$35k 1971 Datsun 240z HS30-00793 This early model 240z was a project purchased from WA approx 6 years ago and has been dry stored ever since. With its previous WA owner it was a similar story and was laid up for many years before being sold. History before that is unknown and previous WA registration documents will be included with the sale. The car has never been registered in SA. The car appears to be very original and accident free with very straight radiator support panel and no evidence of accident damage anywhere around the car. Some rust spots either exist or have been repaired badly in the past - see photos - notably the doglegs showing poor quality repairs and the rear of both chassis rails are rusty and in need of repair. Other typical trouble spots appear to be in good repair but having owned these cars previously there are likely hidden spots that present themselves upon tear down. This 240z was originally 903 Blue and still runs an L24 with twin carbs (not the matching engine) and a 5 speed manual gearbox. The diff is believed to have been upgraded from an r180 to an r200. The car starts and idles but not very well, and is missing its muffler. The car is mostly complete with original parts (seats, steering wheel, centre console, complete interior etc that are all often swapped out over the years) and would make an excellent project - unfortunately other cars have taken priority and the sale will fund progress on those projects. Yep, I assumed that was the case… It only had one side photographed - intentionally (probably), haha. Still very affordable in comparison to other iconic sports cars produced from the same era; such as the GTS Monaro (unforgiving boats to drive), Porsche 911s etc… It think vintage Zed’s are finally starting to become relevant in the Australian classic car market, and in a few years they’ll be priced more accordingly to what they deserve…

If you’re not buying fertile land or investing in metals, you should be accumulating old Z’s - any condition, but make sure you have at least one that can outrun zombies But, I find this topic hard to gauge as there’s limited historical information and I’m repeatedly filtering-out owners with speculative opinions - as we know, the Zed community can at times be a little biased, haha. Only way to ascertain the value and scope the overall trend of this market is to compare historical sales of vehicles - most important are sale prices through a recession or stagnating economy - such as the one we’re currently experiencing. I recently saw a roughly modified red Zed come up on Gumtree which was priced around $40k (I think), and is no longer available. So assuming this example sold, it would appear the market would be plateauing slightly?

Are you sure it's a 240Z? No pics of plates either.. Looks to have loads of rust in rear quarters, around some window sills and lower front section of wheel well - but I 'spose that's an okay price to pay if someone knows what they're doing?

Said 35k to me. Perhaps he's getting bombarded interest so thought it'd be a good idea to raise the price and see who takes the bait. Possibly the worst selling reason you can tell a potential buyer though, lol. There seem to be an awful lot of selfish people getting in on the Zed market to make money for themselves, which is an annoying struggle for genuine buyers that would rather keep the car and enjoy it.

Just spoke to the owner. He's had it for a few months and stated his only purpose for buying it was to make money and capitalise on it. Seemed like an asshole judging from his greedy attitude. I asked how much he's after and he say's "$35,000".... Worth it? I don't know.. but I'm not going to make him any money.
