I could be wrong but it looks like a white 240z that briefly appeared on Gumtree a couple of months ago for 2k.

Did you have a look at the green one? What number was it? Other thoughts...

It is HS30 00319 and non original matching numbers (has L26 in it, original number is L24 021841). Body is less than perfect for a 'restored' car, but it seems solid in the right places.

I'll let GK510 fill you in on the rest and possibly show photos also.

I'm actually not sure what to value it at, given what I've seen. Guess it depends on if someone wants an early car enough?

As mentioned by Gav above, it is an early build at #319 but doesn't have a matching numbers engine.

In my opinion, the body doesn't present as well as you would expect given the asking price and the wording of the ad refers to it as being "immaculate". Considering it has apparently been stored indoors for the last 6 or so years since the body work was done, I expected that the standard of the paintwork would be quite a bit better. While I'm no paint expert, it appears to have been painted in acrylic rather than 2k. I think it may be reasonably solid in some of the more rust prone areas but it was a bit hard to tell what may be hiding under the body work that has been done to date so I have arranged to have another look at it in some better light.

In my opinion, from what I've seen so far, it still has quite a bit of work and dollars to go into it to bring it up to the standard of the advertised price.

Feel free to PM me if anyone has any other specific queries and I'll try to answer them if I can.

260Z 2+2 in Lilydale for $600.

Looks to be well rusty but may be worth look at that price for anyone chasing a few bits and pieces. Looks like to original twin carbs are sitting on the back seat in the last photo.

Indeed I did - just decided to bite the bullet.  For 15 years I have been wanting a 240Z but the timing was never right.  The timing is still not right but my wife was supportive so I'm happy !!

Looking forward to more reading on these forums with fellow fans and owners.

haha, from the sounds of it some buyers remorse at first or last minute jitters... don't worry I shit myself when I bought a second Z (HS30 00150) mainly because it dawned on me what I was about to take on...but no regrets I've learnt a lot already and I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience also. It helps to have a supportive partner, it really helps.

Congrats on the new purchase. I hope it's relatively smooth sailing for you from here on and you get it on the road with a minimal of fuss.

I was sitting here with an itchy trigger finger watching the auction toward the end and almost had a "why the hell not" moment but managed to contain myself. ;) Even did a quick last minute PPSR check on the car too. I assume you would have done one but if you didn't, I'm more than happy to forward you a copy.

Thanks all for the messages. Was just reading up on the 15th  - might come for a drive although I'm pretty sure the Z won't be rego by then so it will be in a family wagon! Yeah I got PPSR but thanks for the offer.

I have contemplated having a look at it, but I can't help but think the "novelty" of the lhd would wear off quite quickly. And as Cracker mentioned, I think it has been for sale on and off for a while. Don't know if the reason it hasn't sold is just because of the lhd bit or something else.

It seems be be fairly neat and complete but from the pictures it looks like its been repainted at some stage. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing as long as any rust that was evident at the time has been repaired/removed properly.

Anyone else had experiences with a lhd Z in Australia for things such as rego and insurance? And what do people think would be a reasonable difference in price if you were comparing this with a similar condition Aus delivered rhd car? Surely the market value would have to be at least $5k less for the lhd.

I agree about $5k less than a car in equivalent condition in RHD, as this would likely be the cost of conversion. I don't know anything about insurance costs (registration doesn't matter because it's over 30 years old - you don't have to convert it).

If you're not driving it daily I don't think it's a big deal, I've seen plenty of US Muscle cars getting around in LHD.

To be honest, I think it is better to buy a rust free or tidy LHD car, over restoring a rusty RHD car. Converting them can't be too expensive if you can obtain the parts and you're willing to do some of the work.

1 advantage of leaving it LHD is that you can get parts from the US easily and cheap.

There is a couple of Zeds I know of that are US imports here now.

Car park boom gates and drive throughs are a little "challenging"  ;)
