The real problem here is that like many people who are so keenly invested in what they do you fail to see the big picture. Yes minor details might be wrong but who cares?

 

For me, the big picture is probably different than what it is for you.

 

For better or worse (OK, definitely for the worse...) I have invested a lot of time, effort and emotion into trying to get the record straight about these cars. It's because I care about them, but - more personally - I have come to know some of the people who were responsible for creating them, racing them and rallying them. I kind of feel duty-bound to stick up for them and their work.

 

That has included working with journalists (both before and after the event) to supply them with accurate data, background info and history. They often get it wrong because they base their work on rogue information, the type that is propagated both directly and indirectly by those who say "who cares?". That seems a shame to me. 

 

I know that people like you take the p*ss out of me, but I'd rather try and try my best than not try. It seems to me that if we are going to care about something (and form clubs and forums dedicated to the cars) then we really ought to make the effort to do it properly.

Agno. I think you're missing a large point here. One can present cool cars of any type, and not comment using incorrect facts or data. I haven't watched the particular video in question, but as a viewer of Youtube content (and hopefully a provider soon) I want true facts, regardless of the topic.

 

The problem with repeating incorrect facts over and over again, as some people do (I'm not citing the above video here, but more general), that people start believing that these incorrect facts are true and that the truth is incorrect. It can be detrimental in some cases. On the topic of cars, someone who has an actually authentic original proper whatever car, tries to sell it for what it's REALLY worth, but over the years false information as spread rampant that cause people to think it's a fake.

I can come up with and I'm sure find many examples of repeated fallacies that have caused people to believe them. It's the perpetuation of fallacies that is the problem, not that the fact that someone gets a fact wrong every now and then.

I pretty much mentioned as much in a comment Six Shooter, but the example I gave was of a particular German who for a long time was credited with having designed the S30Z. I know Alan worked very hard to dispel that myth many years back and the good news is many articles I see now credit Yoshihiko Matsuo as the designer responsible. Yet every so often that German name creeps into an article. A name I not mention because it just helps to continue the misinformation about these cars.

 

Daniel can present these cars all day long on his channel and I'd have no problem with it and in fact appreciate it, but I just wish he would state information as fact if he hasn't double checked. If he doesn't double check be should be open to correction from those who do know.

 

The problem as Alan mentioned is that even though we have given him the information in the past he seems to just ignore it and do his own thing. Even deleting comments that don't seem to suit him.

 

Or worse still, seems to endorse comments from his supporters such as "Fairlady Z's are for fags". That is where I lose respect for him to be honest.

The guy is vague on nitty gritty minutea detail, on many many cars, on many of his videos.

He churns, repeat, churns these out for the adoring masses.

Like a lot of ther vdeographers.

Its a money ( hobby?) making venture, that he just likes doing.

 

Why dont the experts on these cars put up a video, a correct one, and allow it to be distributed?

 

My daughter does make-up, and the odd piss-take video, shes had well ver 1.5 million views, and a subscriber base of over 50,000,

She gets monthly residual cheques, from the mob that sell the side bar/banner advertising, and make-up companies get her to make "street/non pro" type vids.

More to t than you probably realise, and this Wasabi cars guy s into it as well.

That orange Z driven by Jon siddins and the Legacy assist Z were both setting great pace out the front in outright classic. until today when the legacy boys went off into a ditch into the back of a gt3 porsche resulting in a farely sad looking Z. Siddins is now a bit over 3 and a half minutes out front i think,  crash can be seen about 1:14 mark

Apart from the 'filler scenes', I quite enjoyed this. They produced a nice looking car, and the ITB's spiced things up

Agree it was generally better than most shows of this type. They mentioned the car being a 72 model, but I suspect it was more inline with 71 'features', given the early console, hand throttle and 907 Green colour (great colour by the way!).  I suspect it's a relatively low VIN # in the HS30 range, as we know it would be greater than HS30 00500 and lower than HS30 01500 - probably.

 

I'm not a huge fan of 'binning' the SUs because of 'hard starts' when in reality the SUs are fine provided you adjust the choke cables sufficiently and have them well tuned. But I guess they have to promote a product and the induction system would be a nice upgrade with fuel injection and actually looks ok in the engine bay too!

 

I did notice when the engine bay was blasted there was evidence of substantial previous repair work. Check out 26 mins and 23 seconds.

There was a big plate welded at the bottom of the front strut tower (which I've seen before!) and a long seam weld just above the chassis rails. Since it already had been patched up and the floors were shot, it does raise the question as to how much more 'rust' is hidden from view and how good the previous repair work and paint job was done. It certainly looked nice but what is hiding underneath?

 

It looks like the car had the original optional fog lights also. (see attached) - which I thought was cool. I also noticed the rear defrost glass in it, I wonder if UK cars had that as standard? It would make sense given the weather...

I've never seen a pair of the genuine S30-type factory foglights in the UK. I suspect the ones on this car are UK aftermarket.

 

Yes, HRW was standard equipment on proper UK market models. Usually only melted a few thin stripes of frost by the time I'd got to work, if I was lucky...

I've found that the majority of AU delivered cars (240z) didn't have the heated rear glass. I believe it was listed as optional in the parts manual. The RS30's (260z's) seem to have been much more likely to receive the heated rear windows, but by then it was the vertical style defroster glass.

 

I say more likely because even though most I've seen had it there has been a few anomalies I've seen recently. For example I was shown an RS30 (2 seater) the other day that didn't have air con fitted. Yet almost every 260z I've seen in Australia over the years had evidence of air con being fitted. Obviously some opted to go without.

 

Like I'm sure some owners of 240z's opted for the defrost glass, but overall it was definitely a minority.
