Mmmm

Timing on registration... won't put that in writing.

Need tyres, exhaust, battery, and a trip to M.I.A Engines to have a wiring problem resolved, that is the bit where the electric dizzy talks to the Tacho. One or two more things then it'll.

Enquired yesterday about rego, so psychologically I am very near.

that's pretty dam close.......

Should be ready for an Autumn blue mounts cruise me thinks  ;D.

Do you have any pics of the underside transmission tunnel by any chance? I'm trying to figure out a way to reduce the heat that radiates from the headers through the floor and into the cabin........I'm on a mission to make my car comfortable atm.

Hi there. Have not done anything on that front with my car as yet, but I know there is some excellent heat shielding you can use these days. Perhaps Dynamat on the inside of the car, and use some of the OEM heat shielding that BMW's have, that is a crinkle looking Aluminium shield material.

Should be able to make it cooler inside. I remember that i used to slowly cook in my old 240z, suspect this one will more of a 'fast cook'.

Dynamat turns vibration into heat so it will only add. A metal heat shield shaped to the body and spaced out about 10mm would be the trick.

A mate did the custom heat shield thing on his turbo RX3 a few years back with great results.

Ok Ladies ..

4yrs 4mths and the Hornet has returned home. Still needs an exhaust and then its off to MIA Engineering to get started. I literally could NOT believe how nice it looks, and the attention to detail that Nat has undertaken is phenomenal. I love the wheels and tyres too, but she needs about 1" less height in my opinion.

I broke the 'T' junction between the fuel filler pipe and breather tube while fiddling about thisafternoon. Does anybody kwow where I can get a new one of these? Its a while / translucent plastic 'T' with abotu 3/4" ends (2x) and about 1/4" going to the fuel breather tube.

Thoughts on the car?? It looks unbelievable in my view!

About bloody time....

Good to see, will be a big day when you fire it up Adam, though 4 years isn't too bad, my chugger is up to 13 years and counting.

Adam that colour looks great out and in the sun. Great choice, the colour of the body and the silver of the panasports and bright work....all just work so well together

Cheers

Mike

PS looks like stand front calipers I spy....no mk63 or light covers that made their way over the pond......what must be almost 3 years ago now.

Hello MIKE!!

Yes mate, still the standards, but I have the Mk63's in a box that i had fully re-built and assembled. I will have them installed when i take it to MIA, or may have a crack at it myself.

Actually, on the t piece, thought I might be able to use some gardening irrigation joiners if I can't get an OEM one.

The car is just superb and I am SO happy!. Just can't wait to get her going and go and smoke a few 911's!

Thoughts.....smashing. Perfect in every way!

Adam, without being judgemental I cant beleive its been this close to finished for so long. Possibly life and other things getting in your way but the first time you drive it ....it will all seem worthwhile.

Looks great Adam, congrats on a beautiful car.

I agree, it could do with sitting a little lower. What springs are you using?

I have recently installed the Kings low springs in my 240, which in my opinion sits good at the back but the front sits about an inch to high.

Wow, all the crew are still here live and well!! Great to hear from you chaps, Lurch, Peter, Zedman, Katokid, Sirpent, Mossy, Mike and so on.

The car has i think the lowered yellow King Springs that from memory are new. Reason I know this is they are yellow and when I bought the car and they had little paper stickers on them. Suspect I will take the car to East Coaast Suspension or similar in Sydney to get them to set her up right once its actually going.

Need obviously to be cautious not to go too low, but just enough to tighten things up a little.

Here a few cars that I think have got the ride height, PERFECT...Again, to me Jimmy Flett (orange Zed) has just nailed the setting perfectly! I think he's using slightly cut King Springs and 5 way Tokico Illumina's in this shot

Hi Adam,

Congratulations on getting closer to coming for a drive to the pub at Mt. Vic.

Drive the car and then work out what you don't like. I have played around with ride height and different brands of dampers and now have a perfect combination. Everyone wants something different so drive it and see how it feels.

It has been awhile since we caught up so I have attached an image of what I find pleasing, could probably drop an inch but the car became very harsh as there was bugger all travel left.

Can't wait to see this thing.

Again, congratulations.

Cheers,

Aaron

Ok guys.

Some anorak questions, and the need for some tricky parts....

Here goes;

1) aside from rear tail lights, and rear number plate light, are they any other wires needed in the wiring loom of a 71 zed? Of course, the rear demist wires are there, but appear to come through alongside the interior overhead light. In my loom, I have two spare wires sitting off the main loom just behind the spare wheel well .. have NO IDEA what these might be needed for. Only thing I could think of is to wire up the lights for a trailer. I believe my car MAY have at one stage had a tow bar as there was some unusual holes in the rear deck either side of the spare tyre well (now loing gone though).

2) is there a interior door grab handle (the one on the angle) ONLY on the passenger side in the RHD cars?

3) Did Australian cars have a seat belt hanger hook on the side of the seat back, OR was this small plastic 'J' shaped hook screwed into the side of the the car, behind the door? I have the hook and screws, but am unsure where to install them, as I have seen this hook both on seat back, AND on the frame behind the door.

4) what OEM olour was the spare wheel, Black, or Silver frost?

5) was there a radiator overflow bottle fitted on the 71Z?

6) Does anybody have; a) an OEM 240Z wheel jack ( I have tools, but no jack), b) the little plastic covers that slip over the seat fore/aft adjustment handles, and c) a genuine masonite spare wheel well cover?

Thanks Folks.

Adam

I believe the extra wires in the rear loom may be for electric fuel pump that was fitted in other markets.

I'm pretty sure there was no overflow bottle as the Zeds weren't a pressure recovery system, just an overflow hose down the side of the radiator.

And that's all I can help with Adam.
