I think this 73 on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-240Z-/191678879773

Is the same as the car that went to auction recently via Girard.

http://www.girardbid.com/servlet/List.do?auctionId=320&lotId=80&page=info

Same colour, description etc..

Price it sold for was $8,500 USD - only a month or 2 ago.

Wonder why it's up for sale again so soon?

The use of exactly the same descripton immediately made me suspect it is a scam.

However the photos are different so I discounted that.

Maybe now that the purchaser has had a decent look at the work really required they, or the significant other, have had a change of heart ?

It is rather expensive locklock - I guess you will have to be satisfied with just your 2 Z cars.  8)

The ad says that the car has 10 inch wide rear rims with "Custom made aluminium body fenders with flare screws ( original body untouched )" - that does not sound possible.

Is that price correct? About 600 AUD? I would have thought you would need to add another 0 ?

It is an empty shell though.. Probably terminal rust judging by firewall.

And it looks like it is in Gav's fav colour

I like all the early colours. Hard to pick an absolute favourite. I am very partial to Blue on Blue combo but I've never seen an AU delivered 240z in that colour combo.

Would love to know if we got any in that trim combo.

I like Safari Gold a lot because it reflects the Zeitgeist of the time. Porsche had Bahama Yellow which was similar and our local cars like E38 Chrysler Charger in Hot Mustard.

I still recall seeing the colour on cars in Australia into the 90s and hating it, but I think that's why I like it so much now. It has gone from in vogue to uncool and back around again.

It's also tricky with regard to getting it road registered if it has been de-plated. I should imagine the 'cheap' asking price reflects this fact.

It will be very likely that the only way of getting a Japanese 'title' for it is to restore it to roadworthy condition, and then get it inspected. Chicken and egg.

Could this be a genuine HS30-H for sale? HS30-10418

http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u82959289

Several items check out, 1 the body colour on the interior is correct, it's chassis plate shows an L24. Rear bumper is blacked out (Urethane?), it's a 71 model (first year of the 240ZG), it's prefixed HS30 to indicate L24 motor and it's of course RHD - There's quite a few HLS30s running around that have been mocked up to look like a ZG.

Chassis number isn't too far from my 72 240z (134 cars apart) - which means it's a late 71 build date at a guess. Has anyone here got a closer chassis number to this car?

What is interesting to note and Alan (HS30-H) has mentioned this before is that the missing engine isn't really much of a problem from a 'matching numbers' perspective because well... there's no engine number on the ID plate that you see in export markets.

So any old L24 within a certain number sequence (that indicates 1971) would be fine for a collector I'm sure.

Current bid is: 1,457,000 yen but don't be surprised I saw a HS30-H shell sell for about that recently, this is much more complete. Although it's had the eyes picked off it unfortunately and the floor pan looks shot, which probably means more surprises in common spots.

If I wasn't already up to my eyeballs in S30z's and cars to fix, I'd love a project like this. These seems to be becoming less and less obtainable as prices rise. So this is a good way to get your foot in the door (if a genuine HS30-H is your thing).

Appears to be a genuine 'HS30-H' model Fairlady 240ZG, and the registration document shows the correct extra length and width values.

Rear bumper on genuine ZGs is painted steel, with an extra rubber strip joining the two outer rubbers on left and right. This one's just missing the centre rubber.

As can be seen, It's missing quite a few parts and shows signs of having been a heavily used and abused street racing car for some years (witness roll cage mounts and extra wide custom rear overfenders, for a start...) and probably had a pretty hot drivetrain in it that's been removed and put in something else.

It's getting harder to find good, clean and genuine ZGs these days. This car would make a good project, but I suspect it's likely hiding more abuse and a bit of rot. Roof looks quite daggy, so I wonder if it's been upside down or had something sitting on top of it at some time...?

Early S30z - Looks like it might be a Fairlady Z-L (has the Rally Clock) and a 2.0 litre L20A motor. 907 Green in colour. However it has the later center console and says build date is around December 1971 so might be right at the cut-over from 71 features to 72.

Current price: 1,502,000 yen

Buy it now is 4M Yen (at today's rate that's ~46,000 AUD $)

Not a car for sale, but another international magazine article. This time in Classic and Sports Car, October edition. 240, 260, and 280zx featured over 5 or 6 pages. It seems nearly ever few months these days there is a new high profile article out about our zed cars. I also notice more and more ads are appearing for 240's in top shelf classic car mags like C&SC and Octane.

Two cars in one? Park it one way and it says classic owner, park it the other and instant boy racer...

It's all in them wheels

It is amazing what a set of wheels can do, personally I'd love to rock the original TOPY steelies with white wall tyre's or a set of blacked out 15" Watanabe's against 907 green = winning!
