G Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 260z 2 seater and 260 2+2 parts car down Mornington way. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moorooduc/cars-vans-utes/datsun-260z-2-seater-shell-with-roll-cage/1015221625 I sent my father out to go and look at this one today. 2 seater is in primer and the primer has attracted the moisture, so has surface rust. Apparently the hatch is in good nick. No motor, no gearbox. Dig in the rear quarter. 2+2 is very bad, has motor and auto tranny. Boxes of bits and an unassembled, kinda rusty roll cage (which apparently cost $4k). I won't be buying, but if there's good bits... can I have first dibs? Quote
Yo-Yo Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rochedale/cars-vans-utes/1971-datsun-240z-coupe/1015530777 What do you fellas reckon for the price? Anything to look out for. Still getting my head around what to spot for besides the usual rust areas cheers Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 8, 2013 Moderators Posted March 8, 2013 At that price, I'd be expecting lots of pics of any bodywork and rust removal. Mainly just look for any rust! Un original engine so it depends on you how original you wanted it to be. I'm sure the price is negotiable to a point. Quote
funkmaster Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 looks like the 50RTA car but with different wheels http://www.downshiftaus.com/2010/cotton-wool-no-thanks/ Quote

dat2kman Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 no plates on car, but in ad it says rego plates in "Runnin L8" Ie his personalised plates are late in arriving! Also a pic of the Qld Tpt Blue ( modification) plate attached would be helpfull, if it has been engineered and approved? For rims, suspension brakes seats, and possibly for cut rear original steel guards.it has appeared It used to be plated as "50RTA".?? not too sure?? Something a bit different with carbs and exhaust tip. Quote
MATTY Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 if that is/was 50RTA then she as some lovely rust in the front left hand side rail. i looked at it a few years ago when it was for sale last some fella called alex was trying to sell it. but it had too much cancer for me at that stage to handle and also had a red bull can for the radiator overflow haha. Yo-Yo Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I love this site. Thanks for the responses I'm not going to be buying a 240/260z anytime soon unless I sell my skyline first. But just reading through the posts on here helps me learn what to look out for. Looking by the engine & similar suspension setup indeed seems to be 50rta Quote
cracker Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yep http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1971-Datsun-240z-Sports-Coupe-Holden-308-/300869844286?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item460d3d7d3e hi guys, I've been looking to get back into a zed for a while - I'm looking at this one and spoke to the owner earlier today. There's a bit of work to be done and despite its current looks, it fits my budget. Is there anybody quite close to Mowbray and willing to give it a good look over for me? preferably with a good knowledge of zeds! More than happy to wire you some cash for some beers for your trouble, as it would be much appreciated! feel free to pm here or call/text on (zero four zero three) 527398 cheers, James Quote

Moderators PB260Z Posted March 19, 2013 Moderators Posted March 19, 2013 This has been on Carsales for a while. Looks pretty tidy. Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 19, 2013 Moderators Posted March 19, 2013 For an unmolested "exceptional" car it certainly has alot of things changed and or missing.. 280ZX EFI, missing trim and 240K wheel, different stereo and looks like someone has been playing with the steering column shroud. Interior looks pretty filthy. Also the heater core has been by-passed ie leaky heater core. Hate to see what's under the dash mat! Quote

Yeah, just didn't look right in the photo's, and all of the above is before looking closely at the shiney bodywork. Thanks PB Quote
viking Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I believe it was the one for sale in Wagga late last year when the owner was asking $6000- "the mature man". I had a look and the stories did not make sense, he had been tinkering with it for years, seats were ratty and all worn/torn. There had been respraying and all sorts of excuses why engine could not be started. I had a look on my way through Wagga early December, maybe a $3000- to $4000- car. Is straight though and a good project. Strange he is reselling so fast. Quote
handsandwhich Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 What's up with the pedal arrangement on that one above? The clutch looks like it overlaps the brake and the brake seems oddly far away from the accelerator or is it just the angle of the photo making it look like that? Quote

Looks like it was an auto as well with a manual conversion..seems they forgot to change the brake pedal to a manual one as well.... The list is growing.. Quote
Aliangus Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Shameless plug, but I've got a much neater bus advertised in the for sale section Quote

Agno Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Can't vouch for the car, but it always makes me uneasy to see a shiny exterior with a filthy (and completely different colour) interior like that Quote

But there is an alarming large number of bids on this car. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/datsun-240k-couple-skyline-c110-Project-Car-Drag-Car-Nissan-/200906357434 To think you couldn't give these away years ago, this could fetch more than a 240z in similar condition. This 1 looks far more honest. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240k-GL-1974-2D-Hardtop-3-SP-Automatic-2-4L-Carb-/261184872030 Quote
