ScottyB Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Not surprisingly, this sold today. Factory 260z mirrors are the same as 240z mirrors. Reasonably priced 260Z coupe. $18,000 https://www.facebook.com/groups/downunderdatsuns/permalink/1214638348555427/ Makes that $12,500 full resto required 260z in the for sale section look waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. ScottyB Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Wouldn't surprise me. I was in the market for something just like that recently - many others still are. Quote

Ferrari 250 GTO replica built on a Datsun 240Z chassis. Project near completed but regrettable sale due to changing circumstances. Disc brakes on all 4 wire wheels with new tyres , 3.5lt V8 motor. Long nose LS differential. Italian leather trim. Designed to except dual exhaust. Genuine Ferrari tail lights and badgeing. Things to be completed : back window, exhaust system, wiring, fit completed dashboard, carpet and seats. Please; only serious people inquire. I have not the time or patience for dreamers. A lack of engineering certificate will most likely scare a few people off.It might be tricky to get an engineer to approve an almost finished vehicle, especially with custom suspension arms, most prefer to work with you during the build - just a thought. That aside it looks like value. A lot of good gear has gone into building it. Quote
ScottyB Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I just missed this when I was looking only a few months ago from on this site. New owner change of mind maybe? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 15, 2016 Author Administrators Posted July 15, 2016 So anyone want an FD RX-7? I'm not 100% positive but I think Sulio owned this car at 1 point and it was pretty damn original too! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/gallery/album/50-2006-photos-another-z-in-the-garage/ He sold it to a guy named Nathan Chassis under Nathan's profile signature says. 73 Datsun 240z HS30-103638 Quote
Riceburner Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 It says the passenger floor has been cut out but the pics show it in place and appearing good..... rust? I has plenty of high dollar parts though! Quote
ScottyD Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) in relation to the floor i think he means it had rust in the floor so he cut it out and now it needs the floor panel supplied welded in.? Edited July 15, 2016 by ScottyD Quote
Riceburner Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Ok. Aside from the engineering question this looks like a great buy. Fit and finish of mechanicals look oh so nice Quote
Dionysus Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) 29k for the amount spent seems too cheap, something has to be up with it. Will need another 3k for ecu and tune. Edited July 15, 2016 by Dionysus Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted July 16, 2016 Author Administrators Posted July 16, 2016 Mark I'm not 100% sure it is Sulio's old car but for some reason I think it is. Sulio bought it off a friend who had pulled it apart and had it painted but lost interest and didn't put it back together. He bought it off him after pestering him with cash offers until he gave in and sold it. Can't recall what he paid for it now but Sulio put it back together and sold it on. I would estimate another 12k has to go into it to get it engineered and on the road. mossy 1 Quote
Agno Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 I am 99% certain this belongs to user 510psi, it was looking great when I saw it last. The owner is an engineer working at a local car company and it has been done very well... Quote

Originally purchased the car from Nate late last year, and I've included a couple of pics of how it looked then. and Ha looks nice, thats my old Z. I sold it to Nate in the condition you have it in the first pic, pretty much the factory stock look and I don't think he ever got time to touch it but he did take off overseas and sold it then from memory!? Looking really good, I was wondering where this thread got to as someone sent me a PM the other day asking about this car as they saw it in my gallery. I could'nt find this thread at the time but I'll keep a tab on it from here in to follow the progress. Thanks for the update, Cheers, Sulio So it's the same car alright.. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted July 16, 2016 Author Administrators Posted July 16, 2016 Some very solid forensics there Gav - Well Done Well Agno's comment helped me look up p510psi's posts. I make a habit now of recording chassis IDs and photos of said cars for future reference. This is also why I don't delete classified ads. They have made the Early Girl Bingo thread much easier to compile. Quote
chris240 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Hey , whatever happened to Sulio, is he still in the "car" scene ? Had a few terrific trips trips to Thredbo with him in the zeds. I know that Sulio shot heaps of great footage of the last trip to Thredbo with all the zeds, but that rare footage has yet to surface... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 17, 2016 Author Administrators Posted July 17, 2016 Sulio is around, he was looking to get another S30Z but the traitor found an SC 911 I think and is rebuilding it. He is importing a motor I think. Bought it as a shell off a friend who had an unfinished project. Quote
RB26DETT Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 1971 240z project car QLD $10,000 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/palm-beach/cars-vans-utes/datsun-240z-for-sale/1118916939 So you know how it is - there are countless stories about guys buying what look like solid cars only to find out they have more rust than the Titanic. That's normally the time the enthusiasm drops and the project stumbles before it really starts. So here we have a 1971 Datto 240Z (HS30-01510) that's as naked as a car gets with nothing to hide. Make no mistake about it, this is a project car that needs full restoration, but this is as sound-as base as you'll likely find. The chassis is mostly rust-free (it is a seventies' Datsun after all so not completely rust-free!) but there is no visible rust from the normal suspects - doglegs, arches, battery area, inner wings, roof, rear quarters, fuel filler area, rear hatch slam panel, sills, windscreen pillars etc. Even though the floors have been replaced at some point, there are a couple of small holes (though not enough to put more than a screwdriver blade through). The front guards will need repairs as the lower edges have rust (there are replacement panels for these areas) and the doors will need work and maybe skins (again commonly available). The hatch (with clear glass), bonnet and rear valance are basically sound but need a touch of panel beating to make perfect. The drivetrain is out of the car. The engine is an L28 (740880) running an F54 block and P90A head. It turns over freely. There's a pair of round-top carbs on a standard manifold. Included is a standard cast exhaust manifold and full-length exhaust pipe, save for the rear muffler box. The manual 4-speed gearbox (original equipment back in '71) was supposedly rebuilt a few years back and shifts easily and positively. There's a R180 diff and all u-joints on the prop shaft and half shafts are wear-free. A great condition standard radiator is also present. The chassis still wears both front and rear suspension components and brakes. The tank remains in place, along with fuel and brake lines. The rack and steering column are also still in place. Interior-wise, the are two sets of original seats and one pair of runners. The dash is intact but will need recovering or some filling and smoothing. Interior plastics are in useable condition. There's also the heater matrix and air blower to go with the car. Exterior-wise, there are front and rear bumpers, headlights, taillights and two surround taillight panels (missing the small centre section). There's also sun-visors, interior mirror, two grilles, wipers, sill plates etc, etc. I've even an engine stand that can go with it and a restoration manual. Being able to look at both sides of every panel is a luxury this car offers over "built-up" projects that can hide expensive and time-consuming rust repairs. As I've had this now for nearly three years and not got around to the renovation it deserves, it's time to pass it on to someone with more motivation. It's on its wheels and moves easily so loading it onto a trailer isn't a problem. And you will need a trailer (and a big box for all the bits!) Early 240Z command a minimum of $35k nowadays so for $10k you can start building this Datto your way. Calls only as not interested in txt-tennis. Cheers Quote
