smugley Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Red 1971 240Z on carsales from VIC $96,500 ...YES ...$96,500 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/_/SSE-AD-4344650?WT.seg_4=AutoAlert;PCAA Don't think it's a 71 240z as in the pick above it's got a side repeater on the rear quarter panel . Also for $96k you could put a mirror on the drivers side door ? My guess is that image is of a LHD car . Quote
Agno Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 RHD cars should have a mirror on the right (driver's) side, a mirror is optional on the passenger side. In that ad though there is no mirror on the driver's side so it's a photo of a LHD car... with a cream interior. Quote
ScottyD Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Back to the 96k car, his internal photo is from kodies old cat which is for sale in the uk. See the link below. http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C755524 Curtis240z is correct about the interior picture, check out the link, the picture is from a right hand drive car with dual mirrors Quote

Restored body. Unfinished project. 1UZ-FE $35,000.00 240Z for sale 1973, 2 seater S30 Body restored from bare metal even though it was a very good example before being stripped without any bog. Only place requiring new section was the drivers floor. Painted in a White with a slight Pearl in it Chassis rails extended and strengthened Chassis rails and pillars filled with a 2-pac structural foam. This is NOT the usual sound deadening foam that holds moisture and creates problems it is a very expensive automotive foam that is used in some production cars for strength, stiffness and durability. It sets hard like concrete inside the steel section providing an extremely strong, light and stiff body. I am just explaining because it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but for me I wanted an ultra-stiff body for handling and performance without a roll cage. Bonnet, guards and hatch are fibreglass. I don’t have the panel between the windshield and the bonnet. A panel beater lost it on me years ago. I have a Lexus/Toyota 1UZ-FE mounted to a Supra 5 speed with the lay-back shifter. Sits perfectly and was done without modification to the original body. Custom engineered high grade alloy brackets were fabricated to join the V8 to Hilux diesel engine mounts and then to the 240Z. It ended up being a very neat and strong fit. A modified gearbox mount was made to mount the gearbox in the correct alignment for the rear drivetrain, again mounting to the original, strengthened 240Z mounts. Rear diff is from a Jap spec GTR Skyline and is a longnose R200 Clutch plate LSD. Was very hard to find and expensive but perfect for this build. Have a complete set of brakes, adjustable control arms, links, moustache bar, etc… from Arizona Z Car. Have the required and upgraded adapters from Modern Motorsports for stronger axles, CV conversion, new driveshaft, etc… Also have the CVs from a 300ZXT. Have a box full of replacement parts purchased new for the build (bushes, nuts, bolts, etc). I have very hard to find and expensive forged aluminium wheels. These are in the largest size you can legally engineer in Australia (16x6.5 iirc). Have two shelves worth of parts and spare parts. Interior is all there from what I recall but was painted black by the previous owner. I would not say the interior is in good condition but that never bothered me. Original seats are there but need some restoration. I had Honda Integra seats in it. This is all going off memory from 10 years ago as it’s been in storage for 10 years and I have moved multiple times since then. I need to stop typing otherwise I will start crying. Let me know if there is anything specific you want pics or info on. I am not interested in letting it go for too cheap at this point as I am not yet desperate but if someone who is after this sort of build gives a fair price I will reluctantly say good bye. Let me know your ball-park figure if you wanted to come have a look and please don’t try to bargain me, I am ok with you telling me what you think it’s worth to you but not interested in bouncing prices back and forth – sorry, it’s just too depressing. NGDCTeam Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Seeing these posts with odd sales pitches, such as, "I need to stop typing otherwise I will start crying" and "This ad is for expressions of interest at this stage and if you haven't got 30 plus k don't bother.", are a little funny but more so tasteless. Yes, i understand these cars were bought for much less back in 2010 (this includes me) and are now worth double, but how do folks who are trying to get into the Z car scene over here (Australia) get their foot in, when unfinished projects or poorly restored zeds are this expensive? Car hasn't been used in a while, and I'll never get around to restoring it, so selling it as is. It used to be red, but being under a car cover for an extended period of time stripped much of the paint on the top. I think the white areas on the car (where it should be red) is the clear coat that has been stripped. It starts and runs, however the battery is dead. The engine is the L28 model (2800cc), not the standard L26. It includes twin SU carbies, electric fuel pump. 5 speed manual. Has some rust coming through in the usual places - mainly under the door area on both sides in front of the rear wheels, at the back of the hatch, and other areas. Has a front spoiler, louvres on the bonnet, standard 14" wheels, with a spare in the back. Has CD player, (but not sure if it still works) and Air-Con. Also includes some extras including another set of rear tail lights, and some rubber gaskets. Quote

ScottyD Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Found it. 1973 Datsun 240Z. $40khttps://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-240Z-1973/SSE-AD-3914533 This 240z was fully restored around 2008 and modified to suit the occasional tarmac ralley , hillclimb or track day. It has a 2.8 litre L series engine taken out to 3.0 litre and still running standard looking inlet and ex manifolds and carbies. Standard distributer and other accessories but heavily modified internals producing 149 rear wheel kilowatts. It has a custom built bolt in bolt out roll cage and a cams log book. It uses standard configuraton brakes with upgraded compounds, koni adjustable shocks , and custom springs. the gearbox is a rebuilt later model unit and the diff an original 240 type, the clutch is a semi competition type with a lightened moly flywheel, the combination works well and the car has been driven to every event and home again and never needed a trailer . All modifications are tastefully done and are able to be taken back to standard easily, with the car comes the original standard bore matching numbers 2.4 litre motor. The car has been garaged for about the last 5 years with very little use and probably needs to go to someone that will use it a bit more. cracker and gav240z 2 Quote

Mark B Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Wow, $25k profit in 18 months, beats the markets. Only a profit if he actually gets the $75k for it, it seems lately the stuff that is cheap, even if it is rough or rusty sells pretty quick, but movement in the $60k plus bracket seems to be very slow !! no harm in asking, but what you ask and what you get seem to be two different things !! Just my humble opinion Mark B Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 1, 2016 Author Administrators Posted November 1, 2016 Agree with Mark, although those thinking they can restore some of the rough examples to the level of the 60k cars and still come out ahead are probably living in a delusional state. No harm in that, but they will soon find out the costs of doing a restoration properly . Quote
