HS30-H Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Haha just watched the video and listened to the dribble. Then went back and looked at the "bad" comments. A couple of handles that look femiliar there. "Gav" and "lurcher". DO must be feeling very precious to have the reaction he has from just a couple of comments. They are comedic videos are they not?? Jeff Others would know better than me, but for operations like 'WasabiCars' isn't all traffic - good or bad - a revenue raiser for him? Essentially - one way or another - he makes money from his YouTube channel, does he not? YouTube comments sections are cesspits at the best of times (so more fool me for diving in...) but I don't get all the "hater" and "troll" comments. One of them is from 'Babalouie' from JNC (wow!). If anybody cares enough about the cars to watch the vids then surely they care enough to want accurate data about them too? I don't get it? Here's a link to one of his previous efforts (read all the comments for context) : Edit regarding the above video: The car is a 'normal' 432 that's been modified to look a bit like a 432-R. It's not a real 432-R... Edited April 3, 2016 by HS30-H gav240z 1 Quote

It's not a real 432-R... He probably gets a small amount of advertising commission, but his most watched video has 1M views, not really enough to make a living out of. More like a lifestyle subsidy. Probably doesn't cover his time, travel costs etc.. So he does it for the love of it. Maybe he sells a bunch of T-shirts though? Yeah Youtube comments are a free-for-all and I don't know why I bother either at times...It is what it is. I think the commenters don't really get it, they are just seeing it from Daniel's side, not the other side. Kevin (Babalouie) is a stickler for details so I'd be surprised if he doesn't want the facts to be correct. It's a shame if Daniel is taking the feedback the wrong way, I do enjoy seeing the cars on his channel, but his knowledge isn't always up to par. I just wish he would state when he isn't sure about something or rather not mention something unless he is sure it's accurate. I'm sure I'll cop some hate for my comment on his latest video. Best thing to do is not take it personally. Quote
rajon1972 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I think he's comments in retaliation are heart felt and genuine and I personally have never taken his videos as gospel. He provides light hearted entertainment and probably will never do another Z car clip again ! The amount of ridiculous posts I have seen posted on this sight from the supposed learned make this guy look like a genius quite frankly. Perhaps the divine need to step up and start there own channel and wait for the onslaught.. Quote
daretobedifferent Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I had a look at the comments section and in all honesty I think he has every right to be mad. I'm quoting two guys here, so I'm not pointing the finger at anyone else other than Alan T and Lurcher260; Alan T: "This is another shonky Wasabi Cars video that is full of mistakes." Lurcher260: "Nice Z, but dearly me SO MUCH utterly incorrect clap-trap sprouted in this video." Yeah you can voice your opinions but you don't have to be a w**ker. To sound like a cocky bastard for one second, I'm a young Automotive Engineer and I've worked on lubrication projects, protoype engines, automotive engine design and etc. I've only owned a 240z for about 8 months, but I'm pretty sure I know more about the L series engines than MOST (not all, but most) of the people on this forum who have owned Z's for 10+ years, only because I've got a background in engine design. I've seen some pretty uneducated posts on here but you don't see me running my mouth around, saying; "Mate you're an idiot, go to university, go get a job in the Automotive Engineering industry, keep on going and become the Head of Engineering and then ask me that question. By then they would already know the bloody answer?!?". Dan's a guy making youtube videos and he's an English teacher. Let me say that again, he's an English teacher. He hasn't had the luxury of owning a 240z to get really know all of the details. If you think that you know everything there is to know about a 240z, you're in over your head. If he gets it wrong, he gets it wrong. If the facts aren't correct, they aren't correct. Get over it, everyone makes mistakes. Quote
HS30-H Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Perhaps the divine need to step up and start there own channel and wait for the onslaught.. I don't like Justin Bieber much either. Does this mean I have to take my top off and sing other people's songs to pre-pubescent girls? Quote
HS30-H Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 daretobedifferent: I'm standing by my comment. It's (another) shonky Wasabi Cars video and it's full of mistakes (again). What part of that is wrong? If the guy went back and edited his videos a bit after certain details were called to his attention then it might not be so bad. But he doesn't, does he? We can all make mistakes, but the key is to learn from them and get better at it. gav240z 1 Quote

So to take your own advice, go back to your reply to my comment, re-edit it as you have made a mistake. Thats exactly how you sound mate. I think you guys just have to take two steps back and realise that you're being abit too harsh. I'm pretty sure you've misread something in your life more than once HS30-H (as have I). I agree with your next part, yes it would be great if he got all the details correct, and it is annoying when someone continuously makes a mistake but it is indeed hard for someone to track all of the comments over the last 3-4 years the channel has been active. Maybe instead, send him an email with all of his infractions (and your comments) at each segment/part of the video and deal with it that way. Also if you want someone to learn properly and do the best that they can, you shouldn't really call their work "shonky". Would any of you call this constructive criticism? Quote
HS30-H Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Kevin (Babalouie) is a stickler for details so I'd be surprised if he doesn't want the facts to be correct. That was one of the comments which confused me the most. I really don't get it. I'll ask him about it. Quote

Well it looks like comments have been disabled on the YouTube video. It went about how I expected it to go. I got called a fag, cancerous and got told to have sex more often and relax. Such is the level of intolerance for 'the facts' but hey most of the folks commenting on the channel are kids I'm sure.. Quote

It's another reason why I have no sympathy for the guy. He's quite happy to have reams of offensive and personal comments aimed at "Trolls" and "Haters" underneath his videos alongside the fawning praise, but deletes a lot of what he sees as negative views on his video content, hence making many of the subsequent comments meaningless. Did you see the comment asking Lurch to put a bullet in his own head? OK, some of us might feel that way sometimes, but the guy didn't even say please... Quote

Agno Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I'm going back to the Wasabi video because my brother just showed it to me. You guys need to grow up. Yes he got some facts wrong but he isn't an encyclopedic fountain of all things JDM and would rely heavily on what the owners tells him. So what if he gets some minor details things wrong at least he is propagating and spreading cool car videos to people who wouldn't see them otherwise, benefiting the whole Japanese car community. What do you guys gain from vilifying or cutting down someone like that so brutally? I love my car, appreciate and respect all the help people have given me along the way and respect the vast knowledge acquired by many on the various forums I frequent. In saying that though I have to put my hand up and say I think there are a small group of S30 owners who are some of the rudest and self important people I have ever had the (dis)pleasure of crossing paths with in the car scene... You know who you are. Quote

Nobody is expecting him to be, but the point remains we have had these discussions with him before, yet he chooses to ignore the input from others on such topics. Nobody expects him to know everything but the fact that he keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over.. Well it's like if I kept calling "260z's" "240z's" or I kept referring to the S30z as a Toyota 2000GT. At some point people will correct me. They are not the same and fair enough. Daniel chose to get upset about it... What do you guys gain from vilifying or cutting down someone like that so brutally? If you can show me where I've cut him down brutally I'll pay you the credit you deserve. I simply pointed out that he had got his facts wrong. Administrators gav240z Posted April 4, 2016 Administrators Posted April 4, 2016 Must mean Lurch then. Lurch is used to being the villain anyway, I think he actually likes it to be honest. So I'm sure it will be water off a duck's back. Quote
HS30-H Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 You guys need to grow up. So, how do you feel about the (umpteen) other people commenting on the Wasabi Cars vids, and what they are saying to - for example - Gav? I don't see anybody - let alone the Wasabi Cars character - admonishing them for the bile they are spewing. One of these character witnesses reckons I was probably raped by my father. If that kind of thing was posted on something that you had content control over, would you delete it? I think I would, no matter who it was aimed at. Quote
GongZ Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Oh well the whole video has been deleted now,... I see dead videos? It's still there on my 'interweb thingy'. Quote
HS30-H Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I see dead videos? It's still there on my 'interweb thingy'. It disappeared for awhile and has now reappeared. He's done a bit more 'housework', deleting certain stuff like he's done in the past, mucking up the continuity and context of the comments. Of course, he's on Twitter and Facebook too. On Facebook he's being quite jocular about panel thicknesses, and one of his followers has suggested buying "the trolls/haters" a micrometer. I think it's Daniel who needs it, seeing as he's the one who brought that particular topic up... Quote

I can't guarantee anything though because Youtube is full of awful, awful trolls... Like so many other people, you don't appear to have fully grasped the back story here. He HAS been approached politely and respectfully, has had some pretty indisputable facts given to him and has been offered the chance of back-up research before he adds his voice-overs, but it all just bounces off him. He deletes certain comments from videos and leaves all the out of context stuff there to stoke up his followers and channel subscribers. That's the whole reason why we've ended up being painted as 'Trolls' and 'Haters'. There simply isn't any chance of a meaningful exchange of reasoned views and hard data. A perfect example of this was from the start of his vid on the modified 432 that he thought was a 432-R, and I first started commenting on that video the best part of three years ago. At the start of the video he shows some photos of a green LHD 240Z, and the engine bay of a green 432. He says he's been contacted by a guy in the USA who has this car - an LHD 432 - and he's swallowed the story whole. Anybody can see - with only the most basic evidence - that they are two different cars! When that was pointed out to him he took it as some kind of personal attack and ended up deleting half the conversation. The whole video is still up, intact and unedited. Honestly I used to feel embarrassed for him, but he's his own worst enemy. Quote
Agno Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 My goodness, me too? The real problem here is that like many people who are so keenly invested in what they do you fail to see the big picture. Yes minor details might be wrong but who cares? He's showing off cool cars to people who wouldn't previously have thought about them, therefore making our cars cooler to a larger audience and more desirable overall. The devil can be had in the detail when they dig deeper, by then his video is irrelevant. If you don't like it just turn it off. It seems simple enough to me! Quote
