Might be able to save some of the original parts. Thanks Quote
Geos260 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 your welcome..they do the lot george, they done my booster, the rear brake cylinders aswell, if they cant help, then no one can, pretty much every one in sydney deals with them when it come to that stuff, and they are very reasonable. Moderators PB260Z Posted September 7, 2015 Moderators Posted September 7, 2015 Hi George The plating looks awesome, love the detail photos complete with ruler. Looks like a few hours office time sorting them all out. Can't wait to see the next update on the body work Cheers PB Quote
GongZ Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Wow George that is an awful lot of bits! I assume that it is basically every single fastener and plated component from one entire 240Z? Can you give us an idea of how much that lot cost (when your wife and Walter aren't looking)? Quote
George Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Looks like a few hours office time sorting them all out. Can't wait to see the next update on the body work Yep, and much better than many hours guessing what goes where without the photos. When I started stripping the car I thought I was going overboard with the bagging and tagging even though I really wasn't that thorough to be honest. At this end of the job I wish I had taken more time bagging and tagging. Can't stress how important this is along with taking lots and lots of photos. Me too on the body updates. Should see the car take a car-like form again. Wow George that is an awful lot of bits! I assume that it is basically every single fastener and plated component from one entire 240Z? Can you give us an idea of how much that lot cost (when your wife and Walter aren't looking)? No chance Ian - I wish that was all there was to the whole car. What you see there is all of the bits that could be saved and reused. Some were not original so I didn't bother with them and others were too far gone/unsafe/broken. My first plating job cost $250 but that included some rather large bits. See more here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11477-hs30-00019/?p=153978 The cost goes up at the platers if you have very small fiddly bits that they have to wire up which takes time. If all you need to do is some fasteners then it should cost about $100 to $150. I dropped off some parts at the platers this past weekend and taking more in soon. This time we're doing a mix of yellow chromate on some fasteners and plain silver zinc on calipers and brake/clutch masters. Quote
KatoKid Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Great job mate. How clean does everything need to be...ideally? Do the clean plater's clean everything in a hot tank of some kind or is it preferred that you supply everything as clean as possible already? I could media blast every piece before sending for plating but is this required or overkill? Quote
George Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Overkill and waste of time in most cases. They dip in some acid solution which does a great job and doesn't seem to damage rubbers or plastics (as long as they are in good condition to begin with). I haven't blasted anything in that lot. With the latest lot I did sandblast the calipers as they had a lot of crud so it was more of a courtesy than a requirement. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 22, 2015 Administrators Posted September 22, 2015 Here is my assistant Walter inspecting the demisters. He checked them with a multimeter, was satisfied with the connections and proceeded to eat a feather stuck to the styrofoam. Hey George, I always thought you needed a specialist to fix these, but looking at these 2 resources. http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a2073/4221212/ You should be able to repair these if they have a broken connection somewhere. George Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Kylie and I are very proud to announce that she is pregnant with our first child. High five! She is 12 weeks today and the due date is April 12 - a day after my birthday! I could not dream of a better birthday present. Incidentally, I first met Kylie on my birthday and I proposed to her on my birthday as well so it's a fitting date for our firstborn. This, of course, presents some problems for the project but it's a very welcome problem. Look out for a for sale ad in the near future... gav240z, oldmates260z, Impatient1 and 1 other 4 Quote

Can't see that one lasting too long. :-/ Gav, yeah, was kidding about selling. I imagine it'll sit in the garage a bit longer than planned but no, no plans to sell. Quote

I dare say that having a child is similar to owning a Z - hard work, lots of stress and expensive but a very rewarding experience. Best of luck. I'm only really qualified to talk about the kids part... George 1 Quote
