Should be comfy too.

Jeff

LMAO

Yeah Nigger, get you some of that to go with your girls booty !

Seats arrived today and hell yes they are ultra comfortable !

Looks like they have B[_]M warmers and full electric adjustment via togle switches on each side

Problem is they also have side airbags so they will need to go.

Will sit them in the car on Saturday but looks like mounting will be simple, damn Germans God bless them LOL

Flash.

My fat bum would fit in those haha.

Jeff

Jeff mine aint exactly svelt either !

But the pics dont do them justice, the side bolsters are a lot more prominent than the pics show and what I like about them most is that the shape bar the head rests are very in keeping with the original Zed seats, just a more contemporary look.

Soooooooooooooo

Been a very busy past few weeks with work and associated travel, so the Zed took a break from me.

The seats I purchased are everything I wanted accept for the fact that they are around 5 c's wider at the base, and horror shock (not really) they didn’t want to nest in the car.

Much contemplation, thought, waking up in a cold sweats, and finally I took to the floor with a 1mm cutting disc and removed a good meter by 650 section of the tunnel and floor.

Why you ask, well a few reasons that I had concluded during the past 2 odd weeks.

Ø  I needed more room to mount the seats.

Ø  The cat converter hump was to tedious to section and rework

Ø  The floor did have a few pinhole sized rust spots

Ø  By adding a new pan in thicker gauge between the rails, I would strengthen what is probably the weakest section of the car.

So, much CAD (cardboard aided design) work later, I came up with this new 3D mock-up which will be fabricated by a sheet metal shop in 14 gauge and then will slip into the new Flintstone’s void I created and weld into place.

I know, madness, but point out one thing I have done that wouldn’t have me committed to a psychiatric ward by any purist S30 lover.

Cheers

John

Looks good John. It's always hard to make the first cut, isn't it? Getting it made by a sheet shop will speed the process up quite a bit. Nice.

A few steps back to start going forward again, but still progressing.

I'm confused mate. I thought the reason you were building this external frame was so that you could remove and return to stock should the need ever arise from you or a future owner. Now your modifying what's probably the hardest section of sheet metal to return/replicate (short of welding one in from a donor). I'm all for modifying cars (look at my projects and you won't see any purist jobs). But not sure why you've added so much weight with a bolt in frame (which will be fast less rigid then stiching it in), in the search of a undoable solution, only to go and do this.

Not trying to be negative or critical (haven't even worked on my own project for almost a year), just trying to make sure you think the bolt in frame through. Never to late to lighten it and make it more permanent.

P.s. where does the exhaust now fit in that tunnel? You going side pipes or will it fit under the drive shaft?

The floor pan, yes its a departure from its originality, but not a deal breaker.

As for the bolt in chassis, all 50 odd kg's of it, well let me explain my fuzzy logic by first comparing the original performance and anticipated performance.

260Z L6            162 bhp            and       152 lb. ft. torque

C32 V6             354 bhp            and       332 lb. ft. torque

And the C32 figures should increase with the MoTeC upgrade, exhuast system, Super Charger and Intercooler mods to around

390 bhp            and       365 lb. ft torque

I’m looking at approximately an extra 80 – 100 kg’s in weight and this isn’t a track car or drag car it’s going to be a tourer so honestly I think I’m going to end up with a fairly well performing car with a drivetrain that won’t be relying on 50 year old Japanese metal made from recycled Fosters cans from the 1970’s

Didn't take any of your points the wrong way, just wanted to explain the way I see the end product.

Cheers

Ok. Carry on. Don't want to stitch it in instead of just bolting it in? Unless you can create bolted joints in all planes at each connection they are never going to be a rigid connection (possibility for movement if in one plane).

20 bolt points Gravice, all of which incorporate HT bolts and crush tubes.

Shouldn't be that much of an issue as the box is well forward meaning that where the new tunnel flanges out to start forming the new bell housing shape is where the rear of the box actually ends, both pipes should be able to run side by side below the tail shaft tucked in to the lower section of the tunnel.

You've been watching too much Project Binky John

Look forward to your next update.

Well considering I was the one who alerted the forum to the Binky build originally and was following it before everyone on here I guess I have had the bug for a long time LMAO

If we keep the above admission by the builder himself then this project starts to make sense  ;D  I'm just going to observe from now on, there is a lesson here somewhere lol.

A lesson to be learnt indeed, I just havent figured it out yet either ;)

I was going to say the same thing as Garvice.

It doesn't matter anyway as it's your car.

And it's coming along nicely!

Thanks Simon,

I really take that as a compliment.

Cheers Mate ;)

Small but tedious preparation for the new tunnel which Westy's in Ferntree Gully are fabricating and will be ready for pick up this coming Thursday.

Today was taken up with removing the 2 seat mount reinforcements on each side of the car, tedious to say the least but mission accomplished.

I sat a flat board over the cavity so as I could sit the drivers seat in place just to judge how it will all come together and so far looks the part.

Next weekend, tunnel goes in followed by new seat rails which will go from each sill panel inward to the the upward sweep of the tunnel.

Cheers

Any chance of rolling some ribs into those transmission panels John? As you know dead flat panels will add little strength and will tend to resonate causing noise.

Hi Richard

Actually asked them if they could but surprisingly they said they don't do it.

Will be adding a frame arrangement for each seat that will weld into each side and will tie up the sills, floor sections and wall upright panels so that should strengthen and also negate any resonance issues by sectioning the assy.

Cheers
