Administrators gav240z Posted July 23, 2014 Administrators Posted July 23, 2014 Fairlady Z Club of France. I like seeing how different regions have different styles in their builds of S30Z's. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 23, 2014 Administrators Posted July 23, 2014 Check this out... I was looking up Evan Green after watching that Shannons Interview with Alan Moffat again and i noticed at 1:50 min mark there is an S30z in the background. But what is interesting is the fender mirrors! Which shows our AU market cars did get the Japanese Market style bullet mirrors. I was never quite sure if these were original or retrofitted in later years by owners. But given the age of this footage it would appear we did receive that style of mirror. Quote

Gav Maybe, but it is also possible that the car in footage is a JDM spec evaluation unit or the mirrors were fitted locally. I know that car companies these days use early evaluation cars that are close to AU spec but not always exactly the same. Just my 2 cents worth PB Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 24, 2014 Administrators Posted July 24, 2014 That's true, they could have been retrofitted in place of the Australian style flat ones. So can't assume anything I suppose. Another thing is you can see there is no side indicator on the front fender so it's likely an early 240z . Quote
NEW240 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi Gav I have no 51 (still to be Restored) with all original panels, the gaurds actually have the holes for the mirrors but had grommets so I am guessing the mirrors may have been an option at the time. I did purchase a set of genuine matt black bullet mirrors from Warren Potter a long time ago for the project. Vince. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 24, 2014 Administrators Posted July 24, 2014 Vince I'd love to see #51 at some stage. Sounds like a good project. Here is another random video I found. I have no idea what's going on, but found it entertaining. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 14, 2014 Administrators Posted August 14, 2014 Seems to me he liked the 240z more in terms of fun and feel than the 370z aka Fatlady Z . That's why I love these cars so much, just pure fun without all those modern distractions to get in the way. Quote
74zzz Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 this video started my zed obsession, after lusting after my dream car of a 250 gto i settled on the mighty datsun s30...... just found this 8 years after the original video i watched hundreds of times was deleted from youtube. PeterAllen Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 .. after lusting after my dream car of a 250 gto i settled on the mighty datsun s30..... You could have had both. edit - photo removed. Quote
74zzz Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 haha one of the reasons i settled on the zed as i knew you could buy these kits however have now grown to appreciate the car in its own right and racing history and couldnt do it to an already great looking car:) I found out about the kits after watching tom cruise drive a replica in vanilla sky in 2001 and thought yep I need to buy a zed:) Quote
peter t Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Good to see colour on your car Peter and plates. Quote

Riceburner Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Looks like the full edit of an old 'best motoring' video that used to do the rounds. Was on you tube but was pulled down for copy right breaches, I believe they no longer exist. How stiff are the springs, shocks and bars on this. There's no dive under braking, no body roll, looks a tiny bit tail happy under heavy braking but that could just be the master at work. I'd love to see detailed specs on this. I believe it now runs a G-nose with type B spoiler on the front. Cool Video Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 29, 2014 Administrators Posted August 29, 2014 Looks even better with the Gnose on it. Quote

Thats John Roxburgh, Driver for the factory supported Datsun Racing Team. He also owned a Datsun dealership. Interview was most likely at said dealership. So it stands to reason that was a 240z that was available for sale. Quote
HS30-H Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I visited Spirit Garage a few years ago (is it really 10 years...?) as I had been buying some parts from owner Itagaki san. A really nice bloke. Made me sit in the car and push the brake pedal. He was really proud of how high and hard his unservoed brake pedal was. I can confirm that it was indeed.... A really great package, that car. Not completely to my taste, but beautifully put together and by all accounts a great drive. Tsuchiya really, really raved about it. He said he enjoyed driving it so much he wanted to cry. Quote
74zzz Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Did he mention what kind of hp he got from it? I am totally amazed what the japs can get out of the l series. Seen some on youtube pushing 450. Quote
C.A.R. Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 They are NOT making anywhere near 450hp! It'd be lucky to have 300... Quote
74zzz Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 is it possible at the flywheel then? my Japanese is non existent so not sure what im reading Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 30, 2014 Administrators Posted August 30, 2014 Barn find Silver 1970 240z. HLS30 (U) - 00504 - not the 504 made, but the 504th made North American market car. I hate to nitpick, but every time someone parrots this same nonsense completely ignoring the other markets I feel like a sad panda inside. Quote
