Administrators gav240z Posted October 6, 2016 Author Administrators Posted October 6, 2016 Yep sold! I actually had left the tab open at work because I was going to add photos later and thought it might sell before I got a chance. Thanks for adding the images for me! Much harder to get those once the ad is removed / sold. Quote
AndBir Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I forgot to add the text but as you say the pics are what matters - it looks like the advert was only up for about 5 hours. Quote
600Z Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Sorry guys, I saw this car a couple of years ago when I bought some parts off him and had to jump on it..... Quote

74zzz Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 looks like an incredibly clean example......has it had a full resto previously? was surprised to see the blue underside rather than black tar........ Quote
Knight240Z Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 35k!? Congrats 600Z! I am surprised it stayed for 5 hours! looks great! gav240z 1 Quote
600Z Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Hi Gav, ok...... maybe not too sorry. When I saw the car a couple of years ago I thought now this is a very nice clean Zed so when I saw it come up for sale I thought I had better jump on it as they very seldom come up in this condition. Not that I really wanted to part with the money, we never do like too. 74zzz to be honest I didn't ask about the full resto question as he went through its history from new and he was the third owner of the car, his son was the second one and they have had it for 25 years, no mention of a full resto just keeping it tidy and upgrading over the years. It was a couple of years since I had seen the car but straight as a die and not one bit of rust to been seen or where there ever had been so even if it has had a resto it was a long time ago and very well done. Thanks knight240z, I'm happy though would have rather it to have been a 240 but I do like the 260's and from what I understand there were less brought into Australia. Not too many 240z's come up. Macdat Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/172372395012 Starting bid:AU $14,000.00 Q.What do we think of this? Bit to be done still Panels: The shell of the 240Z has had the rust repaired, one of the better shells around to continue restoring (see facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MattCoy240ZRestoration/ , for rust repair pictures). Only rust left in the shell is in the spare wheel well (I have another wheel well in good condition, require slight repairs, to be welded in) and some small sections around the front radiator support. The shell has had the chassis rails extended and some of the seams of the shell have been stitch welded, the shell has been setup to be able to handle some additional power. Front guards require a little bit of work (no rust, just a bit of panel beating) Headlights scoops are in good condition. The front end of the bonnet is rusty. Both doors have had the rust repairs completed, new skins fitted. Only thing left is to hang them, adjust the gaps and to finish tapping down the skin. Rusty hatch, it will require replacement, comes with a brand new fibreglass hatch. New weather seal kit sourced from the US All window glass included with the car Driveline: Original driveline specifications – manual gearbox (unsure if it is the original engine) New polyurethane bush kit sourced from the US Driveline components are complete, will most likely require rebuilds, due to sitting around for so long. Interior: New interior seat covers, roof lining, vinyl trim and carpets sourced from the US. Really good condition (uncracked) factory dash board. The centre console that came with the car is broken. I have sourced another one which is in OK condition and could be refurbished to suit the rest of the interior. The door trims are OK condition, small rips at the bottom. The plastic trims come with the car but could use replacement. Other: Comes with the majority of parts required for assembly, I bought the car dismantled and have not done a stocktake on all of the parts. Reason for sale: I have had the car for over 2 years and have not had the time to complete as much as I would like. As above I have sourced a lot of parts. I am looking at buying property and can’t justify spending the additional money required to finish the project. Contact me through ebay for additional details. Thanks, Matt. Quote
Macdat Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Haha Maybe it's just down the road from me but how do you value it? Seller not sure if the engine is original, should be easy to determine you'd think Quote
Mark B Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I reckon it is to expensive at the start price, never mind what it will make at the end of the auction, although interestingly there have been no bids yet !!. I could be wrong, lots of work and money to be spent, but I think about $8K of my money would top it out, but I may be a bit negative having just done a rebuild and knowing how much time and money it takes !! Would't be surprised if someone paid $10k for it though. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted October 13, 2016 Author Administrators Posted October 13, 2016 The day of finding a 240z for under $10k are fast evaporating. Especially 1 that has had rust repairs already done. It doesn't look like there is much rust to be fixed left on that car. Quote
Iceberg Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/172372395012 Starting bid:AU $14,000.00 Q.What do we think of this? Bit to be done still Who ever is looking at this one, make sure it is not the one that has rolled over in its time. It seems very familiar to the one i have inspected . If it is then i would stay away as repairs were not done properly. Also have a look inside the nooks, the welding is shocking with 90 degree steel angles used to for repairs. I may be wrong and it could be a completely different car. Quote

74zzz Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 doesn't matter what we 'think' is that going to convince you to buy it? its clean, its owned by an old bloke thats 'probably' taken care of it..........but a cheap paint job can look a million bucks on a website......just go have a look and see for yourself gMit 1 Quote
andyk_79 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Cheers for the heads up mate but doubt I could do this car justice guessing total spend could be up to 30-40k if the engine is shot The engine in one of these is NOT where the cost comes from unless you want to go for an upgrade. The true cost of the restoration is in the body. Give me a Z with clapped out mechincals over a Z with a clapped out body any day ! L24, L26 and L28 engines are out there relatively cheap ! Quote
gMit Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Would love to go look, but unfortunately I'm Vic based.
