Six_Shooter Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Thanks for the link. They found a Z that needed no body work - amazing. Also, different starters between Auto & Manual ? I'd have told the host to pound salt when he came up with that initial price and the reason behind it. I did my manual swap, for less than $600 IIRC, and took me all of about 6 hours total working on jack stands. It's not costly, nor difficult. Also the starters are not different between manual and auto. I used my auto starter with the manual transmission. Or, let me put it this way, they may be listed as different, but they are interchangeable. I wonder if they changed the dizzy, since they are different between auto and manual. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 4, 2015 Administrators Posted May 4, 2015 The whole episode was a bit disappointing, at least they didn't try to give too much of a history lesson. The whole camshaft swap glossed over lash pads and rocker arm geometry. I'm guessing maybe the grind didn't require a change in lash pads here? But if the cam was well worn surely the rockers and lash pads were also? I think they considered triples but realised how expensive they were... I would have preferred he went for the original hubcaps and he really low-balled the guy when buying the car it must be said. Especially if it really was rust free... Quote
24TZ Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Some nice OS motors here! A bit of japanese talking to listen to but worth the wait to hear them revving. Video ends with all 3 cars chasing each other on the freeway. Gotta love japan. He also has a few other video the 240 on the dyno and street hot laps. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2015 Administrators Posted July 5, 2015 A great example of what can be hiding under all that paint, you can see the rear 1/4 panels on this are shagged pretty good, definitely a lot of bog in that region. Quote

The bottom edges are certainly a mess, but the rest of the car looks pretty good. Why not strip the whole 1/4 panel Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2015 Administrators Posted July 5, 2015 In the video description. 73 Datsun 240Z On this car you can see not 100% of the paint came off. This can happen when newer base / clear paint jobs have been used on a vehicle or parts. What you do see is the all of the most difficult areas to clean are 100% clean. Quick use of a DA will easily remove this last bit of paint as you begin the prep process for epoxy primer. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted July 5, 2015 Moderators Posted July 5, 2015 In the video description. Oh, that will learn me to listen as well as look. didn't want to disturb the family's TV Quote
CroS13 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 260z brake failure, Jump, roll and fire at race track. Speaker warning, you will want to turn up the speakers to hear him racing, but its really loud when he hits the embankment at the end of the straight. Packing bricks when the engine goes up in flames as your trying to get out! Rudi Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted July 18, 2015 Administrators Posted July 18, 2015 Bless him, he thinks the hatch slam panel will be the 'worst' rust on the car. . Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 18, 2015 Administrators Posted July 18, 2015 Lol ! Just watched it, nfi. Well good on him for giving it a red hot go, for sure. But I had to chuckle when he said it was pretty rust free, then proceeded to find out there was lots of bog hiding under his paint. As I say bless him, ignorance is bliss. I wish him well and hope he doesn't give up. Quote
CroS13 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Good on him for having a go.... Pro tip..... if your spending 11 seconds doing each plug weld like he did.... your doing it wrong. I was thinking what he hell was he doing..... when it dawned on me i was like...... oh......... Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted July 18, 2015 Moderators Posted July 18, 2015 Got to admire his enthusiasm, hopefully as the full extent of the rust problems become apparant he will not lose the drive to complete it. Quote
