some time. The paint smells fresh and has runs in it. I think this one was a quick job to try to sell it. I am loosing hope in finding a decent 240z even with a flexible budget. Apologies for any sentencing and spelling mistakes, typed on IPhone. Quote

Hi Great post and Yes you will have saved someone a trip and possibly money. Insofar as finding a car, they do come along from time to time. Karma has way of looking after those who do good by others. Cheers PB Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 7, 2015 Author Administrators Posted May 7, 2015 What an appropriate name iceberg, ironic considering the colour of the car and when you dig below the surface what you might find. Tell me what are you looking for in a 240z? Original or resto mod? Quote
Iceberg Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 What an appropriate name iceberg, ironic considering the colour of the car and when you dig below the surface what you might find. Tell me what are you looking for in a 240z? Original or resto mod? Hi Gav, The goal is to have a daily driver. If it is a clean close to original car then I could not let myself customise it but would aim to bring it back to as close to original spec as possible. On the other hand if it is rough car / 260z rather than 240z then I would go down the path of the customisation as it would cost too much to bring it back to its original spec. Plus some of the them really come up well with the right set up. I have a budget of around $22,000 at the moment so ideally it would be a drivable vehicle that I could use until I source all of the parts for minor rust repairs, seals, missing or worn interior parts etc. I have been on the hunt on and off for about 3 years now and I always miss out by a week or two when it comes to a clean example. Ove the last 6 months I have checked the net every morning without a miss, placed advertisements in newspapers, brought up a Z topic every time I visited regional Victoria and I am very surprised how few people know about the 240z and 260z. Anyway I still have not managed to buy one. The closest I got was a V8 white Datsun couple of years ago in Gladstone, the red original one from Tasmania couple of months ago (missed that one because I could not fly up on the day of the inspection) and the red on from WA few months ago (well restored one that had built thread on this forum) beautiful car. I have been a fan of the Z for about 10 years now (even the Z bus has gorgeous lines– not as good as a two seater but still nice ) and have never owned anything other than Japanese including nostalgia cars such as an RA28 Celica (Fast back that I restored back to original ( got written off in a car park by an L plater) so I will continue looking but I am losing steam so to speak. P.S. my step brother is a mechanic (absolutely loves Z’s as well), and best mate does car interior re-upholstery so I can get quality help. Quote

So I will continue looking but I am losing steam so to speak. What you have just described is the reason people can ask 6-8K for a car that looks like it spent time at the bottom of the Yarra River. Eg: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2630.msg168064.html#msg168064 There just isn't many cars left at all and the ones that would never have been considered 'restorable' are now appearing on the market and people are considering them given their options. I agree with G though, the best examples change hands quietly amongst a select group. Probably because those people want the option of buying it back if they change their mind later and would rather those cars go to people they know or have known for years. Quote
