Hi,

Spent the last few days addressing some of the little details needed.

1. Mounted the ZX EFI Fuel Pump and Damper nice and high away from harm.

2. Remove 30+ years of accumulated grime from the engine bay.

3. Mount Clutch hose on the chassis rail.

Not much progress over the last week or two, been rather busy getting organised for Bathurst.

Finished the fuel and electrical connections for the fuel pump and just generally tidying up the L28 and related accessories and mounts.

Probably won't get much done until after the Bathurst weekend, then hopefully will be able to get into it with some pace.

Cheers

Still struggling for timeto work on the bus, work is rather busy right now.
I am managing to tackle a few smaller jobs. Cleaned up the console and switches today.
Still need to fix the ashtray lid and fit a leather boot for the gearshift.

Yes indeed making progress, just on a whole lot of little things.

Need to find the time to tackle one of the bigger items, like bolting the engine & box in.

Taking some time off Christmas so worst case will move forward then

Don't worry George Ive lost the wind in my sails over the last month too. Ive had a string of really really bad jobs and rebuilds at work, mainly forklifts from the rubbish tip or chicken processing plants..... I get home and the last thing i want to do is get filthy doing fab and panel work. Come weekends Im like "nope not getting filthy this weekend"

Keep it up Pete i want to see this thing on the road!!

Was originally planning (hoping) to be on the road by Bells Line drive day, but a coule of work and home things have taken a bit more time than I thought.

It is not far from being on the road, just needs an engine, exhaust and a one or two little things.

New deadline is.........

Cheers

Managed to get down into the workshop and do some work on the bus today.

Attacked a lot of those little jobs that needed doing.

- Headlights sorted

- Wipers & Washers Sorted (you can use an S130 pump with a quick mod)

- Rear seat locks fixed

- Interior cleaned and carpets sorted.

- New steering wheel fitted

- L28 EFI loom modified to suit the S30.

The car is starting to look the part on the exterior & interior - feeling very motivated to put the L28 in.

In the process of fixing the washer pump I found the little black box in the picture below hidden under the washer bottle. I am guessing a simple sort of car alarm (although no siren or bonnet switch is fitted) anyone ever seen one like it ?

Cheers

Hi All

Big day of progress yesterday, got all the following fitted

Motor & Gearbox

Prop Shaft

Radiator, Hoses, Shrouds etc

L28E Air Cleaner

Plus a whole pile of little things

Ran into a couple of small issues with fitting an 280ZX L28E into a late 260Z

- The throttle linkage from the firewall was 20mm short (both S30 & S130 rods are the same length, but the firewall brackets are different

Have overcome the linkage, was lucky enough to a competent welder helping me ;)

Will need to take the shifter to a mate with an Oxy to heat and bend it.

Next job - get the ECU loom integrated into the car.

Getting a lot closer :)

Well done - sounds like it has taken a huge lurch forward. Do you have an update on your beer fridge?

Haha, yes a bit of a Lurch forward. The plan was just to fix a small issue that had halted progress then drop the motor in before hitting the fridge but we just got carried away (on the car & fridge)

The Beer Fridge works perfectly and now has plenty of room in it for Xmas.

The interior has also progress, but this happened the weekend before.

Arguably the greatest rock n roll band in the world.

And if I remember correctly Microsoft used the song launch the "Start" button that first appeared in windows 95 ?

That is correct, trust a corporation to ruin a great song. :)

So....

Managed to get down into the workshop and finish hooking all the wiring for EFI.

Turn the key and evrything seems in order, turns over with strong spark and the tacho needle bounces, but it won't start.

Back to EFI guide and all the wiring and sensors check out even cold start circuit works.

Main injectors not clicking - Trouble shooting guide suggests the ECU is at fault.

Had anybody else got experience in this conversion and had a similar issue, any suggestions welcomed.

Was working fine when removed, but old electronics don't like being disturbed.

Does anybody have an ECU for L28 that they are not using that I could get my hands on?

Not the best of days.

Sorry to hear that Peter  :( - I hope you can get past this soon and make a nice video for George.

You might find a wider audience by posting in the parts wanted category.

Try sending 24Ozed a PM - he logged on here yesterday and may still have one for sale (albeit in Adelaide).

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/10796-factory-ecus-x2-suit-l28-efi-nissan-datsun/

There is also one in Victoria for sale on eBay for $159.90 (free postage)

Hi Ian

Hadn't had a look on ebay, that could be the answer, and yes will post in the parts wanted.

I will overcome this and a video will be posted.

Ahh the fun of classic cars.

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks, hopefully this one last hurdle then back on the road.

Once on the road, I expect a whole new range of little "fun" challenges to deal with, but life would be boring if things just worked.

Cheers
