This car is a classic piece of history in very original condition. All works (of which there has been a lot) have been done to keep and/or restore it to factory condition, and done by external professional mechanics. All numbers are matching (chassis, engine, gearbox).

Just over 2 years ago (about 5000 miles ago) a full engine rebuild and many other works were completed. These included:

- Full upper and lower engine rebuild
- Reconditioning of carbies
- New ignition
- Radiator clean, repair, and flush (original)
- Re-paint engine bay, original fan, and air filter cover
- Gold nickel plating of several latches etc.
- Differential overhaul
- Acid bathed various parts including crank, camshaft, tappet cover, sump

Also since then various other works have been completed such as:

- New tyres
- Air conditioning re-gas (original after market a/c under the dash - fully working)
- New seat belts (to original material pattern with original latches)
- Steering wheel fully restored
- Purchased original hubcaps in excellent condition (very rare)
- Fully serviced by external mechanic

Various other small works have been completed but too many to mention. The only non-original modifications made have been for safety. These are:

- New halogen headlamps (look original)
- Electric fans on radiator (complements original fan, but needed to stop overheating in Australian heat)

Mechanically the car is in excellent condition, runs beautifully, and drives the way it should for its period. Lots of fun to drive.

Cosmetically it is in great shape. The body has no rust, the paint is in very good condition, and everything is very straight. The interior is in good condition, with only a few small tweaks to make perfect (upholsterer quoted about $1000 for full interior restore).

While the car is in great shape, it is 45 years old and is not perfect, so please keep this in mind. It gets limited use (taken out a couple of times a week) and kept fully garaged at all times.

This car even has the original manual and papers in the glove compartment. Also comes with ZZZ240 custom plates.

This is a reluctant sale due to the car no longer being practical for both work and family life. It will come with a roadworthy certificate and registered so you don't have to do the running around.

This car is priced to sell quickly at $43,000, and will hopefully go to an owner who will love the history and rarity of this car as much as I do.

Are you sure it's a 240Z? No pics of plates either.. Looks to have loads of rust in rear quarters, around some window sills and lower front section of wheel well - but I 'spose that's an okay price to pay if someone knows what they're doing?

Based on floor pressings, dashboard, metal fan in back and original colour (903 Blue) it looks like a late 71 240z. It could have been built late 71 like my 240z, so might have still had a 71A gearbox originally. Center console is earlier type with dual choke config.

Chassis Number I'm guessing will be between HS30 01XXXX -> HS30 10XXX range.

Please let me know if someone can confirm it's actual chassis number?

1973 Datsun 240z

Come and grab a piece of Japanese history.. the famous 240z!!

A very regretful sale.

Pictures tell a thousand words and it is evident that this has been my obsession for the last 4 years.. starting out as a stock 240z and ending up as this.. body is the last thing left to do but the plans were to race it for a few years before taking it apart to make it clean and straight.. fairly clean body with some minor rust spots. There is over 70k thrown at this car!

The basics:

L28 with Triple 40dcoe (matching numbers)
2.5inch exhaust with headers
Mild street cam
160hp at the rears.
XYZ Coilovers BY Performance suspension
Adjustable front technotoy tuning lower control arms
Adjustable chromoly rear custom made arms
Adjustable caster rods
Sway bars front and rear
RB20det 5 speed gearbox
Short shifter kit
Heavy duty NPC clutch
R180 4.44 shimmed LSD
Custom made hardened stub axels
Electric fuel pump  (carter pump and tomei fuel press reg)
Electronic distributor
15x9-13 fronts with 205/50/15 R888's
15x10.5 -32 rears with 225/50/15 r888's
Atara Racing wheels.
Suede dash
Sparco genuine sprint seats
Full custom bolt in roll cage (6 point)
Aeroflow front mount oil cooler
Custom T3 2 piece front rotors 300mm
R32/Z32 rebuilt calipers (Front)
Rear 260mm t2 rotors and r31 rear calipers
Adjustable rear brake bias

There's too much to list..

I'm not in a rush to sell so please don't waste your time and mine by offering me lowball figures.. Test drives will not be had unless there's a deposit seen and I will be doing the driving.

Nice....but no rear bumper makes it look unfinished....possibly a little too JDM Bosozoku for me

Posted

It does have a certain appeal.

Damn that's some wide rubber...it must rub even with those flares!

Looks nice but.....

It would be interesting to have a close look at it. Looks like it's hiding a few previous issues, possible.

And the visible oil cooler lines.

But, overall it looks great and a great base for someone with lots of the basics already done.

Price seems ballpark to me considering what we've seen some other rusted, clapped out p.o.s projects go for lately.

Don't really see where the 70k is in that car (seems like he just picked a random number and threw it in) and imo it's well overpriced for what it is but good luck to him.

completely agree! if it was ground up restore id say fair enough but those parts listed alone would be around 15k

and the body still needs to be looked at and straightened out as per ad. sounds like its hiding a few demons.

That's the little old lady owned 260z Zshop was selling a while ago.

Here is the post.

Can confirm. My mate lived down the road from her and I occasionally saw her out driving on really nice days. Apparently she absolutely pampered it and never drove it out in the rain.

Here is a photo I took of it about a year ago.
