  1. At 1.24 the exhaust is nearly dragging on the floor when they tell you how great it is. Also check the drivers seat belts at the top of the seat when driving on track. More likely to cut his head off if he prangs it. Great to see how happy (and amazed) they are that a lightweight car with triple carbs is quicker than a factory car. Call me negative. But what a load of shite.
  2. Cozza. Well said and spot on. Mixture adjusting screws for idle. If you don't have the correct needles for your engine, it can never be perfect.
  3. Hey Gong, Wrong link on the 260z.
  4. Cool, Just felt like I had hopped into the DeLorean and gone back in time. Great to see the different cars going hard at it. The variety of car makes it exciting. Thanks for that. Thumbs up.
  5. I just looked on ebay. $21.99 for 5x plugs and $14.00 USPS postage. Total of $35.99 USD. So less than $50 AUD. A lot less time and effort expended to just buy online. That's my 2 cents worth. David.
  6. SU style carbs only need between 1.5 and 3.5psi to operate efficiently. The higher pressure may have damaged the needle and seat allowing fuel to push past it which would account for the lower pressure you are getting now and causing the engine to overfuel. Put a pressure regulator on it set to 2.5psi and replace your needles and seats. Also make sure you have the return line plumbed in. By the way: You were having fuel pump problems on Classic Z Car Club back in November 2014 when it was recommended to you to get a Mazda RX7 pump because they run quiet. ( After 3 years I would get a better mechanic).
  7. Best disassembly / refurbish video I have ever seen. Made my shitty day so much better. First time that I have smiled today. I want more please.
  8. Finished the roller frame today for the press brake. Much easier to move around the workshop now. Well !!!!! If it's vertical it moves around easily. Can't put pictures upright. Sorry. David.

    OXY WELDING

I have to agree with you guys. I have had the Henrob for probably 14 years and the angle and proximity of the hand to the tip is too close. Mind you, I don't use the heat shield. I probably should. I like the fact that the oxy and acetylene are used at the same rate and run out at the same time. Only one trip when refilling.

"I also have the Henrob / DHC 2000 torch but find it a bit heavy." Try one of these Gav.
  11. Hi Guys, Some of the younger guys on here probably won't remember the Opec oil embargos of the early 1970's. Oil prices had been going up since about 1971 and Nissian probably looked at the world market and decided to stick with the L6 because it was a reliable fuel efficient car of the time. In 1973 Egypt and Syria launched military attacks against Israel ( Yom Kippur War ). Six days later America started supplying military aid and arms to Israel. The Arab countries didn't like this and stopped supplying oil to countries like America, Canada, Great Britain etc. (Western countries). American went through a crisis with the big V8 gas guzzlers, where service stations could only supply limited amounts of fuel per customer. The small car market started to take off. European and Japanese cars became more popular. It was probably advantageous to Nissan to stick with the smaller engine till things settled down. By 1974 the oil crisis was over and the Scarabs with the V8 engines became popular in 1976. I have attached an oil price graph. I have vague memories of fuel in Australia at the time being available to cars on an odd and even basis going on the last number on the number plate. (Odds one day, Even the next). If you ran out, hard bickies.
  12. Let me guess Lurch. You got " Coal " because you always wanted to run someone over with a train.
  13. Hi Folks, Hope Santa was good to you all this season. I decided for 2018 to extractum digitum (Latin) and start work on my 280zx which needs some rust panels and sections replaced. Santa was good and has delivered a 3 in 1 Pressbrake, Guillotine and Rollers. It's only a small unit , but should be fine for all of those fiddly jobs and save time. Now I just need to clean the shed to have some working room. All the best for 2018 Guys and Gals. May the year be a great one for you. Regards David.

  15. Well said. Whatever happed to Peace and Harmony at this time of year.
  16. Hi, I have no experience with MSD blaster coils but if you are running breaker points in the distributor you need to use a ballast resistor. The Ballast resistor limits the amperage or current flow to the coil while the engine is running, which extends the life of the coil and breaker points of the dizzy. When the key is on the start position full current is run to the coil and this increases voltage to the plugs for a better start. Once the engine starts and the key goes back to the on position current is diverted through the ballast resistor which lowers the current (voltage) to prolong the life of the points and coil. I have a 1976 260z and still use the ballast resistor with a Bosch GT40R coil and Crane XR700 instead of points. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas. David.
  17. Hey Grandad, Your supposed to be going for your Grand child. They don't look like snow boots to me. Or the special Sparco snow gloves. Have a great time. Regards David
  18. 1976 260z RHD electrical diagram. I can't remember were I got it, so unfortunately can't pass on the credit.
  19. Hi Peter, Resistor will get hot. This is normal. Your wiring may have been modified. If it's working leave it alone. I will see if I can put a picture of the 1976 RHD wiring diagram up.
  20. Hello Peter, My wiring is a bit different than yours. 1976 260z RHD wiring diagram. Green/White goes to the resister. Black/White goes to the other end of the resister ( This is the one that has power when the key is in the on position) Second Black/white goes to positive + on the coil. The XR700 is as you have it in the diagram. David.
  21. Hi Peter, I have had a crane XR700 on my car since 2004. I always keep the points and condenser in the glove compartment as spares just in case. (It's an easy swap out). Always remember with the XR700 to use the coil resistor or it will burn out. The XR7000 can be used without the resistor. Happy motoring David.
  22. Definitely old school but still relevant. I used to use STP on all my engines during assembly back when I was a mechanic in the late 70's and early 80's. Nice and tacky. Especially great in oil pumps. I still use it today on the rare occasion of engine assemblies. David.
  23. Just a thought but if the harmonic balancer is old the outer ring can slip on the rubber and move the timing mark. This could account for the high initial timing. David.
