Thanks Hunter, although the color is a little deceptive as in the right light is way more orange than yellow.

Hi Rev,

I love the look of your white faced guages. Can you tell us a little bit about them. Make, model, where you got them etc. Where they easy to instal? I think I might have to get them as well.

yeah rev, I wanted a colour between the datsun orange and yellow that I have on my car. More orange showing though. By the way what colour is that you have used?

I was thinking mustang orange/yellow  which is close to what you have.

they look like the speedhut ones.

they do look good. only comment would be with white face and white dial makes it harder to read. i had similar on my z. but replaced it with the red needles. lot easier to read.

u got to keep ur eyes more in front and not trying to read the dials u never know if a Lancer is lurking from a side street.  >:(

BTW excellent work Dave. u quick, quality is awsome and the car is allready very hot and its not even completed.

Yep, Johnny is correct, they're Speedhut gauges from the States.  Easy to order and the customer service is very good.  I had one gauge face that didn't work properly and they replaced it very quickly.  My son Benji did the install which he said was quite easy.  They are available in a number of backlit colors I got the blue which i thought would allow me to see my gauge needle pretty well at night.  Be happy to show you when they are all running.

I can't remember on the 2 seater 260Z but I did have a problem on my 2+2 that the aftermarket fuel electric fuel pump I put on I had to mount lower for a better gravity feed situation to get the pump to get push fuel through to the carbies.  I got a feeling they have a mechanical pump can't remember?

forgot to mention glass is in  ;D Now to hook up all the electrics, oil in gearbox and quite a few of the fiddly bits and pieces! ETA 2-3 weeks!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I can't believe it.  I'm getting a little toey in anticipation.  :P  Have really enjoyed this thread/build.  Can't wait till you start another one!!  ;D

Well, today we got the engine all hooked up and turned the key and....after quite a bit of cranking we did get it to start but it ran like a ruptured duck (I never actually seen a ruptured Duck but I'd bet it wouldn't be pretty!) So not sure what the next step is as I have exhausted my knowledge in this area.  It could be the triples need some work to be dialled in.  Any ideas?

I bet it is the triples. You need to speak to my brother Rev. He has a book and just set all his 3 after an engine rebuild last week. He said it started first shot and idled perfectly after he set the carbies to the spec in the beek. I am sure he would lend it to you. PM me if you want me to put you on to him.

Find out what Mains, Idles, Emulsion tubes, Air correctors you are running and post it up. I could give you a very good start on near perfect setup for standard or modified engine. I have the book also.

As we all know Dellorto Tuning can be it's own thread. I just talked to Rev and his Dellortos Run;

240 Air correctors

7772.10 Emulsion Tubes

145 Mains

55 Idles

The idle circuit has not been reduced and this configuration is standard for a Alfa they would have came off.

I've suggested that Rev runs

210 or 230 Air correctors

140 Mains

46 idles

The Emulsion tubes are fine but Rev still runs points ignition which is the first thing to change.

Then swap the jets out.

This guy has 45's and 48's idles.

This fella has Mains but i should be able to help with them.

I'm sure i've seen 46's idle jets but i can't seem to locate the guy ATM.

Also reduce the idle circuit which is on the first page of this thread.

Other factors come into play such as Choke size, float level, pump jets but this combination i've tried and varied but found it works best but naturally a Dyno would be the best solution. Also here is the thread of the jets i have. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,5919.msg51510.html#msg51510

That should keep you busy rev. Should save you some time surfing the forum.

Rev, I did a Google search on 'ruptured duck' and it came back with valve timing and ignition timing.  I can't remember if you've had this motor apart or not, but ignition timing would be the first I'd check.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!BIG thanks to Dimitri for enduring a couple of cold nights to help me over the hurdle!  We fitted up the electronic ignition, new coil, new plugs etc and success, still running a little rough but this could be jetting and the fact that I had probably dumped that much fuel into the cylinders trying to get it started!  This coming week I hope to get the exhaust fitted up, electrics finished and color sanded, then last bit of tidy, paint and fit spoiler (front and rear) and then off for a RWC - Could I make it for the Buxton Burger run.....it'll be close!

Great to hear Rev! what way is it running rough? If it's rough on partial throttle make sure you check the airflows on the back(5+6) carb, that's the only one that gave me probs.

Posted

When it's idiling you put an airflow meter on the end of each trumpet (1+3+5, or 2+4+6) and check the readings, they should all read the same. With my car the 3rd carb or 5+6th cylinder used to change every 4-6mnths, it's that funny dual linkage that needs to be adjusted. I could always tell cause it'd be a pig on partial throttle but then ok when at 100%. My engine only runs 8.5 comp so would think they should be pretty close.

I have a carb syc and can loan it or give you a hand to check them  :)
