Well, it's time to sell my baby.  I am moving to a house with much less garage space and it is time for this car to pass on to it's next guardian.  This vehicle has quite a bit of history.  In 1991 it appeared on the cover of "Z Car: A Legend In Its Own Time".  A book by Ben Millspaugh.  After appearing on the cover, it was purchased by former Texas Land Commissoner Jerry Patterson.  I purchased the car from Mr. Patterson in 1999 and it underwent a total restoration in 2002.  The restoration was done by Awesome Z in Houston.  In 2006 this car won the highest award available to a Z Car.  It won the Gold Cup at the 19th International Z Car Convention in Dallas Texas.  A car must receive at least 290 of 300 points in the judged show to receive the Gold Cup.  At the time, it was only the seventh car to receive the Gold Cup in 19 years.  The engine is the original motor that came in this car.  The body color is Toyota "Absolutely Red".  The odometer is indicating 73,519 miles but I have no idea if it has rolled over.  I am very serious about selling this car and because of that, I have set the reserve price to what I feel is well below it's worth.  I have put a lot of money and time into this car.  Many parts have been replaced with new.  I have a folder with lots of receipts.  Some going back to 1983.  The following is just a partial list of items replaced or work done.  Most of the work was done in 2002 by Awesome Z.

Custom Paint

Engine rebuilt

New Z Therapy Carburetors

New R134A AC System

New Door Panels

New brakes

New Exhaust System

New suspension

Cermachromed Headers Installed

Chrome Nissan 2400 Valve Cover

Bumpers re-chromed

Seats recovered in Leather

Brand New Full dash installed (Expensive)

Falken Tires and Koenig Wheels have about 4,000 miles

New Windshield

Lots of engine components have been polished or chromed

K&N Air Filters

All New Seals and Weatherstripping

Extremely hard to find Splash Pan

Hard to find New Fuse Box w/Tool

MSD Ignition

This car is a blast to drive and it definitely gets the attention.  I love it when a person driving a $200,000 car is breaking their neck to look at my 240Z as we go by.

PROBLEMS AREAS

This car was restored in 2002 and it still looks great but every car has some problems and I will try to list all I know about.  There are a few small rock chips in the paint.  This car like most 240Zs is cold natured and takes time to properly warm up.  Of course, the clock does not work.  The rear hatch seal needs to be replaced or fixed.  A portion of the top of the seal keeps bending over.  I have included a close up of this in the pictures.  I think there is a short in the bright light switch.  Sometimes when you turn on the brights, the lights go out.  Just click the brights again and the lights come back.  The hatch does not lock.  I removed the bulb from the interior light near the headliner because it would not go out when the door was shut. One of the dash lights in the speedometer is out making it hard to read the speedometer at night.  The seals were not hardened when the engine was rebuilt so you do need to add a lead substitute when you fill the tank.

This car looks even better in person.  I encourage SERIOUS buyers to come see it.  Do not send me any low ball offers.  This is a quality car and it deserves a lot of interest.  A $500 deposit thru Paypal is required within 48 hours of auction end.  I will accept only cash or a bank to bank transfer as payment.  Payment must be received within 7 days of auction end.  Buyer is responsible to pick up or arrange shipping.  This car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this listing if it sells locally.  I will answer all questions and send specific photos requested.

I really hate those Konig rewinds, it's like they didnt know if they were copying a superlite or a watanabe so they did a bit of both.

I tend to agree they are not my favorite, but my own 72 car has Superlites and I'm not a huge fan of those either...It's a pretty neat example even if there is a couple of custom touches that don't float my boat. I noticed the 2400 Valve Cover, even though it's not correct for a 72 I like them ;).

I find it funny when you look at what popular parts are these days and generally it's not always what looks the best or give the best performance but is the rarest and will give the car the most kudos. Not that i am above this of course.

DATSUN 240 Z -1972 No. Serie HS3010755 Engine 2753 cc East African Safari Rally in 2003, 2005, 2007

20,000 - € 30,000

The 240 Z marks the apotheosis of the Japanese firm Datsun and global recognition. The brand shows in competition, its reference is the strength and endurance. Shekhar Mehta wins 5 times the Kenya Safari Rally for Datsun in 1973 with 240 Z. The model is like that of the famous gentleman-driver Kenyan. She participated 3 times the Safari Classic, one of the greatest trials and tougher in the world (in 2003, 2005, 2007) by ending each time, ie the preparation of the car. Indeed this preparation conducted in FARM Z, the official preparer Datsun Classic in England fell to € 110,000. The body was laid bare, reinforced by welding and fixing the roll cage. It has all the improvements and complete equipment as its successful reference shows, and more with a 2.8Litres engine increased to approximately 200hp. This is the perfect car to run Kenya and Morocco and also an excellent investment because the Z 240 is an icon of the Automobile in Japan. the car has not been used after the 2007 east African Safari property an excellent pilot, the -ci has not had time to make its plans: it is back on the road and completely revised to take the next start of the east African Safari in 2017. Driver: Dewji IMTAIZ. East African Safari Classic 2003 to 37 ° 2005-25 ° 2007-37 ° sheet FIA Logbook competition

Recent classic car auction at Duxford in the UK.  GBP21000 GBP  with auction premium seems pretty cheap to me.

Not long ago people were balking at that price, it's a LHD car though and that also seems to put a cap on prices (HLS30's).

A nice 72 240z here.

http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/55303-1972-240z/

Asking: $26,000.00

An appreciating classic priced below Hagerty price guide, this 1972 Datsun 240Z is considered the best of the model years. With a 10/71 production date, the car has a vertical rear window defroster without the deck lid vents. It has been in the possession of the current owner for 5 years.

This original matching numbers car (orange #918) has been meticulously maintained by its four previous owners and retains the period look of a classic Zcar and considered an excellent driver. Service records  from the three previous owners dates back to the late 70’s. It was resprayed in 1986 in the original color. The 2.4 L engine is original to the car with 123,505 actual miles. A 5-speed gear box was added by a previous owner and documented in the records. the car drives and pulls through the gears as it should. The car does not drip any oil or fluids and everything is tight. The engine is clean, but has not been pulled by the current owner to be completely detailed. The paint has some small chips on the front edge of the hood, a blemish from the removal of body-side molding on the passenger-side door and small glue mark from side molding on the passenger-side quarter panel. The imperfections are noted in the photographs. The car is rust-free and accident free.

The car has modest upgrades to improve comfort and drivability that were installed by the current and previous owners which include: updated air conditioning system, 3-row aluminum radiator, Mazda Miata seats, 4-piston calipers and electronic ignition. All of the original equipment (seats and radiator) have been retained for original value. All the rubber window gaskets are new. Chrome is excellent. It comes with the original owner’s warranty card, owners manual and tool kit. The original radio was replaced by a previous owner. The vehicle is currently garaged in Virginia Beach, VA, after arriving at a Miami, FL Datsun Dealership and spending 39 years in Florida. Since acquired in 2011 the current owner has added/replaced the following:

Fuel system:

  • SU carburetors rebuilt byTidewater Z Auto Service
  • Fuel tank cleaned/coated by Tidewater Z
  • Pertronix electronic ignition
  • NGK plugs
  • K&N air filter
  • Valve adjustment/valve cover gasket by Tidewater

Brakes:

- Upgraded 4-piston front brake calipers (Toyota   4x4)/ceramic pads

- New rear brake cylinders/shoes

Other:

  • Clutch slave cylinder
  • Upgraded wiring harness- headlight/parking light
  • Glove box
  • All the rubber/ weather stripping has been replaced

Purchased/not installed:

  • BRE front spoiler
  • Motorsport Front air dam
  • 240z alternator upgrade adapter
  • STAGG Struts and Vogtland lowering springs kit
  • Extra weather strip kit
  • NOS Rear bumper rubber trim (scratch on right rear-got it treat)

HLS30 11682

L24-015908

Looks like it just ended, buy it now was $24K USD which to me seemed very reasonable. There was a few details that were a little bit short cut looking but overall if you bought it with the intention of keeping it a while it would make a reasonable investment in my opinion.

As a side note it is interesting that it has the 2400 Valve cover, given that I believe HS30 000150 (Eng. No. L24-015253) would have been built around a similar timeframe (compare L24 no's.) to this car (perhaps even a little earlier) and yet, didn't have the 2400 cover.

You are looking at a rare Series 1 Datsun 240z manufactured in October 1970 (Titled as a 1971 in Virginia) that has been recently restored to almost new condition! Most of these earliest cars have long rusted away while this one was preserved in the dry California climate before restoration. Thousands of dollars and many, many, many hours were spent on the maintenance and restoration of this car. This is the NICEST 240z I have seen in a long time.

In 1970 the first boat load of 240Z's left the Datsun Factory in Hiratsuka, Japan bound for import to the United States. Nobody could have expected that this little Japanese two seater would radically change the idea of an affordable sports car forever. The designer, Yoshihiko Matsuo took design inspiration from the Ferrari GTO and Jaguar E-Type to create the cars gorgeous flowing body lines that would remain unchanged for almost 10 years.

This one has all the Series 1 features including vertical defroster grid, vents in the hatch rather than the B-Pillar, non-retractable seat belts, partially reclining seats, one-sided keys, speedometer that starts at 20 m.p.h., 2400 CC valve cover.

Lets start with a look all the way around this beauty.

This sold (or not) with 1 bid for the $27k starting price..

Makes you consider whether modifying a car to this extent adds or decreases value.

It had its appeal alright, at the end of the day it only takes 1 person to be interested. I think the problem with modified cars like that is you drastically narrow the scope of interested buyers with any customisation. It would be hard to build a similar car for that money. Still eBay auction ending doesn't always mean the deal is sealed.

Early 240z build date 3/70. Shame about the colour not being original. Originally looks like it was 918 Kalahari Tan.

HLS30-U 01955

6 days to go, bidding currently at US $16,100.00

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201565818749

Shame no L24 engine number is listed.

I have owned this early 1970 numbers matching Datsun 240Z, HLS30U01955 03/70 since 2002, in that time the car has under gone a complete rotisserie restoration. I have a new Z project in the planning stage so I need to move this one along to make room.
The odometer reads 58,000 miles, that could be 158,000 but I have no way of knowing for sure, the original engine may have be rebuilt at some time in the past 46 years as the compression is excellent and runs very well.
I completely refreshed the engine. The cylinder head was removed, cleaned and skimmed, all new gaskets, seals installed along with a new timing chain, water pump, thermostat, belts, hoses, sparkplugs and wires, cap/rotor, also a rebuilt Datsun gear reduction starter was installed.
The twin SU carburetors were sent to ZTherapy for rebuilding. Original distributor was rebuilt and a Pertonix
electronic ignition installed to replace the points, a rebuilt internally regulated 140 amp GM alternator was also installed.
The original radiator was rebuilt with 3 cores. The car was stripped down to the shell and rotisserie mounted to weld in the new Zeddfiding floor pans/ rails with BadDog rails welded over top for added strength, while everything was off the car all suspension/steering parts were cleaned down to bare metal and coated with POR15 paint. All bushings were replaced with OEM rubber including steering rack bushings, engine/transmission/differential mounts, all suspension bushings, tie rods, ball joints. Reinforced mounting plates were welded in to accommodate uprated sway bars but only the stock front sway bar is installed at the moment. I stripped many layers of paint off the car, sealed it and re painted with a Jaguar grey.
Old style bullet side mirrors were mounted and all stainless steel trim was buffed.

New KYB shocks with stock springs were installed, new wheel bearings front and back with new seals,
a complete new stock braking system including new master cylinder, stainless steel flex hoses, pads, shoes discs and drums also new rear wheel cylinders and front callipers.
The original 4 speed transmission was refreshed with new seals, bushings, new clutch kit, a new clutch master and slave cylinder were also installed. Drive shaft was rebuilt with new U joints.
The gas tank was sandblasted, boiled, sealed and painted, a new tank sending unit was installed.
The wiring harness was removed, unwrapped, cleaned and restored with new connectors were needed,
a new fuse box was also installed.
From the collectors back is a  2.25” stainless steel exhaust system with a SS Ractive exhaust, sounds great!
The wheels are restored vintage Appliance basket weaves, 15” x 7”, the tires are Bridgestone Potenza 215/60 . There is one hub cap missing, I have  two hub cap services looking for a replacement.
The bumpers were re chromed with new rubber trim added.
All glass is original except for the front windshield that was replaced with new,  the tint is 3M 30%  film and can be peeled off if not wanted. 95% of glass seals and weather stripping is new, the quarter window seals weren't available at the time of restoration but they are in good shape otherwise. The dash is 100% perfect as it was one of the last new dashes to be sold by Nissan in the 90’s. The heater box was completely restored with new heater valve, hoses, foams and seals.
The interior of the car was coated with Lizard Skin type heat/sound deadening, then Murder Mat sound deadening, then 1/2” thick underlay insulation. A new MSA diamond hatched vinyl interior kit was installed,
new door panels and carpet kit also. The original seats were re upholstered about 10 years ago and are in good shape. The car comes with an Alpine sound system installed as well as new seat belts.
The original unreliable clock has a battery operated digital clock installed behind the the original face plate.

Is it rabbit season or has the recent increase in early 240z values in the North American market encouraged a few people to list their early 240z's lately? I dunno... It seems quite a few listed. Let's start with the best and work our way down ;).

The first is located in Dubai. It looks like it has had quite a bit of work done to it and is fairly original.

This car looks like the former Victoria British Queen of the cover car. Perhaps it's trying to re-live it's glory days, but the old makeover is looking a bit tired.

I'd be happy if I never saw seats like that in a 240z again ;).

EXPORT, NO PROBLEM...

ATTENTION COLLECTORS!! VIN # 0064!!! Yes, The 64th Z imported to the U.S.

I am a Z collector and will be offering some of my more rare and sought after cars for sale in the coming weeks...

This is a Super Rare, Original Ultra-Low Vin Series 1 240Z in extremely nice, low mile condition. Classic Series 1 Z car has been amazingly well preserved and nicely restored. This is a very collectible early Z... Z cars with this low vin and these period correct features are extremely rare, especially in this condition. This car was stored for many years and restored to daily driver condition by previous owner... it is not a concours restoration or museum piece but could easily be taken there... it is a very nice driver quality car! Miles are original per owner but are NOT documented!! The car looks, runs, feels great and is ready to roll. You just dont find them like this...completely original with matching numbers... collector quality car with values quickly rising. Excellent weekend cruiser or addition to any collection... daily driver if you like while it increases in value... :)

Body is straight with no rust or collision damage that I can see. Recent refresh and nice quality restoration on an already excellent original condition car. Good driver quality repaint in original Datsun 907 dark green presents beautifully with some minor blemishes. Underside is quite clean. Seams and rubbers are good and the body, trim, moldings etc are well in tact. Has true Panasport Rims currently because I love the look on the green cars but I have Correct factory slotted mag rims and steel rims as well.

Interior is very nice as well. Seats, Panels, Carpet, and headliner all look great... I have the proper oem replacment material for the rear shock towers... dash has only a couple of minor cracks.... Gauges and electronics work properly except the clock (of course)!! Original Am/Fm and power antenna.

Matching numbers L24 Motor starts, runs, and idles excellent... 4 Speed trans shifts smooth through the gears. Suspension feels tight and handles excellent. Brakes are good... Stops straight and sure. Nice driver.

Overall this is a very rare little classic Z in fantastic original condition all around... it is well preserved and restored. Awesome weekend cruiser, potential show car, or addition to any collection. I am a Z collector... this is a great one for any Z car enthusiast, collector, or anyone looking for a cool, original vintage sports car at a great price.

The car is located in Beverly Hills... Inspections are welcome and encouraged... serious buyers can call me at 310 850 8980 but no tire kickers please. I'm open to interesting trades (in accordance with ebay guidelines) but no projects or junk please.

IMPORTANT:

I have tried to describe this vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible but please remember it is a used vehicle. Z432 early type that is characteristic heat plate of comes with properly. k3 head are either cracked, I think that cracks in the near future. It was found that there is a crack for the first time head my Z432 also overhaul. k4 head is what has been looking for something free from cracks from GTR of the engine. Magnesium wheels, we have buy one that went neatly engraved. Semi-restored vehicles (k4 purchase cost of the head and magnesium wheel is not included, 7 million yen or more, we took to the semi restore.).

Engine K4 head. Full counter, strengthening spring, parts that can be enhanced, such as strengthening the piston has been kept strengthening goods as may be said that almost all. Exhaust the amount of thought and the durability of the engine has been kept remains of 2L. Engine has just overhauled, there invoice (I think it was about 3.5 million yen does not include the purchase cost of just k4 head engine).

Other, question please. We will answer in the range to understand. There is no intention of selling too much, but do not want extreme highs. Thank you carefully to those who can and maintenance. Will determined the purchase of new other cars, it has sent I think that if the thing.

(May 29 day 16 hour 43 minute addition 2016)

Your presentation of the high price is the welcome, but traded in a prompt decision price in the auction outside because it becomes a rule violation, I do not do during the exhibition. Whether you bid in an auction, the auction will be from the end without being successful bid.

(2016 May 29 day 17 hour 50 minute addition)

will be allowed to write that was found in the semi-restoration of Gakari one year. Original color would have been a silver. Painting of the exterior of white again in white peel off once, it has been painted. Wheel arch and its surroundings to have rust, cut, was welding a new iron plate. Radiator core support for the year type is not available, but we have molded the shape things of late type in the previous fiscal year type, in a vehicle that almost all of the part to say that full restoration is composed of a late type of parts There is none. The other is large from the original do not think I have changed. Mission has also been overhauled, but there are times when entering the gear is cool sometimes. Def overhaul, is just to the vehicle height adjustment type of shock is also new. Def is also original. Engine has just overhauled. It is not an overhaul mere S20 engine, for engine parts of s20 is low, it takes money for you as much as possible to focus on the durability of the engine reinforced component. Walk through the place on safety has been in good condition. Radio will operate only when wearing a light. I think that it is the relationship of the wiring. The other is a bad place, I do not know of an amateur. If you write or Once remembered something. (2016 May 29 day 18 hour 07 minute addition) it does not accept offers of at insane amount of highs from abroad. Please through the suppliers of Japan. Or joke of, that it can not determine whether serious is. (May 31 day 9 hour 07 minute addition 2016)
