  1. Now fellas, I think you have all missed the point. There is only one vehicle that truly ticks all the boxes and that is a 80 series Landcruiser. There is simply no better daily driver on the planet. First of all they are - reliable, mega reliable - ours has done nearly 500,000km and all we have done is change the oil and put tyres on it!! Sure parts can be a bit expensive, but you don't need them, Toyota must have warehouses full of 80 series parts. Secondly they will tow anything, anywhere..get your Cat D9 bogged, roll in the Cruiser!! Parking?? That's never a problem, people move out of the way when you're in a supermarket car park, that my friends, is real respect! Dent wise the only thing that will hurt them lives in a mine site, trust me nothing else will even scratch them. I once Liberarchied a lady in a Tarago who stopped in the middle of a merge lane and it shortened the people mover but didn't even scuff the chrome on the Cruiser. Want to head off around Australia, just chuck the tent and the esky in the back and off you go. Sure they use a bit of fuel, but once you're behind the wheel of the big girl the price of fuel will soon forgotten as the pure driving pleasure takes over. Who needs handling at highway speed anyway, it's overrated. They don't register on the Police radar, mine has 11.5 inch wide tyres, modified suspension, big air intake, flairs, and the coppers don't look twice, try this on any other car and see how many defects you get! You can also hold your head up when talking to people...'so what do you drive mate?' 'A Cruiser', you can't do this with a Camry, or a Pulsar or some hairdressers car. Trust me and get a 80 Series Cruiser....or a Datsun 1600, but dont get me started on that!
  2. The 'sox' on my L20 were worth 4 hp when they were taken off on the dyno, so let's say 6 hp on a good L28, small price to pay on a road car. An airbox, in theroy, should work better, so well worth a try.
  3. No worries galderdi, I'll whip up a template and get a set made.
  4. If your doing the rear quarter windows, put me down or a set as well, cheers, Hodgo
  5. LOL, mate this is so far off topic it's not funny, but this is the equlivent green bike to your Zed.....an ex works KX-500
  6. It's seem's all well dressed Tasmanian Zed owners are being seen in Yellow and Blue this winter....
  7. Man, you could shave with that one of yours Jason! 14kg! she must spin up like a YZF450! baaazzzing. Nitriding is on my list as well Nueby, some people say it makes the crank brittle, but I think it's worth the risk. If your not already, I'd be looking at a lighter flywheel as well, there are other benifit's other than spinning the engine up quicker.
  8. Knife-edged/Profiled, or something else? Very interesting....
  9. Mate, Magic colour! like what's in the background of the bottom photo as well, is that the 1600 coupe race car? Is that the KBR coatings on the inside of the car as well or something different? Cheers
  10. Thank's guy's, my mates has a some of 'lagging' around the exposed bit's so that might be the difference? I'm getting a std L28 crank off Scando this weekend so i'll weigh that as well. Very interesting....
  11. A mate of mine down here just weighed his LD crank at 24.7 kg.....
  12. Some good reply's there. In the picture it seems to be missing a lot of equipment, eg grill, headlight's etc, but they may have been taken off to do the bodywork etc. There is no mention of parts in the add, and if I was chasing top dollar for a shell I would at least drag it to a better location for a pic and give it a clean up. Hopefully a 'Purist' will pay top dollar and do a full restro. When does a chassis number stop being a low number? 300, 500 or 1000? when do you stop calling your Zed a 1969? no-5, 50, 500? this one is advertised as a '69.
  13. Thank's Mike, you read my mind.
  14. Some more.... Surely you have a few good ones Graham??? Any of the Devonish family looking at this? you must have heaps?
  15. The Jon Siddens/Darren Ferguson 240Z in Targa this year. Photo's were 'borrowed' from the Targa tas website
  16. G'day, I was wondering if anyone had a std L28 crank lying around could you pop it on the bathroom scales and get me a weight, Cheers Hodgo
  17. Howdy guys, I just got the latest Unique Cars mag with big Lenny's Mustang on the cover, and spotted a rough looking 240Z shell on page 246, covered in junk and looks to be sitting out the back of a shed amongst some other junk. It's claim to fame is that it is number 325 and the owner want's $10,000. If Lurch paid less than $100,000 for his he got a bargan! LOL Now I'm not being critical here, good luck to them, If it sells it makes all our cars more valuable, but do you think ten gee's is a bit optomistic?
  18. Good work big fella, that's the phone call we all dream of making!! I'll have that LD crank for your re-build soon, LOL.
  19. I'm 38 and a bit, same age as my 1600, and depending on who you talk to, 1 or 2 years younger than my Zed....
  20. Good work, Sidden was having a big crack on the Saturday and crashed out in the Hellyer Gorge stage, about 15 minutes from my place. If you went on the Tassie Tour, you know the Stage!! He was making in-road's into Rex Broadbench's lead until then. bugger!
  21. Nice car! Any idea's what that extra fuel rail is near the trumpets? Some sort of fuel return?
  22. I was a bit shocked a couple of years ago, a new guy joined our local car club with a 300zx twin turbo, he said he was in the Zed car club(??), but wanted to try some racing, great, my mate and I were talking to him, and asked about the Zed club, and he said they don't menion the "D" word as it was embarrassing!! Little did he know he was talking to 1600 and a 180B owner. Dont like the new Zed's now...LOL
  23. The rear end is near perfect galderi, have you got coil overs in the front? remember what you take out of one side, you must add it to the other side. A Zed's weight dist is a mile better than a 1600! I might have to sit in the rear seat, extend the steering wheel boss and tie bricks to my shoes....or finish my Zed! lol. Just a quick question, were they asking people to disconect there swaybars when they were weighed?
  24. So Dimitri, with the huge amount of RB turbo parts/info out there, is the N/A engine the other end of the scale? were cam's, good high comp pistons, good info etc hard to get hold of? At the end of the day, most people who do a conversion, go for a turbo RB, great power, plenty of support and hot up parts, relativly easy, where abouts if you want to stay N/A the same can be said for the L series?
  25. Howdy Mike, Is that the under 3 litre LD cranked motor you sometimes talk about? Cheers, Hodgo
