So awesome, hope mine looks this good when I'm done.

Does your front spoiler line up as excellently as it appears in the photo? If it does this makes me sad :( It looks like factory!

You've got a good base Gav so thats a good start.

Do you need a driver?

Thats a long way to go for a drive George!  ;D

Thats how it lines up both sides Jake, it definetely didn't start like that though, there was a bit of modyifing, cutting drilling to get there. I wish it just bolted up but like a lot of parts on the build, no chance!

Yes do we get any interior shots yet? I know it's been a closely guarded secret. Seats do look good.

No secret Gav, I just haven't taken the interior pics yet as I haven't got my console yet, I might take a couple of snaps this weekend though. The seats do look great but the material is hard to keep clean as everything seems to get stuck in the fibres and wont vacuum out, should have gone the leather.

Mark those Wats fit sweeeeet.

what size and offset are they.

Paul they are 16x8 0 offset with 225/45 tyres, very happy with them  ;)

I'd love to have these cars side by side at a show, straight line though, hmm tough L24 vs mild L28  ;D

Thanks guys, pretty happy to be at this stage, the rear hatch will be changed down the track to a series 1 and the doors still have some ripples in them, they got absolutely shagged from the sandblaster, still pisses me off thinking about it.  I actually have another set of doors which are already in etch, I may get my mate to paint them in the booth when he paints his camaro.

On to aligning some panels shortly and putting the interior in.

Just going through your build mate so I'll probably be digging up a bit of history as I go, but based your experience with the sand blasters - what would you do differently? Or was it just bad sand blasters who did the work?

I think with any build we all have moments like this that try our patience, things that nag at us after we are done.

It's always the operator doing the blasting that fails - never the media used (unless it's chunks of carbide!).

Ive heard and seen horror stories Gav. The guys I used were very particular, to the point of requesting the shell be delivered on a specific day to match the coarseness of the garnet which gets finer as its used and cycled through and even then they only lightly blew over the roof which then had to be finished by hand. They do a lot of large scale industrial stuff so start out with really aggressive media and then pick their moment to do fine work like car bodies.

Best advice would be to only go on recommendations from others....they all say they have plenty of experience and will do a good job!

Sorry for the hijack Mark.

David is right, go to someone that has been recommended to you. For the shell it went straight from Rob at the z factory to the sandblasters around the corner the he uses and I was very happy with their work. I had the doors and hatch done before that by someone else that I hadn't used before. I had used blast off in heidleberg for my first z shell and they were also very good so I should have just taken the doors and hatch to them.

Paul I don't think there is much room is left for bigger rear wheels, I can take a side on pic though.

Check out the blue 240z on this link though, from memory he is running 16x8.5 -6 offset  http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=7070.0

Mark im thinking of going the magnesium ones and they

do custom offsets. I was going to go 8.5 with +5 offset so that

would put outside lip in around the same position

as yours but my concern is rim hitting strut.

Posted

I put 17x8 +10 on the back of my Zed once for funzies and they cleared the strut with quite a bit of space. I'd obviously recommend finding someone with those sorts of offsets to test fit though

Nice I had a set of magnesium wats on my old turbo mx5. I've got coilovers on the 240 and there is about an inch clearance

One of, if not THE, best Zs on this forum.

Besides the missing centre, is it safe to say the car's complete?

You must be pretty happy!

Looks awesome, although if someone paid $900 for a Compe wheel on eBay they paid wayyy too much.

You can get them on Yahoo! auctions for about $300.

I've also seen the fender mirrors on there, so they can be sourced. ;).

Are you happy with the dashboard restoration work done? Looks good to me in the photos.

I think the z is almost finished, as soon as you fix one thing there will always be something else to do  ;D I still want to change the hatch to a series 1 and maybe next year I'll speak to Peter about some serious headwork on the L28.

I think $900 is too much as well Gav for a compe wheel, from memory I paid between $500-600 landed for mine which was a NOS item in the box, which was more than I wanted to pay I just got caught up in the moment. There are now heaps of cheap ones on yahoo japan but I think they are mostly replicas, I don't remember seeing them when I was looking for one. Saw a few sets of used fender mirrors as well but for the price they wanted for items that were pretty toasty I wasn't interested, my new ones ended up being $400 which was only a little bit more than some used ones  ;)

I am very happy with the dashboard, the gauges were a little tight to get in but other than that it looks great!
