Schneider 300F Grind Camshaft To Suit L6
Enzo replied to gav240z's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Cheers Gavin, Thanks for the goodies. Pleasure doing business with you. Belated Christmas present for myself. David. -
Why not just tidy it up with a grinder after removal and trim the rubber to match. I cut the bottom off mine because it was catching on the carpet where it bunched up and I occasionally got caught with a wide open throttle at the wrong time. Now with more clearance it's much safer. David

Schneider 300F Grind Camshaft To Suit L6
Enzo replied to gav240z's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
In my best John Wayne accent " I'll take the kit off your hands little lady". Seriously. PM me your details Gav and I will transfer the cash. Spare parts are always handy. David. -
Hi, As Lurch has mentioned, a valve may have touched a piston bending the valve. This would cause the miss. If you has access to a video probe camera, remove the spark plugs and insert the camera tube. Look for any indentation or mark on the top of the piston. This should be relatively easy as the top of the piston should not be carboned up yet. Whatever the problem I hope it's an easy fix. David.

Hi Guys, Hope everyone managed to have a safe NYE. Cool video. At the start and in the red Zed at the end the Japanese model looks like Akiko Wakabayashi. If you remember James Bond, (You only live twice with Sean Connery in 1967), she was the honey driving the Toyota 2000GT. The time line would be correct. There were some interesting ideas back then. The drop down net for the back seat passengers, a good way to get your face sliced up. The rollover didn't look too nice if you are as tall as Lurch. But I did like the enthusiasm of the Rally fan. It's amazing how modern the design of the 240z was compared to the other cars on the road at the time. David

Hello, I think that this is going to be a very welcome vehicle to arrive on the shores. Congratulations on your perseverance. From the pictures, this is the vehicle that the majority of Zed owners would like to own, but unfortunately we don't have the time, space, knowledge, patience or dollars to make that dream come true. I admire your dedication. Well done. When you are unloading the vehicle in Sydney and you see a chap with dark long hair elbowing his way to the front of the crowd with a big grin on his face, ask his name. I would bet a weeks wage that it his name is Gavin. Cheers David (Enzo)

How safe is it sending a fully restored car back to Zimbabwe, knowing the corruption in the country. Hope it all work for you in the end. When it lands in Australia you will truly be the Tong Master David (Enzo)

Great expression on the dog. " Come near my cars and I'll rip your face off" A good treble. Datsun, mini and Border Collie.

Oops, I Did It Again... 1972 Honda Cb350 Four
Enzo replied to George's topic in Off Topic Discussions
Hi George, CB350 was my first bike back in 1979. Good solid reliable bike but not too over powered for a guy getting his licence. I had a great time with mine. David. -
Hope you Guys and Gals in Melbourne are keeping your Datsuns high and dry. From what I have seen on the internet, it's not pleasant at the moment. A good day to leave the daily driver in the garage. By the way. Has anyone seen my Melbourne cup horse. I'm wondering if it has crossed the finish line yet. That was a waste of $50. Enzo

Hi Blue, If your final selection of lash pad is not thicker than 170 thou (4.25mm) the original spring retainers will be ok. If thicker than 170 thou Stewart Wilkins Motorsport can supply a spring retainer with higher sides. I got mine from him for 190 thou thick lash pads. Be careful in that, if you use high side spring retainers and they stick up higher than the lash pad when sitting on the valve, the rocker can push the spring retainer down and let the retainers pop out and dropping a valve. Regards David (Enzo)

Hi Guys, From what I understand, the OER carbs can be ordered with either Weber or Mikuni jets, but they are NOT interchangeable. As Lurch has said, the Weber jetted model would be the better way to go due to the internals being cheaper than Mikuni parts. It looks as if my questions have been answered, so thank you to all who have commented. Regards David (Enzo)

Hi Lurch, Do these 47's have the Weber jets or Mikuni. What does Les prefer or are they similar through the rev range. They do look sweet. David.

Hi Guys, Drivability, economy and affordability is what I am after. ( I really don't want much. ) I was impressed with The Green Hornet's carb setup, but I realise that a lot of time and professionalism went into having all the components working together to achieve the drivability that it has. As much as I like the idea of old school, ITB may have to be the answer. EFI make great kits, but a bit on the expensive side. Otomoto has the OER ITB kit for $2790. Jenvey also make a nice DCOE twin throttle for that triple carb look. I would prefer to deal locally when the time comes. Haltec and Motec make good electronics. Basically I want something that is user friendly that I can go shopping in one day and put on the track the next. David

Hello Guys, With the success that Les Collins Racing, PMC and Lurch have had with The Green Hornet running on 50mm Mikuni carbs, I was looking at the 47mm OER carbs which are the updated version of SK Racing carbs. The question is: Since the carbs can be ordered with either Weber style jets or Mikuni style jets, is one style better than the other. I believe that the Weber jets would be easier to purchase if rejetting was required ( which would be neccessary). Do the Weber jets and Mikuni jets have the same tunability through the rev range. Is one style better than the other for fine tuning. I will have to make the decision at some stage as to which way to go. ITB or carbs. I like the OER over the Webers due to the external adjustments. The new engine is a 2.9L with a lot of Datsun Spirit parts, Kameari, BHJ, etc. Head is fully worked with DSI .560 thou cam and oversize valves. Opinions would be appreciated. David (Enzo)
-
Thanks Lurch, Looks like I may have to reconsider carbs as the cost of EFI can get expensive. The extra money spent on getting the carbs perfect would still be cheaper in the long run and have old school appeal. Thank you for the heads up. Keep the good work coming. By the way, I was on Hybrid Z today and Tony D was telling people to get in touch with PMC in Melbourne if they wanted a 3.4 L series. Go Aussie. Cheers David.

Hi Lurch, Top end seems fantastic. What is it like to drive in traffic with the 50mm carbs. Hesitation etc, or is the flow that good that you could do the shopping in it. I have been looking at ITB with my new engine but It's always good to keep an open mind. Cheers David (Enzo)

Hi Shaun, Loctite make an excellent product for removal of rusted bolts. ( Loctite LB 8040 Freeze & Release ). It comes in an aerosol can. The freeze contracts and cracks the rust allowing the penetrating oil to wick into the cracks. Works great. Spray and let it soak in. David

Aussie Jack Miller - a challenger for Marc Marquez?
Enzo replied to PeterAllen's topic in Off Topic Discussions
Shows that the guy has talent but needs to have some patience to go with it. A race is seldom won in the first few laps. (Unless it's F1). He could have stayed in 6th position for the rest of the race and still been a hero for his great start in the wet. Now Valentino Rossi. There is a man who knows exactly how hard to push in the wet. 10th world championship is just around the corner barring any mishaps. Go Valentino. -
Datsun 240 260 Ceramic Coated Extractors / Headers
Enzo replied to 240Z_au's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Hi, These are nice headers but look like round ports. These will only be compatible with the N47 and P79 round port heads. All other heads require square port headers. Pity because they had grabbed my attention. David. -
Back in the early 80's when I was racing Avgas was sometimes hard to get so I used a mix of super fuel and Methol Benzene. Kept the engines happy. Turbo and normally aspirated. David

So your saying that Jesus did't own a 240z. Obvious that I listened to the wrong rumors.

It's not a case of serious wear, it's any wear. As the original rockers mate to the original cam they create a matched wear pattern. When you change the camshaft, the wear pattern on the rockers gets transferred to the new cam. If you are lucky the wear will be negligible. Japanese steel is excellent quality. But you have to remember that the cams and rockers are 35-40 years old if they have not been replaced and that makes them an unknown quality. I always replace rockers with a new cam. But that's me. It's your engine, so the choice is yours. Happy motoring David
-
I see that there is recommended valve spring to go with the cam. Don't forget to use a new set of rockers or you will wear the cam quickly. Also use a good ZDDP additive for run-in. Just a few thoughts. David

How many times do you visit this site?
Enzo replied to George's topic in Website Feedback & Club Discussions
If I'm in the office or at home it can be half a dozen times a day for a quick browse. If I'm away with work it can be a few days between visits. "Gotta, Gotta get my Datsun fix!!!!" David
