Just from looking the ad - what sort of offer would you make on this car?

Honestly for a 2+2 like that, $500 and I'd pray it's not that rusty underneath, it's a parts car from the look of it and the lack of description makes it hard to ascertain what else it has going for it, (if anything).

Hopefully the rust isn't that bad and is just surface rust thanks to an incomplete restoration...

That's what i would have estimated too..

I'm hoping to try to pick it up for a parts car, but being WA, i reckon a lot of other Z enthusiasts are  thinking the same thing.. It si still registered which is interesting. I'll be inquiring about it as soon as they pick up their phone! I'm crossing my fingers that is salvageable..

Thanks Gav!

Most times an entire car is a liability so that goes in your favour. I made $2500+ on a 2+2 that was in worse condition than this one. Over your way i would say complete cars are rare and any car that's abused like this one will have rust. I payed $650 for my rolling shell 3 years ago but it was local so i took that into account. It also had 2 engines with it. $500 offer may offend in my opinion. The fact that a parts car can go to save many others can help sway a sell for the right price.

I would love to know what number she is, looks early.

Asking top dollar $30k - photos make it hard to judge but if it's rust free and only needs minor items then perhaps not a bad deal, as a few years from now I'm tipping it will look like a bargain. Just saying...

Hmmm......I spotted this earlier too. I am in the process of arranging to go and have a look at it. I shall report back regarding the number once I've seen it.

I agree re the price being top dollar. But as you say, it will all come down to how the good the body is and how negotiable that price is. If the pic of the centre console is anything to go by, I'd say the interior still needs a fair bit of work. And it definitely needs some new shoes!

Just don't tell anyone else about it until I've had a look OK ;)

LOL - yes, well you've seen how to restore the console now :). The throttle and choke knob can be sourced relatively easily thanks to reproductions. The ash-tray is harder to find at a reasonable price.

However as I say they are minor things, the wheels and side mirrors do the car no justice in my opinion and if the paint is really good and body very solid and matching numbers engine to chassis coupled with an early number I'd say it would certainly be worth looking at more closely.

It may have the original 71A? gearbox based on the shifter itself and it has the bonus original gear knob. The dash has definitely been out as the gauges are in the incorrect order. Clock is in the middle - it should be on the left.

I just hope it wasn't a short cut rebuild.

^ True that.

Always seems a little suss when someone is asking a decent amount for a car that 'only needs a few tweaks'. If it was only a weekend or two worth of work, why not do it yourself, make the car actually perfect and charge appropriately? Funky mirrors, door handles look painted black? None of them are big issues, but if the owner can't be bothered doing those little things...

Paint does look nice though.

Good luck with your inspection.

Wonder what that knob is to the right of where the ashtray should be?

Knob looks like after market A/C.. installers usually drilled holes anywhere they could mount those things.

You were spot on in regards to the knob. It is indeed for A/C.

Does anyone happen to know anything about this car?  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/240-Z-/301194038916

Ebay item number: 301194038916

All I know is it's been advertised for a while now. It's missing some parts to make it original - looks like it was restored in a documented fashion which is always helpful. Not sure if anyone's been to see it yet?

There is a good 260Z for sale in Loganholme and the car is listed on Drive.com.au for $7500.00 but they will accept $6000.00. I have inspected this car and can assure that if I had the funds I would not being posting this. Check it out. Sorry I do not know how to post link to ad. Maybe Gav can do that for me. ;) 8) Or someone could give me $18k for my 75 2+2 and I could get it. ???
