240alex Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 if the body work is good, i am happy with average paint job, its only cosmetic, and this wont be a show car. i want one as a weekend car/project Body work looked good at the time, no rust that I could see although the paint job was fresh so could have some that's showing through now and the car ran (assuming this is still the same car) - it was also a project at the time and pretty much in the same state as it is on the Gumtree add. I thought it was a great buy at the time and told my mate to snatch it up but he decided to buy a clapped out s1 rx7 instead. Just can't help some people. gav240z 1 Quote

I thought the same thing. I had it in my watch list, forgot about it and when I saw what it had gone for, I was kicking myself. It looked quite original and is the same colour and year as my 2 seater... Damn. Quote

gilltech Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I'd say unfinished project doesn't help. Funny thing is wouldn't take much to make it look more complete. I've been noticing that one as I really like the colour. If it was originally in Brisbane then someone has transported it a long way away only for little progress to be made. If that price is negotiable then I'm surprised it hasn't sold, unless for the price there is actually still a lot of work to be done or re-done. OdinZ 1 Quote

Surface rust is usual for a 44 year old beauty, along with easily repairable minor rust and "charactable" love touches. To round out the package is that the car is almost 100% complete with most of the hard to find and exspensive interior/exteroir bits that seem to get lost along the way and hard to source to complete a project. The Bad -Original engine turns over by key easily, but was informed by previous owner it has possibly done a head gasket. The Otherwise -If it doesn't sell - it will be put back away and most likely not offered again - I have approx 50+ vehicles (30+Datsun/Nissan) so if this isnt the one to go, I'll just consider something else to sell and store it.I am contactable but have issues with service where I work inside a shed however if you leave a voice message or send a text I can reply during a break OdinZ 1 Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted May 31, 2017 Author Administrators Posted May 31, 2017 I hear that beer works wonders for getting things done. A slab might encourage someone to go look at it on your behalf. Perhaps post in the QLD section of the site? Best investment you can make before buying a car in my opinion. Especially if it's a member with good knowledge of where these things rust. I am envious of how straight that hood looks though! Gawd, spent ages trying to get mine looking that good. Quote
OdinZ Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 a slab is always helpful will do, thanks Gav. the hood apparently isnt that 100% though, "Bonnet has a slight dent at the very front where a previous owner opened the bonnet onto some spotties he/she installed" Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted June 3, 2017 Author Administrators Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks I don't have that 1 accounted for. It appears to have an L28, was apparently last documented as being in WA. (now in NSW). I see 1. 260z gear knob 2. Speaker holes in rear floor deck (but probably in storage boxes - this car likely doesn't have the cheese slats in the rear). 3. Horrid choice of wheels. 4. Torn seats 5. Radio is not original for an AU market car. 6. Dash cap 7. Missing airbox 8. Smashed in nose. 9. Probably had a vinyl roof at some point There the con's. On the positive side. 1. Looks pretty dry and hardly any rust. 2. It looks relatively straight apart from bonnet being pushed in a bit (probably fixed relatively easily). 3. No sunroof 4. Mostly original (shame L24 is gone). 5,. Might have been 905 red originally? Hard to find them in this colour originally. Since they moved to 110 red later. As a side note I reckon if Nissan sold all 240z's in red they would have sold twice the amount here . You see a lot of red S30Z's but most were not that colour originally. Probably a good restoration candidate. OdinZ 1 Quote
George Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 This is the one I messaged you about Gav. Owner was considered restoring it but a flip is easier and more profitable. gav240z and OdinZ 2 Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted June 4, 2017 Author Administrators Posted June 4, 2017 Chassis number 101170 yes, but afraid also of its rust! At this price point they all have rust, which rust are you afraid of in particular? What's interesting is that the other 240z for sale on eBay right now. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z/172708880783 Is HS30 101165 so only 5 cars away from what you just bought HS30 101170. What are the chances of that? I dunno... I actually expected your car to reach at least $12k.. so thought it went a bit cheaper than expected. Quote
24 Dat Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 (edited) Just saw this 280zx 2 seater on Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nissan-Datsun-280ZX-Short-Wheelbase-2-Seater-not-a-240Z-or-260Z-/292138879160?hash=item4404d588b8:g:~GkAAOSw5cRZMkrt 280ZX Short wheelbase, 2 seater. (not one of the Winnebago 2+2s that Nissan Australia chose to inflict on local “Z” aficionados) US “Import Car Of The Year 1979” This car is 38 years old, and the closest you will ever get to a new 1979 280ZX, 2 seater. Purchased new by its one US owner in 1979, a now elderly lady who treasured it until she gave up driving early last year (cried when she handed over the keys). still has original shining paint, (slight fades on roof) looking nearly the same as it did the day it left the showroom. (purchase receipt from the dealer lists those unfortunate “muscle car” stripes and sill embellishers as added before delivery.) The car has spent it’s entire life garaged 200Ks inland from the California coast, no sun/salt damage. The dashboard has no cracks.Below the battery, acid has removed a small amount of paint. Most USA 280ZX cars have heavy rust in floors ,sills , bonnet, hatch and around the windscreen (any rust bubbles there -Run away - real fast!, This one does not have any rust! Couple of stone chips , the only ding (pictured) is behind the rear wheel arch (on the yellow stripe in the pic' of the car on trailer).and that could probably be removed by a mobile dent remover without damaging the paint. 5 speed manual transmission, cruise control, electric windows, aircon cold enough to chill beer. High back seats. One piece bumpers (with impact shocks) Side and rear louvers (the rear one IMO does not improve the look of the car -easy to remove) and best feature of all- NO T BAR ROOF! Wheel covers unfortunately, not mags. (I intended to go 17 inch anyway) Plus, unused space saver spare and factory tools. The sill embellishing covers (shown in the picture of car on trailer) have been removed to show that there is no rust under there. Refit if you like this sort of thing in 15 minutes. Factory radio (works) and 8 track tape deck (not sure if it works) 2 boxes of 8 track tapes.(weird taste here, Who, Led Zep, - plus Olivia Newton John and Barry Manilow- WOW!) Compressions 1) 170, 2)160, 3)170, 4)170, 5)160 6)165. This is definitely not the usual junkyard rubbish imported to be sold on as a “restoration project.” It is near perfect as is. I bought it with the intention to do a RHD conversion with a 3UZ Lexus V8 engine swap ;-) but have just bought a house on the water, and these cars tend to become bio-degradable if parked near salt water. Import approval papers included. 30 plus year old LHD cars can be legally registered for road use in most states, but if you have ever driven one, and got behind a bus, you will realise it is a pastime for the certifiable insane only. Included in sale; All parts to complete the RHD conversion I bought a 1982 2+2 to source all the parts needed. A nice straight car, it had won 2nd prize in a Sydney club line up a year prior, much too good to use for parts, but as it was in the price range I’d allocated for conversion bits, it had to die, It was a fuggly with a back seat. Parts; (all 1982, panels all metallic silver) RHD rack and pinion, on subframe. + resevoir, pump, pipes etc. RHD dash, ((it’s blue with a couple of small cracks-can be recoloured when recovering it) Complete RHD firewall and all the under dash parts still attached –I cut this out as one piece to use for reference as well as parts. Steering column. Instrument pod (US has better fuel gauge with 2 needle readers. But US speedo is in mph with small ring inside for kph. Easy to mix and match.) Aircon unit, Fuel tank. Full wiring harness with all relays etc. Aust spec. Inlet manifold, complete with all accessories, injectors, plus ECU etc. (US/California spec engine same as Australian spec, all the performance chokers are on the inlet and in the ECU) Exhaust manifold (looks to be the same as USA spec) Turbo bonnet (like new, totally rust free) Both front guards, minimal cut out-able rust in bottoms. Front and rear struts complete, brakes still attached (rear had old Konis, haven’t taken the front apart, but look like they might have Koni inserts as well) R200 diff, Open, not sure of the ratio (Fuggly car was auto) Driveshaft ( will be too long for a 2 seater, but can be modified to work with any engine conversion) plus both R200 type half shafts. Centre console with factory radio (works) Pair of powered side mirrors. Pair of electric window winders (should be the same as 2+0) and switches. Pair of headlight buckets with clear covers. (also have an unused, new set of clear covers bought in the States) Zenon urethane front air dam, bought in States, new, never fitted. Won’t shatter like fibreglass. Grill. Pair of late series tail lights (horizontally grooved type) PLUS- more stuff than can be shown in the 12 pic's ebay allows on listings. Boxes of bits, Clymer manual, Nissan published book on the 280ZX The last pic is of a car (not this one) minus the louvres and stripes- best Zed we NEVER saw in this country! The best part-the 3UZFE Vvt engine- is not included. Purchaser can drive home –on a permit- if there is a club meeting on the way, stop in and win the concours trophy. Inspect at Runaway Bay Queensland 4216 (Gold Coast) Will be listed for 4 weeks, best offer over $20K.will buy it. If not sold I will find somewhere away from the water to do the RHD/Lexus conversion.(Datsun lovers, your last chance to save this car from a Barbarian.) Not selling parts don’t ask. Send message to arrange inspection. If you haven’t inspected it, please don’t make silly offers. Cash on pick up . All questions answered ASAP. Edited June 5, 2017 by 24 Dat Quote
