Polishing polishing polishing.

You will have to just clear coat this. It will be a travesty to cover it in paint.

Nice work John.

Jeff

No going down Kato's route with the KBS I'm afraid LOL

Greetings

Thought Id chime in, had a rough last 12-18 months but pleased to say I'm above ground, seemed to have recovered and am back on the tools.

Will hopefully be updating in the near future.

Cheers

John

Ok so I’m back on the tools but no have some items surplus to my needs

I imported the U.S. made Bad Dog 240Z rail extensions, masterfully made but due to the rear sway bar set up on my car I’d rather not hack and modify them so I’m going down the custom fabrication path instead

Also left and right hand Rare Spares floor pans and rails, they sit fine but once again my manic state tells me to go custom pans and rails considering the tunnel mod

So all in all around $850 worth of metal up for grabs as a complete fit out shipped for $750

Merry Christmas all

PM if interested

Ok

So many will think me mad, no matter after much deliberation this was the way I decided to go. The replacement rails and floor just won’t do it for me as they are perfectly fine for a 240Z rests but not for this hybrid build, so it was back to the drawing board and that moment of no return as you start to cautiously cut away small portions of metal at a time working your way through what you imagined and what the shell will and won’t allow you too do.

The 2mm RHS channel is 65x35 mm, a perfect match to the original width of the Z rail, so I needed to literally feel my way through the cut process to work out how to graft a new rail section to the original metal and then work out how to reinforce the lot with tailored gussets forward and aft at the end.

this set up will allow me to run custom ribbed flat pans, the original 260 rails and pans had more dips and peaks than a Sydney north shore suburb, the replacements would never work properly.

I took a pic of the perfectly good Z rail cut away sitting on the new rail section, the drivers side rail still on the car is even more of a basket case as far as profile than the passenger cut away.

Anyhow, let’s see how I fair with this Frankensteinian graft in the weeks to come.

Cheers

John

Well John its good to see you making progress.

Indulge me but are these rails going to be attached to the cradle you made, extra to the cradle or is this a modification?

Im a bit slow but very interested :-)

Hi Jeff

Replacements for the originals tied across the tunnel by the original reinforced gear box mount brace which have chassis bolt points now

cheers

So you go to crank up the mig after 18 months and it’s cactus !

So off to the store and its like the Gods are looking after you

Bossweld reduced from $650 to $270, happy days, and this thing welds effortlessly

So on with it, first rail front profiling done, later an inner and outer contoured reinforcement plate will be added to finish it off

cheers

John

John,

she's going to be very ridged, but do you have an estimate of the final weight of your BMW light truck?

Thanks for the lead AndBit, will look into it but weight isn’t my concern as with the AMG V6 this thing will hopefully one day be pushing around 300kW and 500Nm through that T56 6 speed

im after the driving experience not a track or drag car
