reverendzed Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 This is a 'no pic' update for now. I've been hearing Serpent tell stories of his polyester primer etc so always willing to learn and experiment went out and got some polyester high fill and....WOW This stuff is awesome! it's a 2 pac application where you lay down about 4 double header coats with about 5 minutes flash off in between, I left it overnight and then begun to sand. The finish is like nothing I've ever used, it fills the imperfections and comes out smooth as! I've just found a new best friend! Can't wait to prime and topcoat BUT lots of knocking back of the high fill first :-\ Rev. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Rev, you stole my thunder ! DAMN you...........LMAO Glad someone else took the plunge also, but please tell me you knocked back dry block and not wet? and I have to ask what brand ? Cheers John Quote
zzzzed Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 we use it all the time at work im sure its PPG Quote
reverendzed Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Thought that it was time for an update. I underestimated the time I would need to spend on the Ol' fashioned 'hammer & dolly' work on the guards I think I probably spent about 10 hours per side and probably 5 hours per side on the doors! But after almost giving up I'm happy with the result. Just got engine bay left to do and inspection flaps and I'm ready for a bit more Polyester high fill, run back, prime and topcoat...not long now. Also got the rubber on the new wheels and it looks ok! Rev. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 23, 2010 Administrators Posted February 23, 2010 Looking the goods Rev, what colour are you going to go with on this 1? Or is it secret for now? Quote
reverendzed Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Hey Gav, I'm still undecided to some degree, choices right now is Omaha Orange, Octane Orange or a red/orange. Rev. Quote
reverendzed Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Well I had some fun on the weekend, went to fit up the headlight buckets onlt to find that like most Zeds there was uneven gaps between the fender and the cone...so I came up with an idea that worked fantastic. I thought I would post some pics in case anyone else encountered the same problem. What I did first was to make a template out of thick card that would protrude about 2cm around the guard and bucket, I then bolted it together and applied body filler up to the card on both sides. When this had hardened well I then did a rough sand to remove most of the excess filler. I then removed the bucket from the fender, removed the card (carefully) and then reattached the bucket. Then using a hand flat sander made sure that I sanded accross the fender and bucket to make sure they were even. Separate the bucket again and sand a small chanfer (beveled edge connecting two surfaces) on the bucket and guard. Prime both surfaces and reattach...and presto perfect gaps with factory appearance. C.A.R. Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Very cleaver mate! You must be getting close to paint by now...? (BTW hows the neck/back?) Quote
reverendzed Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Last coat of primer, ready for final sand on the weekend and paint hopefully next week! YAY!!!!! Quote
Sirpent Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hey rev Looks great, so this is the primer over the EP? How did you find sanding the EP back, was it worth the time and effort? Cheers John Quote
reverendzed Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 Thanks for the encouragement. The EP is fantastic and a real winner in getting a smooth substrate. Couldn't help myself today had to lay down some color, so now everyone knows where this is going. The color is FORD OCTANE ORANGE and yes it is in your face! Rev. Quote
Sirpent Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH My Bro from Sydney is going to creme himself when he see's this Rev, thats the color he wants although I have got a very similar color on a Lambo posted in my Gallery which he also likes. Nice Rev, very period but very contemporary also. Is it 2K or acrylic? Im about to head into the bedroom with my girlfriend also and see if I can finish the nose today and tomorrow........... Cheers John Quote
reverendzed Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 Hey John...yeah I hope once the whole thing is done that I don't feel it's too much, anyway add some chrome on the exterior and a full new interior with lambo style seats and it should look the goods! I'm using Acrylic, under the bonnet I put some retarder and use Aclac for thinning and it holds quite a good gloss, I can't be bothered trying to sand and cut that back. Have fun with your Zed today. Rev. Quote
Brabham Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Nice work Rev, is that the current color on Falcons? Very McLaren Can-Am...nice Quote
