I hope everyone had a top Christmas and are gearing up for a big New Year! Funny how things pan out, I just dug out an Australian Classic car mag with a picture of my Zed in it for the ex-owners son to look at and there was an article on a Bol D'or held at Catalina held on Feb 28th 1998, (A Bol D'or is basically a one hour regularity with a pit stop). When was it Shut? Hodgo

Happy Birthday muscles, I hope you get a red fluffly hat. Crikey, I used to buy those showbag's every year, great value, had a really cool ruler if I remember correctly...man I love chocolate. Oh and how's good this, I helped fund a great Datsun collection...man, you owe me a Option 1..

Cheers Ben, I had a talk to a paint shop today that sold 'DNA' brand chrome paint looked the good's, then had epiphany...It's a race car.
-
Cheer's Guy's...Saw it out in the sun light today, man it's bright!! Spoke to the 'Spray Chief' Guy today re chrome paint and he said it's not that good on bumpers...so I had a chat to my signwriter and you can get chrome vinyl but he said it wouldn't stretch enough to get aound the tight corners of the bumpers and would need a few join's and again wasn't keen which is a shame as they have some very cool colours etc like brushed alum...anyway were going black and see how she looks. Got new windscreen and rear hatch rubbers this week and the new screen will go in when the dash is re fitted, so all moving along very well. Looking into Fuel pumps, surge tanks and injectors next...

OK OK here you go, Bonnet, hatch, headlight buckets to go, plus what colour should I do the bumpers? they are fibreglass so chrome is out of the question. I'm thinking body colour or the same silver as the rims but paint man, wife and accountant think black.... We had our final car club event for the year last Saturday, the Highcleare Hillclimb and Mick (V8) came an excellent second in class E whilst Mick (yellow 240Z L28) won class C. Mick (yellow) has his finger on the Zed pulse and was saying there are at least another 4 Zed's in the build in Tassie, of which at least 2 are race/rally cars, so look out!! Mick (V8) looked fantastic off the start line and sounded great. Cheers Hodgo

Hi Guy's Just been talking to Tony Wright, the Director of Rally Tas. He told me that Rally Tas/Classic Rally is no more but he will be replacing it with a 3 round Tasmanian Tarmac Rally series. He is hoping for weekend event's, ie pace noting, paperwork, scrut, two stages on the Saturday with a full day on the Sunday and hopefully finished early enough Sunday for the mainlanders to get back to the boat. He's hoping the price will be around $950 a round and the event will be open to Classic, modern and 'Clubman' Rally cars. Clubman won't be able to get series points but it opens it right up to a large varity of cars..bloody ripper!! So..Say if you had a ..gees I dunno know..a 2 seater 280zx you could pop a RB turbo in there and race, or a N/A 240/260z twin cam RB or throttle bodies on your L series, SR20T in a Bluebird or Gazelle, N/A SR20 1000, 1200, 1600, 1 Bob or 200B etc 50mm flairs, fibreglass bodywork.. If you live in Vic it makes it easy to knock off work Fri, hop on the boat, race for the weekend and be home for work on Monday. Hopefully Tony can get it all up and running, he has 30 entries already for the first round including Jim Richards. Hodgo

Top work Adam, looking foward to seeing it finished. So guy's whats the hot ticket with building a heat sheild? use the good ACL sheeting and hang it off the thick washers that go between the inlet manifold and the extractors? Cheers -
Cheers, the headers are SWR. Car goes into the bodyworks on Wednesday to get finished off, so hopefully a coat of jam in the next few weeks...

That poor poor gearbox....We really should do better background checks on this forum and please, if any of these unsavoury characters contact you about selling a Datsun gearbox, dont do it, it's simply wrong. We as a forum really should be starting up a fighting fund to buy up unwanted gearboxes so they don't get into their dark and evil Lucas loving hands.... -
Jessie R is running his boxy Datsun this year not his 240Z and I just heard the trick 240K from Qld and Cuthberts 200b have pulled out, which is a bugger. There will be a R30 from Tassie running, if actepted.... Hope you dont get rounded up by a 2 door Plymouth Jase....

Looks likes Siddens won the prologue in classic and posted the 18th fastest time over all!

LOL you beat me to it Jase, Your right it would be great to see, and that tarmac rally car you mentioned is pretty quick!! What's there weight? and Nb would be the class if you clould get it in!!

Good thinking Dave!! In 1964 the factory ran two 1300ss in the Sandown 6 hour under the Scuderia Veloce team. They entered a team of three Bluebirds in the 1965 Bathurst but pulled them out after practice. They didn't compete in the race due to cracking steel wheels. In 1966 they entered a team of 4 at Bathurst and won class A. The first one rolled of the Australian production line in Nov 24, 1966. You would have too prove that one competed in the Australian Touring car championship during that period and I'm not sure that Bathurst counts being a stand alown race?? Jason Ol' bean, what's your understanding? Your next step is read the on line CAMS manual-historic and then contact the 'The Historic Touring Car Eligibility Commitee'. Try and get hold of a set of FIA Homolgation papers, if avalible and a workshop manual. If you could get it passed as 1964 you should be able to run Nb(pre-1965) or Nc (1965-1972) after that. Engine size in Nc is std stroke and 1.5mm overbore only. Bodywork and fittings 'Must be as supplied by the manufacturer' As for the 2+2, Gordon Dobie said in his post they were pulled out before the race because they didn't comply to the 'Touring car' rules, I presume interier size dimentions?? I always thought a 1600 would be hopeless in Nc against the 2002's and GTV's given the smaller engine and 4 speed but I'm being proved wrong!! might be another option Dave. Would be a lot easier to get sorted.... Hodgo

Sounds like our Uncle Kelv is having a blast!!

Magic, Yeah I was in contact with Pete Hall during the weekend, he was pretty pumped! A young guy from our car club, Adam House was also running his R1 powered open wheeler, he's quick down here, but I suspect he was off the pace in the 'big game', It's all good experience though. Like Herr DET asked, is there a link to result's?
