Has anyone checked this one out? Surprising that hasn't old yet.

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14901-solid-240z-260z-2-seater/

If it's the same car...he says WA but the plates on the car are NSW so not sure if it's the same car.

Don't want a rust bucket project and the clean green 260 auto in WA isn't quite so clean.

Honestly if the green car is solid it looks like a very reasonable buy and price.

price drop helps...but does have rust coming through in a few areas that require glass coming out etc (I got additional photos). no idea to the extent though - so figured paying more for something already fixed/manual was the g-o..

1973 Datsun 240z - Matching Numbers.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111990528223

Current bid:AU $1,575.00
Time left: Time left: 6d 04h (15 May, 2016 18:22:28 AEST)
Item location: Ballina, New South Wales, Australia

I'm pretty sure it's Curtis 240z advertising it.

For auction is this 1973 Datsun 240z matching numbers car. The car was originally brown with tan interior and was bought for a donor car but considering it is matching numbers and the price of a restored 240z increasing in value it would be worth saving. The dash is complete and most of the engine compartment is there, the motor is a bare block and I was told it needed rings. Most of the interior is there but will all need an overhaul. The doors are rusty along with the floors, roof which had a sunroof and there is rust in the firewall and the battery tray where they commonly go. The tailgate has been replaced with a fibreglass one. This car is not for the faint hearted but is still fixable.
Please note the gearbox pictured does not come with the car but will be sold with another gearbox.

I purchased the car in 2014 and started an eight-month project to lovingly restore the car to a standard for every day use. My reasons for selling the car is money for a deposit on a house and my father has purchased a 260Z and says I can use it …great!

Mechanical:-

The odometer reading of 83,700 is of no value in accessing the mechanical condition of the vehicle.

The engine is a standard L28 with twin SU carburettors and DMS electronic ignition.

The engine manifolds and exhaust header have been ceramic coated to reduce radiated heat in the engine bay.

Carburettors removed serviced and balanced.

The gearbox has been rebuilt and a new clutch fitted.

The back axle is a R200, 1:3.9 ratio.

New aluminium radiator fitted.

New water pump, thermostat housing and fan belt fitted

New clutch slave cylinder and hose fitted.

New brake hoses and front brake pads fitted.

New front suspension “A” section bushes fitted.

Wheel rims refurbished and new tyres fitted.

New exhaust fitted.

New battery.

New electric aerial

Car body:-

Doors, front wings, bonnet and hatch panels removed, bead blasted and primed with 2-pack paint and the remaining external body shell paint was removed mechanically and primed with 2-pack paint.

Bonnet leading edge found to be rusty, affected section cut out and a new section fabricated and welded in place.

Rust in rear quaters cut out and new prefabricated piece welded in place. Rust in sill section between doors and wheel arch cut out and fabricated section welded in place.

Car painted in Nissan white 2-pack.

Assembly:-

New nuts, bolts, screws, clips used in the reassembly process.

New weather seals used.

Sealant used on panel seams on refitting.

Doors, bonnet, hatch and internal shell/frame cavities treated with Mill-Spec rust proofing system.

Windows re tinted

Decals detailed

Under side: -

Pressure washed and Mill-Spec rust proofing system applied to underbody and internal sections of the chassis and sills.

Cabin area:-

Dash removed and recovered.

The car is fitted with a Pioneer CDA9886 sound system.

You would have trouble trying to convince a scrap metal dealer to pick that up! Wasting your time trying to  give the kiss of life once rigor mortis has set in.

It did sell in the end. So either someone is going to restore it or it will be used for parts. I suspect parts, but cannot be sure.

Yeah run ;). Judging by the amount of rust you can see in the ad and fact that it looks like it's been outside a long time and the weather in which it is likely been subjected to, it looks like a parts car.

It can be tempting to jump on a cheap car, but in the long run you'll save so much more money buying a car like this:

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/?p=177607

(White 260z 2+2 above) and you'll be able to enjoy it immediately. Unless you're looking for a project and to develop rust repair skills?

$26,000 is cheap considering what it would cost to restore the black rust bucket.

yeah im not looking for something to jump into to be honest want something i can restore with my old man keep him busy in his retirement... in saying that neither of us have experience in rust repair but we have both worked on mechanical stuff before... any idea what rust would cost to repair on the black parts bucket?

I would guess $15k for body work alone (no paint)...but you would be far better off starting with a better car like I said. When metal on these cars becomes pitted from rust it also gets very thin making repair hard work. Buying a car like this would make sense if you found a similar year 260z 2+2 shell with minimal structural rust but it didn't come with many parts. You would use the parts off the black car to complete another. As much as I would like to save all of them, you also have to be realistic and start with the best candidate. Buy the best car you can afford and start from there. It's far less frustrating also.

thanks for the tips and putting it in to a more realistic option before i did something stupid... so that ones out.. saves me going from nsw to vic too :P

... so many of these rusty bodies for sale lately.. I would actually like to see how much car was left after the sand blaster has taken to them.

Do not do it. As Gav said, start with a cleaner base.

In the long run it is cheaper to buy finished car tho but not as fun, unless you are really handy with tools that is.

Me and my step brother have a complete 2+2 that is way better than the one you are looking at and a mint shell to suit. PM me. I might be able to convince my step brother to part with them.
