Hi,

Took the bus for a run up the Old Pac Hwy yesterday and whilst it stayed cool when underway the temp started to creep up when sitting still or crawling along.

Hopefully a fan shroud will sort that out.

Hi,

Have put about 2,000kms on the bus since getting her registered and the odo has just clocked over X35,000ks so decided it was time for oil and coolant change.

Interestingly the diff oil was like new but the gearbox oil was very dirty and the plug had a fair amount of metallic grud on it. Hopefully this is just crap from the engine box sitting idle for 10+ years.

Have also decided to get the radiator completely overhauled while I am at.

(edit: Going to try a ebay radiator, HEAPS cheaper than overhauling the original)

Cheers

PB

Hi

You don't miss much :)

The rims are Simmons V4 15X8 at 0 offset and fitted with 225/50/15 tyres

The fit is pretty good but not perfect :

At the front there was a tiny bit of scrubbing on the lower valance, but easily sorted - Trim the valance or change to 205/50/15 tyres

At the rear -6 offset would fill the guards a little better.

Another thing to consider is the availability of 225/50/15 tyres is not the best. I am learning this as the tyres currently on the rims need replacing.

Cheers

Hi,

So the ebay radiator arrived during the week and looks pretty good. Yes it did need a little fiddling to get it bolted up, but nothing major.

Just waiting for some Spal fans to arrive than I will be able get her back on the road.

Cheers

PB that should transfer the heat and keep the engine cool.

It will be a lot more efficient that a std unit.

Hi Jeff

Hoping so. The old unit was not in the best of shape then add to that I added some chemical flush to the water which resulted in the block sludge moving to radiator core.

Hi

One of the plans I had when building my bus was to end up with a car that I could take on serious road trips, not just Sunday drives. I have friends or family in most states and have always enjoyed the experience of driving long distances.

As most of you would know I transplanted the engine (inc EFI) and gearbox from 280ZX that had sat in a carport untouched since 2002 into a bus that Lockie had done all the body work on. add in a diff change, some suspension work and a thousand other little things and I had a running registered car.

Since getting it back on the road I have done a lot of miles but have never strayed more than 100ks from home - just in case.

Then about a month back Lurch invited to come down to Yarragon for the weekend. Initially I was going to take the work car, but then I thought why not take the bus ? After all it  could do with a good shakedown run. What is the worse that could happen ???  : :)

So after checking over the vital parts of the car, I hit road, destination Yarragon. For the first few hundred Ks I was waiting for something to go bang and all forward motion to cease. Once I got that the first few hundred Ks behind me I started to relax and just enjoy the drive. The Z is truly a great open road car.The day rolls by and next thing I know I am closing in Yarragon having faced beautiful sunshine, torrential rain, fog and just about everything the weather can offer. The car never missed a beat.

Had great weekend, including a visit to Phillip Island, then jumped in the bus and headed back to Sydney.

By the time I got home the car had done 2,000+ Ks using about 11litres / 100ks and didn't miss a single beat.

You just can't beat the reliability of the L series.

Loving the Z experience, starting to think about the next trip.

Cheers

The fuel cnsumption was a surprise, but with a 3.9 diff the engine is sitting on 2800 at 115 or so - Not exactly working hard.

Great inspiration for my own PB.

Keep the updates coming.

Hi,

Going to slow down the work in the bus for a while - time to just enjoy the drive.

Oh, and start making a list of the next round of improvements and expenditures.

Cheers

Hi

Just a small update.

I now have a working and acurate clock :) well it has kept time installed for 3 weeks.

Yes, I know it is wrong face for a '77, and the hands are a little short - but this is prototype of an economical clock restoration idea and I didn't want to risk destroying my original clock.
