CBR Jeff Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 Between celebrating Christmas and the New Years arrival with family and friends in all parts of the country it's been a hectic week. Back home now for two weeks before we head off to the northern hemisphere for a few weeks. The dry build continued today with the Installation of the radiator and overflow bottle, battery support bracket and the EFI relay panel on the fire wall. The last item also requiring the fitting of the heater box and fan. Quite a few holes have been drilled and nutserts installed. Jeff KatoKid 1 Quote

CBR Jeff Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 I have finally managed to get my priorities correctly aligned. A few sessions in the shed this week sees the build back on track. Exhaust has finally been fitted, after an amount of ginning around on my behalf. I'm happy but it may need a slight tweak at the rear as it's not quite central in the exit cutout, but that might just be some OCD on my part? The box to hold and protect the ECU has been fabricated and painted. The nutserts installed to hold this assembly in the passengers side foot well. At the same time I have been looking at what wiring is required to get this all completed. I'm still mulling over a few options. The steering columb, pedal box and old seats have been fitted to check alignment and seat position. At the same time I have fitted the new but old style seat belts just to be sure they fit appropriately and are comfortable, they do and they are. I knew the new mags would fit but there is nothing like actually fitting them just to erase any fears I may have stuffed up. They do and they look very nice. As the wheels were on I gave it a string wheel alignment, to double check a few measurements and because I could. A few holes have been drilled and a few have been marked to be welded up prior to paint. Back off to the shed for the afternoon because I can....... Jeff Quote

CBR Jeff Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Back at it yesterday. The blond and the red head went shopping so went to the shed ?. My OCD got the better on me so I spent a few hours tweaking the exhaust. It is a big drain pipe that fits in a small place! Getting clearance sorted in one place created a problem somewhere else. All good now, it was just a mm here or there. Fuel tank is in place and it all fits perfectly, started to sort out the fuel lines, filter etc and now have a shopping list. Bolted some of the components into the engine bay to confirm placement and the need for the holes. Spent a bit of time shortening and modifying the accelerator linkage. Mounted the air temp sensor. Put the padding in the ecu box and fitted it. Spent some time cleaning threads of incapsulated nuts. Mounted the front guards to check fit. Cleaned up had a beer and a swim. Might get back today but need to fit in brunch and a MTB ride around the ridge at the back of home first. Jeff C.A.R. and 260DET 2 Quote

If you have a dig around the forum you will find its the same as a few others have used. From EFI Hardware. Its a Commodore in tank pump. Lurch modified the tank for me while he was working at LCR and did a great job. It makes for a simple fuel line set up with no return line. Jeff Quote
CBR Jeff Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) Managing to get a few more hours in the shed so progressing. Ticked a few items of in the last few days. Marked a few holes to be filled, repaired a couple of threads, drilled a few holes and inserted a couple of nutserts. Also started a project I have been contemplating for some time this afternoon. I like the idea and look on an undertry on a car. It enhances the air flow through the radiator and out of the engine bay. It enhances the look of the car from both the front but particularly from above when looking into the engine bay. CBR Jeff Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 A bit of time in the shed this afternoon. It was time to remove the engine and gearbox again. Basically I have achieved most of the things I wanted to when I started the dry build so it's time to return the shell to the rotisserie and finish of a few items. The shell has marker scribbles all over it now and the list of jobs to do has grown some what over the last week. I'm glad I decided to take the time to do this, I have found quite a few threads and mountings that needed repairing or replacing, quite a few holes that needed drilling and a couple that are no longer needed that can now be filled in. These can now all be done before paint. The undertray manufacturer also progressed today. A few hours tomorrow and this should be finished. Jeff Howdy 1 Quote

Cleaned and checked all the treads on the fasteners for these items and confirmed what holes I can fill. Rocky was down supervising as usual but decided that sleeping in the sun was better. Yep these things take time. 24 months ago I was still cutting and shutting rusted bits. 12 months ago I was still cleaning the shell and Les had just assembled the engine.
