reverendzed Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Great work John, the detail is what will make this build something real special, well done. Rev. Quote
Sirpent Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks REV, Im sitting here doing NUDDA anyway, and I figure when the time comes I will have 2 options if I dont do this now, do it then and hold things up even longer or just dump it all back in and then hate myself for cutting corners, One thing Im doing is keeping an account of all of this in pics, that way when i insure it and something happens, the photos are there to prove whats the cars worth. Cheers John P.S. Hope you find a Z soon Dave, Im sure there is one waiting for that special attention you are sure to give it. Quote
KatoKid Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I had the same advice on emissions, only thing they said they would like to see is Cats and even they were a nice to have not a must have. +1 for the photos! Quote
Sirpent Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 UPDATE Had to ring the States this morning and talk to the shipping agent, screw balls wanted to make me package the motor and trans in a FIRE PROOF container ! Did some homework first just in case Customs or Quarantine services had pulled some fast one in the way of a new ruling, and ended up producing a PFD of the conditions of importation for auto parts which I emailed the agent. After 45 odd minutes on the phone, I finally got the msg through. So all that needs to happen now is for it to be picked up from the supplier (who has promised me pics of the cleaned gear which I will post as soon as I get them) pay the agent US $1058.00 and wait for the knock at my door, yep they are delivering to my door step. I have posted the PDF I produced should someone else be thinking about importing parts and highlighted the relevent requirements. Cheers John 21364_b78cc1714b5a254cd705a4cc0d1703049a955a7d.pdf Quote
benny Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 hey mate, is your package going air or sea?? also i noticed you have some very minor surface rust on bits (pulleys, nuts eg.) is this ok with customs?? Cheers Quote

PeterAllen Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 ...So now we have an M3 and and AMG powered cars, just wondering ,, has anybody stuck a Ferrari motor into a 240z? ...Adam Sorry I'm just getting up to speed on this thread, but "yes" someone has, here in Oz and a V12 too. Don't ask for details as I can say no more. John - Have you obtained a quotation for your engineering approval, if not it might be wise to do so. One gingerbeer quoted me $6k just for the brake testing, needless to say he is not the one I signed up with. Also, once you sign up they give you a number and you only have to meet the standards at the time the number was allocated. Quote

Sirpent Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Update Hi Crew Just an update, exciting for me, and I appreciate it probably wont be to everyone, but my supplier agreed to drain the engine and trans and give them the once over as far as cleaning them up before packing, I have managed to find a supplier in his area who will sell me a Plastic Shipping pallet good for about 2000 lbs of weight so as when it arrives here I wont have Australian Quarantine service breaking my proverbials over an infested wooden pallet. I asked the supplier to take pics of the gear before final packing so as I had something documented in case they still found some reason to drain any additional fee's out of me, and he sent the pics just now, I'm chuffed at the cleaning effort, now I can really see what I'm buying and I'm prettttttttttttttty happy Hope you all don't mind me sharing. Cheers John Quote

Sirpent Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Thanks Simon Simon Rev and Bro, I just cant wait to see this thing in the flesh and start some serious measurements before block and tackling it into the bay, think that will be the defining moment for me. There are 2 things I love seeing in the pics, the dual plugs per cylinder (In case no one noticed, this thing runs 12 plugs) and those AMG rocker covers. Quote
chris240 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Im glad your going with a plastic pallet instead of timber...I had serious major dramas before x-mas when customs quarnatined some construction items on a job I was organising..they picked up mould on the timber blocking which was used for securing the load..took 6 weeks to receive the shipment from when the boat docked. It still gives me nightmares, as the entire project got delayed... keep up the good work, I just love the name AMG...it conjures up class. Quote
peter t Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 This thing is going to be faster than a snake in the grass. Quote
