HLS30 00089 appears on a show called Garage Squad.

I hope they don't 'tart' it up and keep it period as possible.

Well after watching that I really don't know what I expected.

It could have been far worse, but honestly to call that a 432 replica. Well I don't know.... These shows are always the same formula, go around throw around big ideas, do some brand whoring of particular part suppliers and then do a little before and after. That front air damn and the whole "432-R" look was so off-key it made me a little sad. Mainly because there will be a bunch of kids installing said parts on their 240z's and calling them 432s now.... without understanding what a 432 or 432-R really is.

I was glad they made some effort to get it back to original in the interior. Nothing irreversible in the body work.

Awesome, I'm still thinking of making my gold car a bit of a rat rod to begin with, until I get it all sorted mechanically etc... Then I'll finally paint it properly :)

The "Ratsun" fantatic name.

Honestly it went like this:

"Hey wow, that's an early Z car number 89".

"Some guy pretends to know something about 432 and 432-R's".

"YO DAWG I heard you like Carbon Fiber, We can do a carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber bumpers, carbon fiber air-dam".

"Your interior looks horrible dawg, so we hooked you up with some new interior trim and seat covers".

"Let's cut the original OEM exhaust off the car and put a magnaflow unit on it".

"Lets install petronix ignition, and remove your toilet paper oil filter".

Now cut and polish original Safari Gold paint.

Put 16" 'non period correct rims' on it, they look like retarded offset watanabe wheels.

Take the car for a thrashing around the block, then do a quick (blink and you'll miss it) before and after. Wind up segment.

I think it upset me that they said it was anything like the 432 or 432-R. I would have been ok if they said they wanted to make it a tribute in some way to the 432-R by making it light and adding carbon fiber, but no they made out like they were building a replica.

More nonsense that didn't add up.

1. Guy is a motorcycle mechanic, yet never changed the oil or filter on his Z? I don't for a second believe the toilet paper oil filter was fitted to that car, seems like something they made up for the show to create a bit of 'sauciness'.

2. It was placed in the workshop with a wheel off as if to say he had abandoned the project and left it like that. Don't think so mate.

3. They worried about preserving a set of spark plug leads, but didn't care about destroying the originality of the car in other ways.

4. They perpetuated further myths about S30z's. Like early cars had different offset requirements on their wheels, the 432-R is just a carbon bonnet (didn't even mention the unique engine).

5. There was hardly any before and after shots of the car. It was very difficult to see if they actually made any improvements in the end.

Overall watching it made me somewhat mad.

I have seen this somewhere, and must say don't waste the time.

Typical uniformed crap show.

Just watched it... "meh" trust me it could have been ALOT worse than that.

The rims looked to be Enkei classic 'comp' wheels. The first set was the same, just in a better offset. They arn't too bad.

The exhaust was 'meh'. i think it would have looked better with some tips on it, and at least the body kit was nice enough.

The toilet roll thing was a crock of shiver, when they showed it on the car, you could see the blue oil filter screwed into the block in the background.

Getting a oil filter relocation kit is a pain in the rear end and expensive, why go to all that trouble instead of buying a new filter, total bollocks.

Do you want to know how it could have been worse, there was a show called car warriors, along time ago.... it is by far the worst show ever put on television, they did a Datsun 240z, i cant find the full episode on youtube, but i did find a snippet of the episode. Im sure you can torrent it somewhere if you really want to.

Anyway... here you go look how this 240z got butchered:

There are some things better left unseen  :(

I just downloaded and watched the full episode of Garage Squad "Disheveled Datsun"... Downloaded in less than 2 minutes. :D The new internet service is paying off. :D

Uhg, misinformation galore.

Last I checked the spark wires fit from '70 to '83 (or more years), not one year only like they claim.

The early cars were not any different from later versions where wheel fitment is concerned. Their problem is that they went too wide with the wrong offset, but no, lets blame it on the car. *facepalm*

Rear window louvers were dealer options, not factory options.

This is the first show, or source where I've heard of the "first 100 being promotional vehicles". I'd like to know their source for that.

The AC was not an issue of being an early car and interfering with the new air dam, it was a dealer installed item and later cars would have been the same. *facepalm*

That timing advance plate from the distributor didn't look "seized solid" to me, when it clearly moved separate from the other plate. "facepalm*

The whole cornering too hard and bend the roof thing just makes me shake my head. I'm not saying that the strut tower braces are not a good idea, but don't make them out to be a miracle item that it's not.

"Went through all the trouble to remove the exhaust in one piece" really? how else would you do it? It's welded solid and the easiest way is to remove it in one piece... *facepalm*

The muffler looks like shit on there. The tips, or muffler outlets are spaced too far apart.

What's with this "deadline" stuff? Why is there a deadline? Just to add drama? The show would be better without.

The car ended up looking nice in the end, but is in no way a "dead ringer" for a 432. They should have also addressed the suspension, due to the rear end squatting issue. New springs would have helped here. The car probably needs new strut inserts as well.

It seems that if it can't be bolted on easily, the "Garage Squad" doesn't do it.

I hate shows like this, they make things seem far more difficult than they are for no reason, and add more drama than is necessary.

And that, combined with ignorant viewers is how you ratings and advertising income.
