Hey everyone,

I'm currently faced with selling my first Z and it got me thinking, does anyone still own their first Z and if not, do you know where it is??

My First Z was a 260 2 door, ex Steve cox rally car, not the white one that Dat2kman sat in to win a trophy, but the one that eneded up on its roof. I played with it for a couple of years and eneded up racing it in Division 2 Marque sports cars in NSW. The car ended up being split between the shelf at Z16 in western Sydney and in my second Z. As an ex rally car the shell was in very ordinary condition, you could jack one corner up and couldn't open or close either door or the bonnet, a few years of rallying really took its toll, even with a full cage welded into it.

21 years now, and like a good loyal car, she has followed me from Sydney, to QLD and now in Perth for the past 8 years. This one was my first, and at this stage the only one. Just as much fun to drive now as back then. I couldn't be without it, though I really dont drive it as often as I'd like, in the past 21 years I have only covered 24k miles.

I have had my Zed ( 1976 260z) for about six years now. Sits in the shed till I have the urge to change something on it or go for a drive around town. Usually once every 2 or 3 months. I have done a total of 3000 kms in this time. I also occassionally do some work on my project 1981 280zx when time permits.

Mine is a 1983 280zx purchased in 1994 and I still have it on the road. My brother had a 260z 2+2 back in the late 80s in Sydney. I'd love to know where that one is too.

My first zed is owned by an NDSOC club member with an RB30/25 combo motor in it and my second zed is in WA with an RB26DETT. Still miss the first one till this day!

My first 240 could be anywhere and it took me a lot of years to get the current 260 2+2. My mate still has his 76 260 2+2 that he bought way back in 78 and he has never had another car since recently inheriting his dad's Honda. The Z is still in great condition and was driven from Roma to Hervey Bay a couple times a year and has never let him down. It is retired now with club rego along with about three motorbikes of vintage origins. When I get parts for mine now I contact him and slowly he is refreshing the old girl. Still pulls his 16foot boat out of the water. Would hate to pull it apart though with all the fish oil etc he has pumped into it over the years. Next time at the Bay will take some pics and post up.

My first Zed is a 1977 gold, auto, almost totally original (now has round top carbs), 2+2 which has, and continues to, served me well as a daily driver from the time I bought her nearly 8 years ago. Has never let me down on the road and is a GREAT drive. She helps me commute between family (not my own) farming properties and enjoys an open road bitumen drive as much as a gravel road or a chase after cows in the paddock. My predominantly red cloud kelpie dog just loves the navigators seat.

Despite the ravages of rust she continues to perform reliably and has just undergone a recent mechanical refresh which should see her through for the next 3+ years or so at which time I thought she might be retired to be a donor car for my other two zeds. However, she is such a great performer that she may well undergo a body refresh or be somewhat reluctantly sold to a suitably motivated enthusiast.

This car is one of the best I have ever owned.

Someone (apparently kids) trashed every panel on my little 2 seater 260 whilst a friends dad was swapping the engine for me out of an old skyline (with a L26).

He said it wasn't his responsibility as I wasn't a customer of his shop and it happened just off his property.

I bought another car, that same friend's dad said he'd swap over my carby's, gearbox and diff. But then he said he didn't remember me wanting the manual gearbox and says he threw that away with my prize diff that he claimed was rubbish and thew it out.

My friend supported his dad and said I was blowing things out of proportion.

He ended up swapping over the carby's for me and the engine. But I lost my car. I lost my gearbox, and I lost my diff.

Went from a nice 2 seater manual, to my current 2+2 auto with auto diff.  :-\

So that first car went to the wreckers along with the friendship.

Bad times. Finally got this new one a manual gearbox. Still saving for a nice diff. :'(

.. my first 1971 240Z is actually in Sydney. Was bought by a bloke called Joe in about 98 and he's been working on it since. I only onwed the car for about 12 weeks (long story here), but he recently told me it had a 260Z rear end, 280Z box, vented bonnet and some rust when I sold it to him. It is a 71 model, like my current car, and when I had it, it was great. I remember hitting 95 MPH on the M2 motorway one night going to pick up my girlfriend thinking how quick it was for a 71 car. Aside from the driveline changes, it was a standard L24 with an extractor kit on it.

I'm planning on meeting up with Joe when the Hornet's done to compare notes. That car was great, it was painted an old english white and had the jelly bean wheels. Very memorable.

I still have mine but it's a bit modified now. I sold my first car a blue datsun 1600 to buy the Z. It was all original, had been in storage for 12 years, original radio, white wall tyres.

Here's an old pic, had the Z for 12months by then.
