  1. Hi, I will be away for the next 7x days. When I get back I will take some photo's . Regards David.
  2. Hi Guys, A bit over a year and a half ago when I was rebuilding my 260z I installed the alloy bumpsteer correctors to the bottom of the struts. These helped the problem of wider wheels but I still had to change to a tyre with more rounded edges instead of the Hankook Ventus K102 that I had bought at the time. This Ventus style of tyre puts more rubber on the road with it's squarer sides causing the car to track over the bumps and ruts in the road. I finally got fed up, even though it was a minor inconvenience and removed the crossmember over the weekend for redrilling. Leaving the alloy correctors installed, ment I only had to move the control arm mounting hole up 13mm. I also moved it out 4mm for a touch of negative camber. Because I only had to go up 13mm I didn't have to modify the control arm to clear the top of the crossmember. I got a wheel alignment today to correct the toe-in after the operation and couldn't believe the difference. It drives like a sports car should. You can release the steering wheel over a rough surface and the car travels straight. I would recommend this simple alteration to anyone with Bumpsteer problems. All the best to you all for 2007. David.
  3. Hi Guys, Since this thread started out about locks , I thought that I would offer a suggestion. I am a Locksmith ,and have converted my ignition lock to accept a different cylinder which is compatable with the door keys. I also converted the fuel filler cap. One key fits all. (1976 260z. Bongs old car ). Get in touch with you closest Locksmith shop if you don't like carrying extra keys. Regards David.
  4. HI Bruce, Should have said the simple way was to disconnect the tailshaft, lock on the hand brake and tighten the pinion nut. If you want to check the preload tension disconnect the half shafts then fit the spring balance to the flange. If the preload is not right refit two of the bolts in the flange and fit a screwdriver or tyre lever between the bolts to stop the diff turning. Now with a tension wrench retighten the pinion nut and recheck for preload again. Keep checking till preload correct. David
  5. Hi Bruce, The pinion nut to the diff should be tightened up to 120lb/ft (16.6 kg/m ) initially. At this point you can check the bearing preload by the spring balance method. This is described in the Haynes manual if can borrow one. Basically fit a spring balance to one of the bolt holes on the drive flange and pull. The tailshaft should be disconnected at this stage. The force required to move the flange should be between 7 and 9 lbs (3.2 to 4.2 kg ) Lock the hand brake on and go for it. If the hand brake will not hold, use a large screwdriver or tyre lever to stop the drive flange from rotating. If the tension is not between 7 and 9 lb tighten the pinion nut up in 5lb/ft (0.7kg/m ) increments till it is. Hope this helps. Regards David
  6. Hi Guys, I have to agree with RPMZ about the dyno's. They can be adjusted to give a higher reading. If you want your dyno to read higher then the other guys shop down the road you adjust it so it looks like your a whizz tuner. Dyno's are great for before and after comparisons or for checking fuel /air mixtures under load. Once you do your tuning adjustments the vehicle should be tested under the conditions you would be normally using it for. EG: road or track. Just my opinion. Have a nice day. David.
  7. HI Gav, I have been dealing with Gordon Dobie for the last month or so to sort out my triple 40mm Dellortos. Yes Gordon is retired now but has a wealth of knowledge to pass on.If you ring him leave a message and he will eventually get back to you and the same with emails. It takes time so be patient. After all he is retired. To run emission Dellortos on a Zed car Gordon makes new idle air (air bleeds ) correctors which make the carbs run better. The carbs with the suffix F,G,H,L and N after DHLA40 are the emission ones. If they have C or E they are universal performance non-emission models. If anyone is going to buy carbs individually BEWARE. Make sure the carbs have the same number stampings. Parts for Dellortos are no longer cheap these days. Gordon has quoted me . Emulsion Tubes $46 ea; idle jets $19 ea. If you have any questions get in touch with him on the following. Gordon Dobie Datsun Performance Centre 3 Elma Road Cheltenham Vic 3192. PH: 03 95535309 Email: datcar54@hotmail.com I should have mine on the Dyno in the next couple of weeks. Hope this Helps. David.

    Coilovers

Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me of the best coilovers kits available for a 260z and who supplies them in Australia. Also who has fitted them and are you happy with the value and handling chariteristics of the vehicle . Cheers David.
  9. Hi, Not sure the way you worded your question. I did the body work myself. The car is a 1976 260z. It's Bongs old car. I know what your thinking. What a waste. The body was good but mechanically it needed a lot of work. I was originally just going to fit the kit but ended up rebuilding the motor, brakes, differential, new radiator ,all rubber suspension bushes, etc. Regards David.
  10. Hi, I wanted to keep the Datsun look above the window line and keep the extra window for better vision. This is a modified 250 GTO fibreglass body. Since this photo I have fitted original datsun badges and made my own stickers for the front guards. (Aussie Z car). The Perspex scoops gather cool air and vent through the 280zx grills behind. This car had bad vapour locks when I bought it.Cheers.
  11. Hi Guys, I have the same mags on my car. 16x8 inch from OZ Wheels in Sydney. 3 Piece made to my specs. He casts the centre to whatever offset you want. Cheers.
  12. hi, I fitted 300mm drilled and slotted rotors with calipers and all of the fittings including hoses, new bearings etc. i got them from Hopper Stoppers in Melbourne in a Datsun kit, cost $1,200 . Only extra thing i had to change was the master cylinder to a 1 inch diameter.David.
  13. Hi, Any electric fuel pump will do as long as you use a fuel pressure regulator. Hitashi/su and Dellorto and Webers don't like more than 3 PSI. The trick is high volume ,low pressure so your not forcing fuel past the needle and seats.
  14. Hi, looks like your on the money. Different from the one on my 1976 260z but i would say that's it. Check for corrosion on the connections and when the motor is running put your finger on it to check for heat. if too hot it means the connection is faulty. Good luck.
  15. fusable links can be ordered from Nissan or made cheaper by an auto electrician. If your car has the originals still connected they should be replaced. David.
  16. Thanks for the reply Ash. I'll try Gordon Dobie. Regards David.
  17. HI Guys, Can anyone offer a good suggestion for jetting on a set of triple 40mm dellortos on a 2.6 litre zed with a 30/70 cam and a E88 head that has been ported. Thanks David.
