Do not do it. As Gav said, start with a cleaner base.

 

In the long run it is cheaper to buy finished car tho but not as fun, unless you are really handy with tools that is.

 

Me and my step brother have a complete 2+2 that is way better than the one you are looking at and a mint shell to suit. PM me. I might be able to convince my step brother to part with them.

 

 

thanks Iceberg, I did get a few more photos from the guy but yeah its hard to judge and given its a 9 hour drive not something i could do over night... but i really don't want something i can just jump into and go... like i said i want something i can restore with the old man, so minor rust would be preferred but defiantly not after a full restored one

... so many of these rusty bodies for sale lately.. I would actually like to see how much car was left after the sand blaster has taken to them.

Look at HS30 00019 and that will give you an idea I'd say. The difference is that #19 is worth saving. This 2+2 you would be lucky to get half the money you invest in it back should you sell it.

This was kept in country vic and was going to be used for parts however the owner decided to sell it rather then parting it. I had a quick look at it in person and the body looks rough but the interior isn't terrible, frame rails look solid, no rust in drivers floor pan. It's actually a fair bit better then what it looks like.

 

Would be a fair bit of work but I reckon if someone was wanting a cheap starting point and willing to put in time and money (lots) it could be doable

 

 

Looks like it was kept pretty dry until recently as the floor pans had water sitting in them but were still solid, I tried to get the drain plug out to save them but wasn't able to.

 

I do think the numberplate is fitting though..

That is more than a "fair" bit of work. Thats just the rust you see strip it back and it will be shot. Honestly if you where looking for a 2+2 and wanted to start cheap this would not be for you save another $2000 - $5000 and get yourself a good base to start with.

I completely agree. For the amount of rust spots you can see, just multiply that by about 10 by the time you actually start working on the car.

 

Don't get me wrong, any car can be repaired however you will need to know how to form your own repair panels if you want to save money on this one, because about 60-70% of the body will need to be replaced.

Quick comparison of the metal I removed from the lower corner of my rear hatch and the thickness of the metal I replaced it with.

You can see at the bottom of the hatch the gauge of metal is very very thin, add in 40+ years of corrosion and what's left is pitted and very weak...

 

The bonnet on that black car is toast and that's a panel high up on the body, unlikely to retain much water compared with lower sills, floors, rear hatch etc..

 

You might be able to replace most of the external panels with better examples but it's the overall body structure that would concern me most.

OWN THIS CLASSIC Selling a fantastic example of the classic Japanese sports car. I've owned the car since 2011 and has always been in a well maintained, registered state. This is the much desired 2 seater model still using the original L26 engine. Engine was overhauled 5,000kms ago and is fitted with an aggressive camshaft, tubular headers and triple 40DCOE Webers. Cooling is done by an aluminium radiator with a thermo fan.The 5 speed transmission was also freshened up with new bearings. Vehicle is fitted with new 15 x 8 Performance Superlite wheels with new tyres. Also fitted with 4 piston Toyota Hilux brake calipers with ventilated discs. This car is slightly lowered with King spings. The paint and body is in very good condition with no sunroof ever fitted. Shows evidence of past repairs that are faring well. Other signs of corrosion have been thoroughly fish oiled whilst in my possession. Vehicle is also fitted with a fiberglass chin spoiler. As for the interior, the dash board is typically cracked under the dash mat otherwise OK with all the gauges functioning. The center console is functional though in a poor state. Has the original steering wheel in great condition as is the rest of the interior trim with no cracks in plastic liners. Other modifications include ADR approved SAAS sports seats with ADR approved RPM 4 point harnesses and 1KG fire extinguisher . For added safety a bolt in aluminium Brown Davis haft cage is fitted which does not hinder the usability of the vehicle. Includes spares such as, standard brake calipers/discs, standard 14" wheels, seat belts and other miscellaneous items. Vehicle is located in Batemans Bay about 3.5 hours south of Sydney and 2 hours from Canberra. Vehicle in currently on a non transferable historic rego so for NSW buyers I can include a Blue Slip inspection certificate.

Wasn't there a british racing green on some Z's

907 Green on early 70-71 240z's is close to a British racing green colour. This 260z is a metallic green. I would need to look up the code.

 

It is a later colour and car. I like the colour also reminds me of a 260z 2+2 I test drove in Williamstown many years ago. It needed rust repair work but was a nice car.

 

I decided to keep my 260z at the time.

Has 'chassis alignment issues' according to someone I know in Sydney who went & looked at it.

If you got it for its current Ebay price of about $20k, I would think it would be great value !!, but reality is, he has it on Car Sales.com for Just under $40k, so I reckon you need to be thinking he would be wanting closer to $40k than $20k !!, and at $40k I would want something a lot more original. That's my thoughts !!

Thanks Mark, that's a good observation, the seller has indicated that 36k would buy the car. I certainly would find a more original car more attractive though.
