MaygZ Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Pete, the motor in the background of pic #2 above: Is that your MONSTER turbo twin cam coming along? Quote
luvemfast Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 PORN! You'll have to YouTube a vid of it on the engine dyno? Quote
peter mc Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 well big day on the engine dyno and we have some video and will get lurch to help put it up soon as possible , how did it go ,,,, very well we maxed the 40 mm carbs at 260hp at 5500 so we changed the carbs to 44 mm carbs and it came up 30hp at 2500 through 6000 rpm we stopped at 280hp not to bad for a street L28 ,, big thanks to Les collins for the tune top man knows his stuff , he will post the results next week ...... and the extractors work a treat more torque down low than you can poke a stik at power at 2500 was 220hp Quote
Roberto Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 more torque down low than you can poke a stik at power at 2500 was 220hp 220hp at 2500rpm !!?? Will certainly be a torque monster . Exactly what I wanted. I can't wait to drop it in and take the zed for a drive...... BIG thanks to you Peter for your hard work on this project. Really looking forward to the video. Quote
luvemfast Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 40 mm carbs at 260hp at 5500 44 mm carbs 2500 through 6000 rpm 280hp 44 mm carbs 2500 was 220hp Great work. You'll need to sit on a towel when you drive it Roberto....... cos your gunna need it Quote
Roberto Posted July 23, 2011 Author Posted July 23, 2011 Thanks Lurch for your youtube wizardry. Saweet. When does it get installed. Still a bit of time away from installation as Pete and I are still working out what final induction to use. The 44's (with 37mm chokes) were "borrowed" for the dyno tune and the 40's are back on the engine. Since car actually made more bottom end power as well as top end with the 44's, I can't think of any good reason to not go with 44's (except for money of course ). Pete thinks engine was still hungry for more air/fuel up top and would go even better with 39mm chokes still with plenty of bottom end, but this may require a retune. Let's wait and see........... Quote
zzzzed Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Hmmm i think i might need a ride in this beast when its done. I hope all that torque dosnt make the flares fall off Quote
chris240 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 it liiiives !!! very strong engine. on a side note....Im just watching the Adelaide tarmac rally on channel "one" the pair of 240z are killing them..oh the sound of those tripples Quote
Sirpent Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Not going to waffle on, one word covers it all INSANE ! Quote

peter mc Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 it a very strong l28 it has lots of torque down low, the video showes how lean the mixture was we had a hard time getting a good mixture with the 40mm carbs we had to go to 2mm needle and seats and run high fuel presser and 180 main jets with 130 air not the norm... it was run up 20 times to get the 40s to work OK , with 44s it was a hole lot nicer 3 runs and it was happy and making more hp from 2000rpm to 7600rpm Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 23, 2011 Moderators Posted July 23, 2011 Awesome work there Peter...I could imagine this L28 with some 50mm ITB's and a good ECU. Quote
peter mc Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 yep that and a big cam and it would make 300 + lots of fun for a road car the way it is, Quote
Roberto Posted August 27, 2011 Author Posted August 27, 2011 I collected a long awaited surprise from the post office today. A set of 44mm mikuni's with 39mm chokes from the USA. I will send them to Peter for his "treatment" and another engine dyno run soon. I have also commenced bracing my garage for removal of the existing L26 with block and tackle. I plan to paint the engine bay with POR-15 and a brush with the engine out. Has anyone done this before? What kind of results do you get? I am not after a show finish, just flat black and clean will be fine. Quote
Roberto Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 I pulled the L26 out tonight with my older brothers help. I am not sure whether to sell it or keep it as it is the original motor. I will hold onto it for a little while till I need the room. Time to get stuck into the engine bay now...... Quote
peter mc Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 heheh make shore its nice and clean the motor is very fussy Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 1, 2011 Moderators Posted September 1, 2011 Try to keep it if it is the original number engine...if you sold it how much would you get for it and later down the track how much wold you pay to find your original motor to buy it back? Strip the bits you don't need off it and keep the long motor.. Just my 2 pesos worth! Done that with my zed 4 times now...hopefully for the last time! You'll forget all of the hard work when the new motor is in...make sure you post a video..I wanna hear it! Quote

Strip the bits you don't need off it and keep the long motor.. Just my 2 pesos worth! Yeah, I think that's good advice Dimitri. I wouldn't get much $$ for the longblock anyway. make sure you post a video..I wanna hear it! Of course Is your engine in and running? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 2, 2011 Moderators Posted September 2, 2011 It is in and running.. I have to upload a video on youtube with Gordon (GL240GTR) at the wheel going around the Island. Ill probably do it tonight. Quote
garvice Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Turn the block into a mans coffee table. Then if you need to sell thee car you can hand on the block, but at least you are making out work for its space now. Quote
peter mc Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 hi Roberto some picks of the reco on the 44s and some of the work on the manifold to make them fit ,the new ram tubes will be hear tomorrow so there will be more picks soon Quote
