don't fear this happens all the time, so many Weber manifolds and different lengths some don't fit and some you need to make fit, Nat knows his stuff if he needs to hit them its fine it wont hurt

Agreed - had to the do the same on a set of Kakimoto Racing headers I had on the old red 240z.

Thank God lads, between your comments and Nat's i'm certain everything will be OK..

One question I did ask was if we can still fit a heat shield under the carbs. Nat was not certain on this, but did suggest we will be able to make it work somehow, I'll go with that! Can report a mate with a Lotus 7 told me that the ceramic coating on his extractors made a massive difference to in-car temperatures after he had the coating added. Told me that the C-coating was a no-brainer to performance and in car temps and that it'd make a huge difference, for what it's worth!

Cheers

Cost to get the headers coated inside and out was $350. As per the balance of the system, I will not worry about coating that as the bulk of the work is done in the header. Having said that, Nat had a triumph Stag show car that has a fully coated system front to back. Suspect you can add another few hundred $ for that.

Took these photos today....

It actually looks pretty brutal under the bonnet, should be good for a fast run on Sunday mornings, not to mention humiliate a few of the local Boxster owners.

Only a few weeks off and it'll be a driver!

Adam.

looking good there mate, you might want to consider fitting a heatsheild to the webers ;)

the setup does look good. Heatsheild normally helps but the ceramic coating also helps a lot with exhaust temps

Thanks Gents,

yes take the point re heat shield. Nat has some heat shielding he took off a modern BMW that we will use under the floor of the car, and for the carby's we'll have to think hard as there is literally no room between carbs and extractors. Notwishtanding, we will make something work. Have heard that the ceramic coating does make a huge positive impact on things. James also said the vented bonnet really helps here too.

Just on another note, this is a mates car that i'll taking for a spin tomorrow. 75 2.7 Carrera, aka 73 RS with bumpers!!!

Top work Adam, looking foward to seeing it finished. So guy's whats the hot ticket with building a heat sheild? use the good ACL sheeting and hang it off the thick washers that go between the inlet manifold and the extractors?

Hey Adam, looks nice, will have to come and see it in the flesh soon once it is running. Can I ask you to post a pic or link to pic of the SW headers as I had a look back and could not find them. Just wanted to see what they look like. Cheers.

Thanks Boys,

Gareth, yes I will definitely post a start up video, but I think that will be relatively uneventful as I'll just turn her over I guess. Brabham, have a look at page 28 of my post, as that is where I have the more in depth photos of the headers.

Cheers

Hi Adam,

After stumbling across Nat's work shop trying to find someone with patients to have work done to my car I saw yours tucked neatly away in the shop.

OMFG I found your build thread tonight have went through every page.

Somehow I feel like saying thank you for sticking with your car and build as these things are never easy.

I hope all is well with your home build and family.

Wish you all the best and that you are able to pick up your car soon. If you ever need moral support please let me know and I will come with white hand gloves and hair net just to chat in front of your car ; ).

Cheers,

William.

P.S Nat is way in Europe for 3 weeks.

Thanks William,

Appreciate the feedback, and am glad you not only found Nat, but saw the Hornet. Have not personally seen the the car, or been to Gladesville Auto Body Works since about November last year for a bunch of reasons, most notably that three kids under 5 is more work than I expected. I still think it'll be a very cool moment the first time I twist the key in that thing and go for a spin.

Thanks again, and best of luck with your project. I can highly recommend Nat.

Rgds

got some interesting news ...

Bought a new house that as ... um... a SIX car garage in it!! Won't be moving in much before December but suspect that once I do, Nat will be losing his garage filler.

On another note, a mate sent his Son over to Nat to look for a job... he saw the Hornet and reported that he absolutely loves the colour.

Getting pretty excited now Folks, its only been 4.5 YEARS since I started this thread!

Suspect wait will be worth it however.

Adam,

I have a four car garage under my house, and no Z  :(, well not yet. ;D

You will manage to fill it in no time.

Nothing like having the space.

Enjoy.
