zed74 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Nice job mate - taking it for a spin is going to be sooooo good! Just need to watch out for those secret camera spots around your lovely city! Quote
Roberto Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 NEED HELP: I have 2 pairs of wires coming out of the right side of my manual 240K gearbox. I know one pair is for the reverse light. This goes to the engine bay loom. I don't know what the other wires are for and cannot even remember if I had them hooked up. Could this be a feature of a 240K not used in the Zed?? Pics of your Zed in this general area would be very useful. Quote
MaygZ Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Roberto, I'm just guessing ('cause I don't know) but did the 240K run an electronic speedo off the box? Or is there a chance that it is part of a pollution control (backed off fuel when 5th was selected). they are the only things I can think of. I hope I have helped. Maygz Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 2, 2012 Moderators Posted March 2, 2012 It wasn't an auto in a previous life was it? Could be ignition lock out switch? Quote
Roberto Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Thanks boys. I am going to ignore these wires and whatever use a 240K has for them, my Zed won't. Well, everything has been assembled now. The engine will be going in next week. Added some extreme makeover style pics. Quote

Roberto Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 240K box??? Yeah Bluerat, long story involving $$$ and lack there of...... Essentially they are the same as the Z box with with slightly taller 1st and 2nd gears. It's very smooth to change gears too. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 good work Roberto engine bay looks better than new. I got to catch up with you guys soon. Quote
bluerat Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Yeah sorry Rob, for a road car it will be fine mate, just send it to Dr. Albins for a birthday when the bank balance get's better! Plus you will be able to brag to your mates that the Zed will do 100mph in third now!! Thinking about it, I'm a bit unfairly biased as I had one behind a Mega cam'd, peaky as, no torque L18 in my 1600 many years ago and even with a 4.8 diff it was hopeless between 2 and 3rd...man it was bad! but behind a big grunter like yours she'll be sweet! You can't kill them, in the end it was known as O'l Crunchie and I gave it to a mate who sent it to Mr Hollinger..and he fixed it! I've still got one under the bench, and if you ever want to do 100mph in second I've got a 720 5 speed as well... Hodgo Quote
Roberto Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Well, today was a very special day for me...... With some help from my brother, I managed to drop in the PMC powerplant ! Quote
peter mc Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 mate it looks great . you will love the sound it makes , i will come for a drive next week Quote
Agno Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Great stuff! Vids of when you get it on the road! Also, how did you end up setting up your fuel pump? I'm looking to do something very similar in the next few weeks Quote
RB30X Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 OMG that look sooo good. I bet youre glad you tidied up the engine bay first. Quote
zzzzed Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 You should bring it for a drive and come pick up your screw driver Quote
luvemfast Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 +1 for you doing the engine bay Looks great mate Quote
Riceburner Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Nice color scheme. Damn, those trumpets look great! Quote
Roberto Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Thanks guys. I am glad I spent the time doing this. Lots of fun....... Now to get this engine fired up. With regards to the fuel pump Agno, it's all documented a few pages back in some detail. Essentially, I mounted a Mallory fuel pump near the tank and I am not using the return line. I have forgotten about that screwdriver Mick. You can keep it. A drive to Murray Bridge through the Adelaide Hills is a great idea though....... Quote
Roberto Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 More progress today..... Radiator mounted and crankcase / rocker cover breather plumbed to vented catch can. Also new polyurethane front spoiler(s) up front. Quote
garvice Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Looking good mate. How is the clear tubing to the breather going to handle the pressure/vacuum? Always seen vacuum or pressure hose used but never thought about whether it was actually required. P.S. So your car is going to have a double chin hey? Quote
Roberto Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 Looking good mate. How is the clear tubing to the breather going to handle the pressure/vacuum? Always seen vacuum or pressure hose used but never thought about whether it was actually required. P.S. So your car is going to have a double chin hey? There will be virtually no pressure build up in the clear tubing as it is vented to the atmosphere. I could have used black rubber tubing and if i don't like the look of it in the end, it's easy to change. Double chin, hehe. Postage from the US was identical if I bought one or two of these spoilers, so I did the logical thing. Quote
MaygZ Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Postage from the US was identical if I bought one or two of these spoilers, so I did the logical thing. Which leads to he obvious questions? what are you doing with the other one? AND How much do you want for it? (have I mentioned how much I just LOVE Adelaide? South Australians are the finest people in the world. ) Quote
