luvemfast Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Don't even think about an arc welder on a car. Not only is the metal too thin, but the slag can become a problem. Mig is the better option by a long shot. Are you sure you want to paint the brake lines? Quote
Roberto Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 Yeah. Why not? Brake, clutch and fuel lines are not that attractive ATM. Quote
Roberto Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 Well, i have been convinced that painting the brake, clutch and fuel lines black aswell will make the engine bay job look cheap and nasty. I have spent too much $$$ to let that happen, so tonight I decided to go ahead and rub the lines back to make them bling and remove the clamps holding them down to paint around them easier. I also got stuck into preparing the engine bay accessories for paint too. Most will be sprayed silver except the steering rod. Thanks for your constructive feedback guys ! Quote

peter mc Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 good work mate it will be nice when its all done , you will be proud of the car and you will wont to show people under the hood so the hard work now will pay off Quote
peter mc Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 mate it was one hard day on the dyno the new combo was very hard to get right but to the credit of Les collens we got it right in the end we started at 9am and we got of the dyno at 6pm with no brakes ..in the end we made 284 hp at 7200 peak torque was at 5200 bit different from the first dyno as the comp was lower and we could run more timing timing numbers are now 12 base and 27 total the hp at 5000 was 270 and hp at 4500 263 ,,, was the hardest engine iv ever tuned .... i am very tired Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 15, 2011 Moderators Posted September 15, 2011 What an effort...it was great to see 3 of Vics top tuners working on that L28! Got one hell of a note when I last heard it.. Quote

Roberto Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Many many thanks for your patience today. I am sure that yourself, Les and Lou would have tuned it better than anyone else in the country !! The hp numbers speak for themselves. I cannot wait to come and collect it...... Quote
Sirpent Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Nice piece of Kit there Roberto, and that motor was born built and tuned through passion, Im sure it will give it all back 2 fold. A stupid question, but why not send the car across get the motor fitted and cruise back to South Australia in it? Cheers John Quote
luvemfast Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Good choice Rob. You won't regret the extra effort......... once its finished! Great figures too, you sure you don't want to race it? Quote
Roberto Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 A stupid question, but why not send the car across get the motor fitted and cruise back to South Australia in it? Hey John. That would be an option, but that means i would not be picking it up for some time as engine bay still needs to be completed. Plus, i want to collect it in person and drop her in myself. More special this way. Great figures too, you sure you don't want to race it? No, I am not sure, hehe Once again, big thanks to Pete and his team. Apparently they tried many many different combos to get it just right. Now to make the engine bay worthy of the engine...... Quote

Roberto Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 The quick engine bay "freshen up" just keeps escalating as I have taken the dash out, master cylinders off and also brake and clutch lines. I am getting new lines made up in SS and also having the dash re-skinned through rare spares. The guy said it was one of the worse he has seen. The reason i took the dash out is that I did not want the choke cables and non functioning AC hoses protruding through the firewall. Was also a good time to inspect for hidden problems. Lucky i did as one of the heater hoses was slowly leaking and i found coolant pooling on the floor pan Also, Adam's (acf321) great sales abilities convinced me to ceramic coat the SW headers Quote
peter mc Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 hahah it will be a striped out racer soon Quote
