Administrators gav240z Posted October 17, 2016 Author Administrators Posted October 17, 2016 It looks like a decent straight car from the photos, but photos hide a lot of problems too! I would either fly up and look at it, or ask someone here to take a look for you who knows the cars well. You might be able to get the owner to drop it at a workshop that can go over it for you and find any faults. Quote
CroS13 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) I reckon it is to expensive at the start price. Who ever is looking at this one, make sure it is not the one that has rolled over in its time. It seems very familiar to the one i have inspected . If it is then i would stay away as repairs were not done properly. Also have a look inside the nooks, the welding is shocking with 90 degree steel angles used to for repairs. I may be wrong and it could be a completely different car. ummm im 99.999% sure that this car was restored by Mark..... So it would have been done properly. If i recall from following it on facebook, it was a customers car, he either ran out of money or didn't want to complete it, because i remember Mark letting it go unfinished...... Here we go.... I just looked at the facebook link that was in the ebay ad. Some lad's build, his cover photo of the car is from Marks Workshop, look you can see Lucinda and Oscar in the background. Now go back to the Ebay ad, look at the car, shell is fresh painted white with rusted ratty old panels bolted onto it, old doors, fenders, hood and hatch. Its worth every penny BAM! 44014 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Its a nice car, But interior is hideous, Engine is powerful but just not cool or right. The wheels are bad.. I guess if we all made the same cars it would be pretty boring Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 20, 2016 Author Administrators Posted October 20, 2016 If the body is sound and you can live with the engine swap it's not a bad buy really. I'd definitely do something about the interior however. Quote
specialp3 Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I agree with Gav. Even if it cost $7000.00 to bring the interior back to original you have a good car for $40K. This car is a bargain in the current market. The recent 240z that sold for $8000.00 will cost the new owner at least $100K if the car is to be restored safely and to a high standard. Unless of course the new owner is a master of all trades in the automotive industry. With the engine "not being cool" it does come from a zed. Much cooler than a swap from another manufacturer I think. shime 1 Quote

I bought the car do use for club runs but have other projects on the go. The car is 95% complete and wouldn't take much to get back on the road. The body is in great shape for the age and is really good for rust, there is a bit in the front nose cone section, it does have a couple of dints in the rear quarter but wouldn't take much to fix. All the badges and chrome work are still in reasonably good condition. The interior is in great shape for the age and is very original, the seats have no splits in them and all the vinyl is in good condition. The only blemish is the dash has some cracks which is standard for the age. The car even retains the factory a/c which is still all intact. I have not had the chance to get the car going but it is the original match on numbers engine. I will post more photos over the weekend, I am open to sensible offers as this car requires minimal work to make a good cruiser. Quote

shime Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 The other modded one in the ACT also appeals to me, aside from its interior. Two different takes, cant help but think the ACT car might be a lot easier to live with. Quote

With the arrival of my second child and the realisation that I never drive this thing - or likely won't frequently enough with it being 2 seats - I think it's time to pass it on to someone who can appreciate it more. It's a unique car and has probably driven 1000k in the two years I've had it. Never lost a beat and to my amazement still starts fine even if sitting for 3 months or so. It's had two owners until 2013, and I'm very lucky to have all receipts/rego papers pertaining to this. The second owner repainted it in around 2004 (have photos of paint prep) and brought it back to life, and pretty much rebuilt everything on it. The paint is a variation of the original colour with an added pearlescent (I have colour code in paperwork) The brakes are amazing and the clock even works. It's a matching numbers engine and is an auto - which should indicate it's never been flogged. It also has a Sunroof. I've seen a lot of sunroof designs and this is by far the neatest install. It works well and is very functional. It has 240z carbs. The only negatives that I know of is the passenger door needs a repaint (2nd owner used to put it in car shows and someone lent on it and scratched it with this belt) and the sun roof has a rust bubble. This can be removed and repainted easily. I keep it garaged and don't drive it if there is a slightest hint of rain around. The car is on club rego so I'm guessing not transferable. It's located in Strathpine Qld. Will attach more photos later. Feel free to contact to arrange a viewing." Quote

ScottyD Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) Red 1971 240Z on carsales from VIC $96,500 ...YES ...$96,500 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/_/SSE-AD-4344650?WT.seg_4=AutoAlert;PCAA Full Rotisserie Rebuild to complete original specification, and is a car within the first 600 cars built in 1971 (Chassis Number HS-30 00561). Every single nut, bolt and washer has been re-plated, and every single part of this car completely restored to way better than new. The car has matching engine and chassis numbers, as the existing engine was completely rebuilt on the original block, head, camshaft, pistons and crankshaft. The car was off the road for many, many years, and so has genuine mileage of 36,819. I have two sets of the original wheels and hubcaps (also in as new condition), and I swap these around from time to time. The car was quite well-known in it's former life. and is amongst 3 of these cars that I have ( I also have chassis number HS-30 00621 and one other), the other two being rebuilt at present. I have decided to let one car go, as the second is almost ready. Edited October 25, 2016 by ScottyD richard260, shime and gav240z 3 Quote
